Oscar®-nominated William H. Macy and Emmy Rossum star in this fiercely engaging and fearlessly twisted series. Chicagoan Frank Gallagher is the proud single dad of six smart, industrious, independent kids, who without him would be...perhaps better off. When Frank's not at the bar spending what little money they have, he's passed out on the floor. But the kids have found ways to grow up in spite of him. They may not be like any family you know, but they make no apologies for being exactly who they are.

The worst part about this is that you can tell that in the beginning he was ramping up to apologize about spending the whole day complaining about his dad but then Fiona stopped him and made it seem like he was the bad guy for having a problem and wanting to talk to his girlfriend about it. Also Jimmy-Steve was definitely in the right just because his problem isn’t as big as Fionas doesn’t mean that his problems can just be ignored.

I disagree. The problems with the kids? Heavily outweigh those of the adults in every and any scenario. His problems with a drug lord are ones he chose to bring on his own self as an adult and he is more so only crying over and upset over his gay dad. Big deal. He didn’t actually end up getting killed, at least,

Jimmy was the best. He was always there for her. He took all of Fiona's baggage. All her family situation he accepted and embraced it. Fiona was always like "why did you leave me" when he appeared again in the next seasons. He always came back for her. Why would he come back if he never cared? Why would anyone want to be with someone with that amount of baggage with her? He genuinely loved her that's why.

This is when I found out that Fiona can't be in a relationship. Yes, Fiona's situation is bigger but when the person you're dating or in a relationship with has problems and wants to talk about them with you, you're suppose to listen and be there for them and just blow them off and embarrassed them with their problems like Fiona yelling "go and tell your gay dad about it." and few seasons later she cheated on a good man who had a job with his druggy brother

Its not his dad being gay and the parents stuff that is bothering Jimmy. Its the Brazilian drug lord whose got Jimmy married to his daughter at gun point. The fact that he has gone broke and pretty much that his life is in danger. Jail or him being killed are two major possibilities for him. Plus, he's pretty much always thought of this rich kid who gets away with everything: especially in Fiona's eyes. He wants to be treated the same as Fiona and the family.

Sometimes all it takes is just to listen. He didn't ask that she solves them. They both, or they ALL got problems. Why not just be "together" in all that? May not solve anything but sure feels lighter when it's out of your chest, that you don't feel alone. And that seeing someone else's sh!t, makes you think less of your own & the other of theirs.

I'm not a huge fan of Jimmy, but he was right here. He kept trying to talk to her about it, even before this big issue came up, and she just kept brushing it off and telling him to get over it. And I think he was more upset by the fact that his Dad was sleeping with a teenager than the fact that he's gay. I mean, in I think the first scene of the episode he said about how he can't know if when his friends were over as a kid if his Dad was just being nice or had a thing for them, and then he was really weird with Ian (which is understandable after learning he's sleeping with his Dad...) so yeah, I think that was more his issue with it all. And Fiona couldn't take any time to talk to him about it in a nice and respectful way and just see how he was doing with everything...

Fiona is taking on responsibility after responsibility for her siblings she was missing out on fun things to do with V and Steve because of it she had no right to bash him about his dad being gay like come on he was having a major hard time with how to deal with it and she didn’t talk to him about it

Fiona's the most interesting character on the entire show. She's also the most selfless. To a fault, sure, but the situation she's in is categorically unfair. She's risen above and handled the entire thing admirably, and she even spent the first few seasons trying to warn him that if he wants her then this is the baggage that comes with it. He also didn't play his cards perfectly either, lying until getting caught and then smoothing things over as needed but she did tell him her priorities would always be HER kids (not Monica's kids, in her mind God bless her -- HER kids) and Jimmy's always been playing the role of the unrealistically perfect boyfriend with basically no needs of his own. He was always in over his head anyway and never seemed to realize it until it was too late. But the fact is they're incompatible. Fiona is basically going to be incompatible with everyone because most people will expect what Jimmy did, but Fiona unfortunately just doesn't have it to give EVEN IF she wants to more badly than anything else in the world. Her character is a freaking superhero in other words. Sacrificing her own life, happiness and well-being for others.

Remember, people. Before you chastise Fiona for her harsh reaction, that’s about the most rational thing one can do from her perspective. Yes, she obviously should’ve been supportive, but given the sheer absurdity and chaos in her life at this time, I can’t bring myself to blame her at all here. Not saying her behavior is justified or anything, just that it makes perfect sense to act like that from her shoes.

