What a great honest reaction. You may have joined a very global group, much larger than people realize, who view Lara is the best performing artist of the last 30 years. More information on Lara Fabian: Lara is recognized as one of the best vocalist ever seen on earth and all professionals list her in the top vocalist tier with Barbra, Whitney, Mariah, Celine, Lisa Fischer, .... In my personal opinion, she is even the best. There are a few vocal characteristics that are her signature: her famous resonance for instance that allows her to sing acapella without mic in venues with 8,000 attendees. Her nickname in the singing world is "the ring" due to this. I would also list her amazing phrasing, breath management and her pleasant tone even when belting in her upper register. So she is one of the best vocalist ever, but on top of that, she adds a few things that make her an absolute package with no equivalence: • she speaks 4 languages fluently (french, italian, english, spanish) and has sung in 12 languages in total • she is an amazing songwriter and wrote lyrics for most her songs, in the 4 languages she speaks. She often co-composes the music with the composer. • she acts and performs on stage as nobody else, she colors and reveals the meaning of every single word in the songs, and her ability to emote, to draw you in is second to none • she is the sweetest soul on earth, very humble, down to earth and benevolent. She likes to meet others, and her fans are always pleasantly surprised when this happens. A quick background on her and her career: She is belgian, but also has italian roots (her mother is from sicilia). She was raised in both countries so she speaks both french and italian as native languages. She has been classically trained on vocal, piano and songs composition for 10 years ( from 8 to 18) in the Brussels Royal Conservatory. She is still having vocal lessons and training several times a week today. She started her career in Canada in the early 90s, more precisely in Quebec, the french-speaking part of Canada. She now lives in Montreal and has also Canadian citizenship She became very famous there and then conquered France in 1997 (she topped charts there and some of her songs such as "Je t'aime" or "Tout" became classics of the french music). In 2000, she was about to penetrate the US Market, with a lot of media initial interest. Her first english song (I will love again), a pop dance song, reached number one on the US Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart and number 32 on the Billboard Hot 100. Her Album ("Lara Fabian") was about to become a massive hit, and the concert "From Lara With Love" was recorded to be broadcasted everywhere in the US. This concert is legendary and the song you just reviewed is from this concert. But a dispute with Sony on artistry directions, and the will from Celine Dion's staff to block her progress in the US, completely broke this plan. She thus refocused back on Europe and made huge success there, extending her reach to Eastern Europe and Central Asia where she became an absolute superstar thru her collaboration with Igor Krutoy during several years. She is also a star in Brazil as her song "Love By Grace" used as the soundtrack for a very famous soap opera topped the charts for months. Many of her songs became classics and were covered by the other singing legends: Barbra Streisand, Shirley Bassey, Josh Groban, … With her success in Europe, Brazil and part of Asia, she is the inspiration of the new generation of vocalists: most of them are coming from there. Thru their covers of Lara Fabian songs, USA and many other countries are now rediscovering her. She is Dimash's idol: I’ve read somewhere that, when he was a child, he was listening her songs every night to get asleep. He covered many of her songs (that she performed originally ; she also wrote some of these). Out of my mind I can list: ○ Adagio, ○ Mademoiselle Hyde, ○ Know, ○ Love of tired swans She also wrote the lyrics of his song « Your Love ». And she covered « Love is like a dream » before him (song from Igor Krutoy originally performed by Alla Pugacheva). They also performed Ti Amo Cosi together with Aida Garafulina: this is a song that she performed originally with Dmitriy Hvorostovsky and Alina Yaroyava then again later with Dmitriy and Sumi Jo, before this new trio with Dimash and Aida. Dimash is now also working with Igor Krutoy who came back from retirement and composed severals songs for him. Many other top vocalists from the current generation covered her songs: ○ Floor Jansen (Adagio), ○ Polina Gagarina (Adagio, Je t’aime), ○ Diana Ankudinova (Tomorrow is a lie), ○ Morissette Amon (Broken Vow), ○ Gabriel Henrique (Love by Grace), ○ Cakra Khan (Broken Vow), ○ Katrina Velarde (Broken Vow), ○ Laura Bretan ( Adagio, Caruso), ○ Jackie Evancho (Je t’aime, Caruso and Broken Vow, BV rewritten as « Imaginer » by Lara for Jackie), ○ Giulia Falcone (Adagio, Caruso, Je suis malade), ○ Almira (from 4th Impact band) (Broken Vow), ○ Forestella (Je suis Malade), ○ .... Sorry if I was long, but I hope this gives some context on Lara.

