You just gave me an awesome idea when making these boxes. I make quilts and what no better way to give the gift of your quilt that you made for someone then in a DIY storage box that you made from the same fabric design as you made the quilt in. I will be giving not only one gift but two at the same time.

Tip: Make an X from corrner to corner on your fabric square. Place your box on top. The corners will fall into line with the lines of your X. No need to mark a center you can't see, and then try to position the fabric and then draw more lines.(Works for squares and rectangles, alike.) Spray the bottom of your box with spray adhesive, before placing it in position at the X on the fabric- and the box will not move.

I did fabric boxes back in 2010 and I was looking for that tutorial. This one is way better. The technique is much more sophisticated and efficient, and you are so clear and precise in your description and live working example. Your video setup is so seamless and professional and appealing and covers all angles necessary. Excellent coverage and editing, girl! Your method is so much easier from the other videos I've watched, Jennifer. I was thinking that if we draw a line corner to corner and from side to side in both directions it might help speed up finding the center point. Mark the center on all four sides of the box as well and match them to the lines on the fabric. Thanks for the video. Excellent demo!!!

Jennifer you could press all your sides BEFORE you do any spraying. I would also press the top edge of the fabric too. (The piece that goes inside of the box.) so it will have a finished look on the inside. Or you could take and press the edges in, then use fabric glue on the edges then press again to seal it. Then take to work center and use the adhesive spray to finish putting it together. Happy Sewing

This was a great video and I like the method used as a simple one for solid or non-directional print fabrics, but my OCD self just couldn't be happy with using a directional fabric. I think I would go with more of an L shape pattern, with the sides in a long row and the bottom underneath one of the sides, instead of the + shape pattern in this video. This would make the print face up on all 4 sides. The print would also continue around the sides seamlessly until you got around to the final corner. Or I would do the bottom separately from the sides with a non-directional fabric; perhaps matched to the lid. That way I don't have to notice the pattern always going the wrong way no matter what you do. I would also try to pick a pattern small enough to go with the size of the box. I feel like the towers on this fabric are a bit big for the size of the box, but that fabric would look really nice on a box that's just a little bit larger.
@ShabbyFabrics6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching. Yes, if you're using a directional fabric and want it to be the same, it will take some care to figure out how to piece the bottom - like you said, we think you'd have to do that piece separately. Using non-directional fabrics and smaller prints will always yield an adorable box! If you make some, let us know, and send us a picture, we'd like to see it! :)

Very nicely done, very professional. I wonder about that center placement. Would it work to lightly crease the fabric when you fold it to find the center? Then couldn't you line up the corners of the box on the "X"? Wouldn't that put it right in the center instead of trying to eyeball it?

My friend gave me a bottle of tacky glue to use. In your opinion, do you think the adhesive spray works better? Or do you think the tacky glue works just as well? Thanks in advance 😀
@ShabbyFabrics4 жыл бұрын
Great question! If you feel like your glue works well for you then you may continue using yours. However, the glue that Jen is using in the video works very well when it comes to how well it holds everything together. The spray adhesive provides a consistent layer but applying a thin layer of glue with a paintbrush probably works just as well. - Yajaira

Omg ! How would you go about wrapping a round box ?!
@ShabbyFabrics4 жыл бұрын
Hi Brenda! Thank you for watching! Unfortunately we have not done this with a round box so there may have to be some adjustments made to accommodate the shape! Stay safe and happy sewing! ~Leah

what is the spray adhesive you use? I have 3M craft mount permanent adhesive and it doesn't stick fabric at all
@ShabbyFabrics8 жыл бұрын
+Denise Killen we used Scotch Multipurpose Adhesive Spray. Here is a link to the product at Michael's for reference but it can be found at other crafting stores, too: www.michaels.com/scotch-super-77-multipurpose-spray-adhesive/10218960.html

Have you ever thought about getting a round paperweight to put inside the box so it doesn’t move as easily? That’s what I do, it makes it so much easier to put some weight in the box.. Thanks for sharing your video! I was a little disappointed that you didn’t let us see your finished product. Bummer.😕

Thats a great suggestion. We will pass it along to our makers. -Kristen

How would I cover the whole box?
@ShabbyFabrics7 жыл бұрын
You would measure the interior to be covered and cut fabric to fit. Since we have not done that we can't really provide specific steps to complete it.

this is one direction fabric, how to make the pattern the same way??
@ShabbyFabrics6 жыл бұрын
The way we do it with one piece of fabric will make directional fabrics difficult to work with. This would work really well with fabrics that aren't directional. We haven't made these boxes again, but you could probably use two pieces to make sure the fabric is all running the same direction. - Morgan
