Yes, it is really scary. I moved into my home just before covid hit. When I viewed the house I knew I wanted to divide the through lounge into a cosy lounge room and knock down the wall between the dining end and the kitchen. I am a lady on my own in my late 60s. I went through a succession of builders/quotes until I found one that I felt comfortable with and listened to what I said. Just finished the new kitchen diner and it's amazing. Wasn't as bad as I was imagining before it got going. Like you, I am very DIY minded so I know how things should be done and that's where I think your apprehension comes from, you will expect things to be done properly and you will know when they are not, so very important that you find tradespeople who know that they can't get away with less than what you would expect. I also think it's good to live in your new home a while before making any major decisions, then you will know what works for you. Hope all goes well and enjoy you lovely home.

Halfway through renovating a house myself and I've learned so much from where I started My tips would be 1) remember you will undoubtedly make some mistakes but at some point you just need to go for it. And you can always redo bits if a room doesn't turn out exactly how you thought it would after a big refurb, you can do your own mini DIYs to tweak it in future and inject more of your personality 2) take your time getting quotes and picking a tradesperson. Earlier on we settled for ones that were unreliable and didn't really do their best work because we wanted it done and we assumed that's what they were all like round here, but it caused so much headache and money in the longer run. We've just had the BEST experience getting our bathroom redone, it's so worth taking your time until you find someone you really trust 3) don't be afraid to do exactly what you want and what speaks to you. We've got quite a neutral downstairs but my absolute favourite rooms are upstairs where there's a lot of colour because that's my personality 4) don't get disheartened with the amount of work to do and take time to step back, look at your before pics and reflect on how far you've come. There's so much still to do with my house but it's insane how much better it looks already And have fun! I absolutely love your channel, I've picked up little DIY tips and just a bit of courage to give things a go from you so thank you for the content 😘

We're on our second renovation now and having lived through quite a bit of major building work I would say it's completely worth getting your living room finished as you want it to be long term before you start the big building projects. That way you have somewhere to hide from the chaos! I'd say the cost of painting that room will repay you in sanity and calm :)

I have been in my new house a month. I’m like you, very overwhelmed because it’s a large 3 bedroom house with 2 garages. I’m in my 30s and doing it alone so I’m terrified of making a bad decision. But the first thing I did was get workmen in for a temp renovation, I have a ver demanding full time job so couldn’t DIY. Strip and paint walls, change flooring and do the bathroom and toilet. Everyone has told me it’s a waste of money because I’m saving for a huge reno/ extension but I don’t know when that’s going to happen and I want to be comfortable now. You don’t know what the future holds so don’t put off feeling happy and comfortable in your home now. Your home is always going to be a never ending project anyway 😂 I can’t wait to finally try some DIY and follow your tutorials.

Loved seeing all of the organisation in the kitchen. We have the glass jars too for all of the dry ingredients but need more for cereals etc. I really want to get more trays for cupboard and fridge organisation. In terms of next project, I’d love to see what you do with your airing cupboard, ours is a disaster, we moved in here almost three years ago and I remember telling my hubby that I wanted to add more shelves in the hallway cupboard to make the storage of towels and bedding easier and we still haven’t done it and there is so much wasted space in there 😅

AH omg on the “do we spend a bit freshening up the place” here and there I HEAR YOU! I think it has to be a balance but if it helps… what we’ve done is do the core rooms that won’t change when we do the big reno i.e bedrooms & office (which still aren’t finished haha) and anything that’s gonna get knocked out maximum paint it xx

Why was my first thought ... Eggs ? where did you get the eggs, and can you link them below ? 🤣🤣🤣 I've not been able to get them here on my last 2 food shops loooool jokes aside, this was a really satisfying watch .. love under the sink 😍 I totally did take a second to stare, haaa, as for being overwhelmed .. if it was me, I would sit down and make a room by room list. What can be done to create temporary happiness in each space ? What is a priority ? If it is going to be more than 6 months to a year before walls come down, then I would absolutely paint the wall to make me feel happy until the big stuff. Even just painting out the fireplace ... a quick paint for an immediate happier cannot be a bad thing 😍 but when I'm overwhelmed, I totally make lists. lists and more lists. ❤️❤️❤️

Chill! I can tell you how I am tackling things that is working for me. The biggest job was the roof, which needed doing sooner than we thought when water started coming through the ceiling, so that was the priority (it's done now, he finished yesterday). The rest of the bigger jobs (utility conversion etc.) has to wait for now. Medium jobs like replacing the bannisters, I need to put that money towards things like getting floors done, so I've painted them. My main things I'm doing is painting the walls, changing out curtain poles, curtains and hold backs, and painting any of the dark wood where I can. Jobs that don't cost a fortune but really lift the room and makes it more homely. The rest can wait until we have the funds :)

Make a plan/list for each room you want to renovate. The rooms you plan to do the work yourself, take those projects on based on your budget, time, material, etc. The rooms you will contract out, those can be done when you have reached your savings/budget goals. I hope that makes sense.

