There's poetry in the idea that a man from America's Wild West writes a song about our Wild West. I like that.
@normancrew49358 жыл бұрын
It doesn't matter if you are not one of the world's greatest singers, if you write great songs you will be remembered forever. Brilliantly done Steve Earle.

I should say people adore Irish tunes. So right, if you write an Irish classic of this calibre, absolutely! The whole world falls for Irish music.

Well, I always have. Thank you, Ireland, for the music. And the poetry. And, you know, for keeping Europe literate through the Dark Ages. And the induction coil, all the actors. And stout.

@@markythompson I don't think anyone was suggesting otherwise and just that the OP was presumably talking generally, being the song's title, accompanying musicians and musical styling, with much of American Country music having its roots in British and/or Celtic Folk music. Although I personally think people tend to go a little OTT regarding patriotism anyway, considering it's not as if they had any say in the matter. You might just as well say that you are proud of your eye colour or height.

A fabulous song, by a fabulous songwriter--from the Lone Star State of Texas. We love the Irish and their music here in Texas and the fact that the Irish have adopted Steve and Nanci Griffith (and Patty Griffin? Maybe.) is just pain cool. God Bless the Irish!

I have always been a huge fan of Steve Earle but here is a case where an artist song has transcended the artist itself which is a great complement. For all the Irish people that have embraced this song as their own, the song now belongs to Ireland.

Steve is rightly proud of this piece. Rarely do I see performers so happy singing a song. It is a piece of writing that is sly yet heart warming. It got me to pick up the penny whistle. Like most of Steve's stuff it is relatively simple to learn. He is a master of writing in that way; simple chord structure, easy to sing lyrics and the big payoff is usually in the lyrics. From the Devil's Right Hand to Copperhead Road to Have Mercy his music will live on.
