A shaft carrying a pulley and a gear at either ends is supported in two bearings 1m apart . Pulley and gear are located at 250mm and 350mm from the bearings at respective ends . The shaft transmits 20 kw at 150 rpm . Tangential force at gear acts in upwards direction . Pulley of diameter 1.25m drives another pulley below it . The raio tensions T1 / T2 is 2.5 . The gear and pulley weights 900N and 2700N respectively . Safe shear stress for the shaft is 65MPa . Neglecting weight of shaft , design the shaft diameter . Take shock and fatigue factor for bending and torsion as 2 & 1.5 respectively . 🙏🏻

sir what to do when it is not given gear is driven or driving but tangential force acts downwards is given so can we neglect radial force?

It depends on the direction of rotation... If tangential force acts in vertical downwards, the radial force will act in the horizontal direction...