“Je suis Malade” was written by famous French singer & songwriter Serge Lama together with composer/singer Alice Dona in 1973. This is based on his own experience and he was the original performer, hence some lyrics are a bit male-oriented (eg my mother leaves me, whiskies, I pour my blood in your body, …). When Serge Lama had a dinner with Alice Dona and told her about his obsessive love that was leading to a road block, she came back home and compose the music in a couple of hours. The morning after, she presented him the music and he wrote the lyrics in … 20 minutes. Serge Lama was the original performer in 1973, but a few months after, Dalida covered it and brought it to fame. She was an absolute mega star in France, another emotional powerhouse, and this song resonated very much with her own feelings. Her success with this song transformed it into a french classic, and started to make it famous abroad. But it is Lara Fabian that really made this song a very popular song in many countries with her cover in the mid 90s. At that time Dalida had already passed away, but Serge Lama was (and is) still alive. Dalida and Serge were two inspirations for Lara, so she sent an audio copy to Serge of her version. She was unknown at that time in France but he was so impressed with her vocal skills and her emotions rendering that he invited her in France to sing it as a duet. They became good friends. Lara has made some subtle changes to the song that gave it even more power and Serge Lama adopted these in his later interpretations. This 1999 version ("From Lara with Love" Concert in Montreal) is legendary internationally and has attracted many artists to do a cover, even from non french-speaking countries. The most recent one I am aware of is from the Korean band Forestella.

Thsi song was written by iconic French singer Serge Lama (who made a name for himself by also creating a musical about the Emperor Napoléon Bonaparte), and composed by Alice Dona, his former partner in life. It quickly became a hit and his most famous song, so much so that he can not perform without singing it at everyone of his gigs. Lara Fabian covered it the way we hear it here, and that probably was her best performance ever. She is a highly skilled singer, but her choice got her to work with poorly inspired producers and tour managers. This got her a reputation of a "superficial" singer, when all she ever wanted was to live her passion for singing. This moment shows how invested and focused she is, perhaps too deeply to have a good knowledge of what happens around her (my 2 cents analysis on what she has been through). Some day tough, she may well kick back and surprise everyone with her true and pure talent. I strongly recommend everyone to have a listen at the duet she performed with the late (Claude) Maurane during the 18th "Victoires de La Musique" (French awards for musicians and performers, in pop, classical, jazz). They paired to sing live "Tu Es Mon Autre" ( = "You are my other [one]" or "You are my alter ego"), and this probably was one of the greatest moment in the history of live pop music. One to remember indeed, and everyone in France and Belgium has a place in their hearts for this song.

Lara’s solo performance will never be equaled but now I will introduce you to a South Korea vocal harmony group called “ Forestella”They are a 4 male crossover harmony group from South Korea. When they performed their first song ( the Freddy Mercury classic“ Bohemian Rhapsody”) it catapulted them to international stardom and they now have millions of followers worldwide. They were all at one time solo performers. One has a very deep bass/baritone voice. Another, a high operatic voice, and the other two group members (who were also solo performers) combine to render a confluence of absolute total passion and when they performed “ je suis malade” live on stage in front of thousands of fans, it was like hearing 4 Lara fabians!! ( bring a box of Kleenex) Some of their other songs I recommend are Simon & Garfunkel classic “The Sound Of Silence”, Guardian “ Angel” that will lift your spirits and transport you to another world-especially during these troubled covid times. And the hauntingly beautiful “ hijo de la luna” But “ Le Suis” remains my all time favorite. I’ve watched it 5 times and each and every time it moves me to my depths. All love from Miami Beach , Florida, Al

