❯Bullied by classmates, young Max (Cayden Boyd) escapes into a fantasy, conjuring up the action-packed lives of Lavagirl (Taylor Dooley) and Sharkboy (Taylor Lautner). A dark theory I had of this movie when I was a kid is that he dies in the end. When the tornado came through he hid under the desk, was accidentally left there and got seriously injured. Most of the movie is his mind making up a fantastical adventure while he's in a coma and in the end he dies and he goes into heaven which is why everything suddenly works out in the end a little too perfectly.