We started by making over one room so we had a bit of a sanctuary. We redecorated our master bedroom so when things got a bit much we could escape to the bedroom and it wouldn’t feel like a reno 😂 I’d say just start. It will always seem scarier than you think it’ll be. Can’t wait to see how you get on 😁

We were planning on not spending anything on the kitchen area as that will have the biggest changes but we have decided to get a new floor and just jazz it up a bit as it will be a year or two before we can start knocking walls down etc. Make yourself feel at home! Okay Hun I made a list of all the things I was planning for the house. Which included taking down a wall, plastering and electrics, new kitchen, bathroom ensuite, doors, skirting, drive garden new boiler basically everything. First thing I concentrated on was plastering all the ceilings. Believe it or not that made a huge difference. It was extremely stressful living upstairs once the downstairs was demolished. But so satisfying ticking a job from the list. Brought the house in 2021 and hopefully will be done at the end of 2023. Learnt a lot from doing my previous house. But like your house nothing was done properly. Now I have a new house.

Things like paint, peel & stick wall paper, curtains with a bit of color or accents, area rugs and accent pillows with a dash of color and large paintings or a set of small colorful paintings are small ways to add character, style and comfort to any home and also changes the feel of a room as well on a smaller budget until you’re ready to tackle the larger projects. It all starts with a simple plan for the look or style you want to create and grow from there. Hope this is helpful. Can’t wait to see you get started. 😊

You’re so organised and have so much forethought: you’ll not go wrong. As many have already made suggestions, write things down room by room in two halves : long term changes vs minimal short term DIY ones. Make a spread sheet and compare costs. Finally: see how much the short term DIY ones cost and consume how much time. They will get you revenue in terms of content as well and keep us interested as you’re so handy, so take them up space by space or room by room. Needless to say they will make your immediate life meaningful and beautiful : so get on with just what you are doing so well, just work with the long term process in mind. Share your plan with us so we will keep thinking of tips! Happy DIYing!

The Karchers are amazing - I only use mine inside though. The widows cleaner does outside, as I can reach all the downstairs ones but the five upstairs ones are too far away And always, ALWAYS tart places up (as cheaply as you can) so it makes you feel good whilst waiting for the big stuff, otherwise it can be too depressing/dispiriting waiting whilst you get the cash together for the big stuff. Then it become difficult to get started on the big stuff! Paint etc doesn’t cost much, particularly if you do it yourself and can really keep your mood up whilst you’re saving for the big projects

You need to make your home comfortable to live in now, we’ve renovated 8 homes and always paint everything white while we work our way through the house. Start with all the biggies like electrics and plumbing, roofs and rendering everything else can be done over time. I remember sitting in the lounge of a 1930’s home we were renovating and the bookcase started to slide down the alcove wall. Only the carpet was keeping it from hitting the ground under the floor. Luckily we had a great builder friend who came round and helped us replace the woodworm eaten joists and floorboards, nothing much fazed us after that.

I can recommend the importance of making your living environment feel more like home asap! Yes this does cost £££ but you can then take your time to do the big stuff . For example, definately paint and concentrate on your front room/kitchen area - promise you'll be amazed how much more 'at home' you will feel and that can help to get rid of that flat feeling. It's not a waste I promise, and it may inspire you to feel less overwhelmed xxx

I don’t think there’s any harm (or money truly wasted) of making changes that might be temporary until future projects are ready to be done. It could be years so you may as well make your home feel like you, in the grand scheme of things paint is relatively inexpensive for the impact it can give on a space. Tbh I can’t wait for a loo make over to start 😂

Great storage bits., and lately I've seen so many u tubers and on tik tok using egg storage, saying it's for the fridge and so many comments saying u shouldn't / don't keep eggs in the fridge, I know in America u have to even supermarkets have eggs in the fridge because their eggs are washed in something that's why there so white and hens are given antibiotics and other stuff so they last longer. Saying that I never keep eggs in the fridge and I have a gorgeous egg storage container. Jaysus don't put food gloves in cupboards with cleaning materials . My son had put pots and pans under the sink with cleaning materials my other two adult children went mad.

Eggs can be kept out of the fridge in the uk. All chickens are vaccinated against salmonella and eggs have a natural coating which keeps them fresh(as long as you don’t wash them). Eggs need to be at room temperature to bake with etc.

One suggestion here. Why don't you make the utility room the official cleaning storage? Cause store bathroom stuff that u are using under the kitchen cabinet with the time can be not practical. And... later u can buy those natural tone baskets and organise what u actually are using at the time and grab new stuff from the utility room. Your house it's huge. Maybe is not necessary to leave all those stuff in there. Lov u 💓