I have lately taken a little tour in youtube and listened various so called stars from US. That's because i found a vocalist a little while ago who is absolutely great singing live. She comes from Holland and does a lot of covers. Whitney Houston, Lady Gaga, Bon Jovi, Christina Aguillera, Mariah Carey, Beyoncé etc. So i just had to listen all those stars and compare their live vocals with this dutch vocalist. And like i already suspected she was much better live than any of these stars. But after these few weeks "tour" of listening those big names singing live and performing on stages, i got back to listen some Lara...well it's not necessary to even say it out loud. It's like watching a master after spending time with some apprentice. Or watching Leonardo Da Vinci painting Mona Lisa after visiting a school of art. Like you said about this performance...it is ART. Everybody else is just singing, maybe have good vocals, but Lara Fabian makes ART! 😎

Four years ago, in a YT comment on Perdere L'Amore I asked, "Which other singer can I listen to who has as much class? Please tell me, I want to know!" It was a serious question . I was searching for a counterweight to stop me falling lhopelessly for one singer. I got no suggestions. I have since discovered some excellent singers, and some of their performances can make me cry, but I have so far found none that have approached the all-round perfection that is Lara. This does not even take into account her other positive qualities such as high intelligence and humanity. I have a playlist of others now, but still cannot pass a day without sipping from Lara's cup!

You must also listen to my second favorite singer Dan Vasc. He is also classically trained like Dimash and Lara but actually a metal singer. He sings metal fantastic but also opera. His most impressive is Gethsemane from Jesus Christ superstar. Its a phenomenal performance.

Lara has a fabulous voice. When she heard Dimash sing one of her songs, she was desperate to do a duet with him and eventually, she did. :)

Dimash is incredible but he is the one idolizing Lara since he is a child. She has been working with Igor Krutoy for 10 years before Igor started to compose for Dimash and the trio they made, Ti Amo Cosi, is a song written for her that she performed twice with other duets before Dimash and Aida. Don’t change facts please. Again Dimash is incredible.

Stan, almost all the regular people here know well Lara's and Dimash's story and yours has taken a bit of a liberty with the truth. You must have not been around long. You will catch up!

I'm a Dear and I have to say that Dimash is the one who is her fan and who's been dreaming to meet and sing with her since his childhood. He was so so happy when he finally got the chance !

@@hatussa8473 yes exactly, Dimash has posted on his Instagram a video of their discussion after the song and he tells her how much he has dreamed of this day since he was a child. And, after this encounter I believe, she wrote the lyrics of Your Love for him.

I no longer dream , I no longer smoke I no longer even have a story I'm dirty without you , I'm ugly without you I'm like an orphan who has no dormitory I no longer want to live my life My life ceases when you go away I no longer have a life & even my bed Turns into a platform of station When you go away I'm sick , completely sick Like when my mother used to go out by night & When she left me alone with my despair I'm sick , perfectly sick You come , I never know when You go again , I never know where & It's been two years soon That you don't care Like to a rock , like to a sin I'm clung to you I'm tired , I'm worn out To pretend I'm happy when they are there I drink every night but all the whiskies Have the same taste to me & All the boats carry your flag I no longer know where I should go , you are everywhere I'm sick , completely sick I pour my blood down over your body & I'm like a dead bird while you sleep I'm sick , perfectly sick You've deprived me of all my songs You've emptied me of all my words Though I used to have talent before your skin This love kills me & if it continues I will die alone with myself Next to my radio like a stupid kid Listening to my own voice that will sing I'm sick , completely sick Like when my mother used to go out by night & When she left me alone with my despair I'm sick , that's it I'm sick You've deprived me of all my songs You've emptied me of all my words & My heart is completely sick Surrounded with barricades , listen , I'm sick lyricstranslate.com/en/Je-suis-malade-Im-sick.html