Fiona never had the emotional bandwidth to be in a relationship because all of her energy went to taking care of five kids and herself as well as her drug addicted, alcoholic narcissistic father and occasionally her flighty, bipolar drug addicted mom. So a relationship with her would only ever work if you were solid, like a mountain, able to withstand the storm without adding to it. And Jimmy/Steve was anything but which is partially why she liked him. For her and her world trauma is an everyday thing- you don't dwell in it, don't have the time, there's always something else coming around the corner before you've even begun to deal with what just happened. Side effects of being poor. But life is different for Jimmy. He's never really had a bad thing happen to him, so while he's seen all of the horrible things happening in her life it was never really happening to him. He always had an exit strategy, was always more of a tourist in her life. It's why their relationship was never going to work, why he was so comfortable constantly lying to her, why she was so tolerant of his constant lies. It's also because he's a lot like Frank- pathological liar, selfish, entitled, would rather leech off of others or scam than work hard and apply himself, always ready for a good time. This is no clearer than when he asks her to abandon everything and run away with him despite spending the past year in her world, because he never really understood her and she never really saw him.

Felt bad for him. I kinda enjoyed seeing Fiona freaking out in the finale thinking he was ignoring her calls (he was taken away) because it was a further knock against her to assume he'd do something so petty. This was back when her romantic problems were interesting

I never liked him from the start thought he was too pushy and not understanding of Fiona’s situation. Having said that, I don’t see why she minimized his feelings about his dad. It was obviously something important to him the fact that he kept bringing it up. They both had shit going on. But she could of been more understanding instead of blowing it off like it was no big deal.

bro this actually annoyed me. when you are in a relationship, that also requires you to support them emotionally. Yes, Fiona will always have a lot more extrem things going on in her life. I understand that she has experienced more and that Steve/Jimmy’s situation doesn’t seem that big a deal to her. But that doesn’t mean it doesn’t matter. Certain things will mean more to certain people. Especially if they grew up very different. He wasn’t even trying to compare their situations. He understood that her family has major issues but as his girlfriend, he should be able to come to talk to her about it and not feel judged. Literally one of the worst things you can do when someone vents to you is to say “I have been through worse” or “you’re overreacting” You are supposed to listen and if you want to talk and give advice, try to understand where they are coming from. Fiona just pointed out all the bad thing going on in her life and if she hadn’t told him before about it, she should have because he would have helped her.

I’ve never really been a fan of Steve, I find him to be very hypocritical. He keeps going on about how serious he is about Fiona, but he’s never be straight with her and after this scene he goes right back to Estefania. After which, he simply returns to Fiona like it never happened.

It can't even be blamed on the stress of the situatiom because that's just how she is- it's more than righteous of her not to be in the right mindset to listen to Jimmy-Steve's rant but she could habe just asked him to delay the talk instead of gaslighting him :P

The thing is, yes, his problems were valid and he deserved to be able to share them. But the fact that he was so easily derailed to such an extent by such minor things when Fiona was literally handling way bigger problems only showed that Steve was an adult in age only. Couldn't handle a regular job, couldn't handle his parents divorce cuz of a gay dad, and then couldn't commit to breaking up with Fiona when his life literally got so dangerous that he could no longer game it both ways... And Then, came back to wreck her new "stability" prior to her wedding, wanting her to yet again leave her life and family behind. Fiona was not well equipped for a real relationship and the two way street nature of it (plus giving too much of herself to her siblings). But steve wasn't ready to be an adult.

He literally watched a guy get killed and chopped into peices and was forced to marry the drug leaders daughter so that he wouldn't be next, then after doing everything he could be get back to fiona he tried to make it work even by helping her out with a lot of her problems. Did you notice than in the beginning be was getting prepared to apologize to fiona for how he acted when he found out his dad slept with her teenage brother. But fiona wasn't hearing it and compared their situations saying her problems were superior than his. After walking away she then says "Go cry to your gay dad about it" knowing it would mentally hurt him shows how little she cares about his emotional state but yea steve is only an adult in age right?

Fiona had too much in her plate and Jimmy kept talking about his dad being gay ( I mean, maybe it's a big deal to him) but Fiona had to deal with her own problems instead of Jimmy's.
