My first Daisy plant is a Montauk, I cut it down to the clump in the fall and its always amazing.. I planted a Shasta from a random seed packet (free gift), transplanted into rich garden soil (topsoil, manure, garden soil, etc, all from bags) and its thriving about 2-3 ft tall covered in blooms.. People all say my flowers are pretty, I build the soil and let the magic happen.. Just received BECKY plugs of Shasta Daisy to place behind mailbox along with two varieties of Salvia.

Thank you for sharing. Such great news. I simply love the Shasta Daisy and also use the blooms as cut flowers. Another of my favourites is the Salvia, great for pollinators and most of all just love the variety of colours. Happy gardening!

These are the most amazing daisies. Great as cut flowers and as long as they get their sun...they just shower you with blooms. Enjoy them.

I amsolutely love this flower.....Question: can you get seeds from the flower itself to grow....thank you
@redsoilgardener29 күн бұрын
Yes you can grow from seed. Once the flower gets spent allow the seeds to dry up on the plant. Shasta seeds need light to germinate and so when you sprinkle them on your moist seed tray don't bury them too deep.

What should I do after the daisys are dead. Even thow the leaves are still blooming
@redsoilgardener6 ай бұрын
Sorry for the late response, dead head the spent flowers ( in that remove the dead daisies) it will encourage more blooms.

Can I grow it in clay soil, and at sunny location?
@redsoilgardener2 жыл бұрын
Hi happy festive season! If you do grow it a clay soil, you should add compost in the soil so that you aerate the soil and increase the drainage.

Does it flower the first year?
@redsoilgardener2 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late reply. If division of the plant is done in early spring you should get bloom in late summer. With seedlings you will wait for the next season.

I've been having trouble growing it from seed
@redsoilgardener Жыл бұрын
Hi, I find that I prefer to propagate through division as it works faster. I did collect the seeds. I have never tried seed propagation. Now that you mention it, I will try to sow the seeds and if successful will do an episode on it.

How do you collect the seed?

Propagation!! When are you going to get on to propagation!! I don't need to know about dead heading etc
@redsoilgardener5 ай бұрын
Hello Susan I did cover propagation, through division of the rhizome check 16.10 onwards. To collect the seeds, you need to get the spent flower and allow it to dry. The seeds come from the yellow centre. Remove the seeds, fill your seed tray or small pot with well draining soil, sprinkle your seed on top of the soil mix and then cover it lightly with soil. Keep soil moist not soggy and place it in a warm area and provide bright indirect light. Good luck and let me know how it goes.
