I colorized, restored and worked a sound design of this video of the old Shanghai 1940s . You can see a lot of rickshaws, but not a lot of motorized vehicles, you can also see tramways and big buildings and people living their daily life,
Video Restoration Process:
✔ FPS boosted to 60 frames per second
✔ Image resolution boosted up to HD
✔ Improved video sharpness and brightness
✔ Colorized only for the ambiance (not historically accurate)
✔sound design added only for the ambiance
✔restoration:(stabilisation,denoise,cleand,deblur)
Please, be aware that colorization colors are not real and fake, colorization was made only for the ambiance and do not represent real historical data.

As a Chinese, I can conclude that this video was taken before 1937. My evidence is that at about 1 :50, an iconic building appeared on the left side of the road - the Peace Hotel with a dark green pyramid-shaped copper roof. In 1937, on the north side of the Peace Hotel (that is, in the opposite direction from the cameraman's car), a famous building as tall as the Peace Hotel was completed, the Bank of China Building. However, in the video, you can't see the Bank of China building at all, so I can tell that the video was taken before 1937.

Why did they not have horses in China? They used people instead.
@user-nb3ml7vi2z
@user-nb3ml7vi2z Жыл бұрын
@@bardo0007 Raising horses requires vast land resources, although China have a vast land area of 9.6 million square kilometers, only 10 percent can be used for living, farming and animal husbandry. The remaining 90 percent are mountains, rivers and lakes. The Chinese must use their limited land more efficiently, so we tend to raise cattle, pigs and sheep, which resulted in a lack of horses in China since ancient times. Lacking horses, China has been under constant attack from the north since more than 2,000 years ago by nomads who blitzkrieg with cavalry. China built the Great Wall to keep out the cavalry from the north. Horses were also the main goods that the ancient northern nomads exported to China during peacetime. They exported horses to agricultural civilizations in exchange for salt, iron, and cloth, which the nomads lacked.

I believe this is pre-1940s based on two observations. First the most modern cars I saw pre-date the 40's. Secondly there is no sign of war. Shanghai was seized by the Imperial Japanese Army in 1937 at the outbreak of the Second Sino-Japanese War. The city was heavily damaged by the fighting and remained under Japanese occupation until their surrender in 1945.

1、 The new building of the Sassoon Building (Peace Hotel), No. 20 on the Bund, was completed on September 5, 1929. 2、 The statue of Hurd was erected on the Bund of Jiujiang Road in 1914, and moved to the Bund of Hankou Road in 1927 (directly in front of the customs inspection office opposite the customs). In 1941, the statue was dismantled and melted by the Japanese army. 3、 The Bank of China Building at No. 23 on the Bund (the predecessor of the Bank of China Building in the film, the German Federation of Shanghai, has disappeared and was demolished in 1936). Song Ziwen presided over the foundation laying ceremony on October 10, 1936. In 1937, the building structure was roughly completed. 4、 Therefore, the shooting time of this film is roughly between 1936.

I'm hooked on your videos. We do see life depicted in times past in movies but a movie set is very different from the real thing. This really does put us in the picture & we can sense just how no different we are from folks back then. Life goes on. All that changes is technology & of course the changes tech brings. Those rickshaw drivers but have been well fit. Now we do that on a treadmill & pay for it instead of getting paid lol.

Awesome, but the time seems a bit earlier as no Japanese markings or visible war damage. I’ve spent some time along The Bund it looks mostly the same on that side of the river. Puxi (old west side) and the east side all high tech in Pudong (dong east side). Chinese still work so hard even at manual labor.
