My area did not flood. Good thing. I laid them out in the pattern I'd use. As a senior I'll have to figure out how to lift it from the water container & place it where I need it. I like that they're flat until needed. I store them under the couch,next to the front door. It took me a year to dispose of my old sandbags from the prior years water intrusion.

Answering some questions: Mark and Lori invested. $200k for 30%, making the business worth 667k rather than the $2mm valuation they sought. Mark wanted to sell them for about $10 each; Kevin thought they were competing with free products. They currently sell for between $7.50 and $9 a bag in increments of 10-25. They can be reused a couple of times. There are other products on the market that are similar, like quick dam.

Plus sand is heavier than water, water will just wash these water weight bags away
@dwatts643 ай бұрын
I have three major questions, and depending on the answers it might be worth it: 1: It weighs 30 pounds, but since much of that weight is water, is it buoyant in water? It won't do much good for keeping storm waters at bay and things that normal sandbags do it out will just float away if the water gets high. 2: is it dense enough to stop bullets or major flying debris in a storm? That's a huge benefit of sandbags. 3: when it's filled with water, how long will it be a useful "sandbag" in the sun before it loses enough water to go back to being a useless bag of gel beads again?

@thedivide36883 ай бұрын
1978 was when SAP superabsorbent polymers was invented. It took 20 years for the stormbag to be successful because they no longer have to pay patent royalties for the polymer. It’s the same stuff in diapers, water gel beads, woman’s tampon/maxi-pads nothing new here…they just threw some crystals in a burlap bag and called it an invention.

They are only displaying pieces filled with cotton or some other type of lightweight filling. There are about 60 bags there. If each bag is 30lbs, then thats 1800lbs. I doubt production would let them put that on their stage. Plus, it would take forever to set up and take down.

How much volume of water does it take to make those 30 pounds? A gallon weights ≈ 10 lbs, I wonder how much gallons it needs to generate 30lbs. Also, is easier to transport sand than water….

The problems with this is that 1- every sand bag I've ever had has developed rips or holes over time. They still hold up because it's sand and doesn't come out too easily. So what happens when these bags get a hole in them? They will empty out almost immediately. Also, of/when SHTF then sand or dirt will be much easier to come by than water. That's for sure. I think I'll pass.
@aarondrossart60263 ай бұрын
I think the thought is that you lay them out in case a flood happens. It's certainly interesting. I'd be curious to see how they work in reality
@kosaveli66683 ай бұрын
Although I think this storm bag idea is garbage, because it won't conform like sand does. But in their defence, the water wouldn't leak out because it's an absorbing material, think of it like a giant baby diper in a bag
