As a Michigander this makes my heart so warm. There's a lot of state pride here. The state has been through a lot, but the people are strong and kind and the land is beautiful. The Great Lakes are called Great for a reason. The five lakes make up 1/5 of the worlds freshwater. Lake Superior and Lake Michigan are gigantic and very deep (and have sunk many ships). I do hope you come. If you do, you 100% need to make a high priority to get up to the Traverse City area, specifically the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. It is stunning, peaceful, and breathtaking. It is close to Glen Arbor where the Cherry Republic store and restaurant are located (though there are Cherry Republic shops around the state). Traverse City is known as the Cherry Capital of the World, hence why you received so many cherry gifts. Thank you so much for sharing. As a Michigander who was supposed to be in Scotland next week, it feels good to know we at least have this little connection.

Hello shaun, my family relocated to michigan from edinburgh once upon a time, loved your video as always. There's more Great Lakes coastline in Michigan than there is Atlantic coastline in the whole US, Michigan sour cherries are tart like cranberries and lovely, Faygo was founded by immigrant brothers who were confectioners in Tsarist Russia and used their fruit icing flavors in sodas, Vernors was developed by a doctor/pharmacist in the area, according to legend he left his stomach ache curing ginger ale in oak barrels when he went off to volunteer during the us civil war, popularizing the smooth aged peppery flavor. It's especially good in a vanilla ice cream shake, and you'll see it in nearly every episode of Parks and Rec. The university of michigan has been a major institution since its inception, but one of the major reasons for its growth was its universal acceptance of Jewish students. Ivy league schools put strict quotas on how few would be allowed, but U of M was prestigious and had no such qualms, so many of the wealthiest families in the country sent their sons, and later daughters, there. Also Gerald Ford was a national champion winning football captain there before he was president, and replaced the Hail to the Chief presidential entrance song with Hail to the Victors michigan fight song during his tenure. Peace and love.

Be sure to rent a car, if you can, and take a drive out on the Old Mission peninsula to the lighthouse. Michigan is a very laid back state, especially "up nort". Greetings from the Mitten!! I loved this box!! They did a great job, giving you a taste of Michigan. Maybe you didn't show it, but if they didn't include it, the only thing they should have included was saltwater taffy from Mackinac (Mackinaw) Island. Otherwise, it's a perfect box. Enjoy!! I really hope you get here someday, and if you do, visit me in Grand Rapids lol.

The upper peninsula is a different place all together from the lower peninsula. More laid back and slower pace. Don't forget though that Michigan is a pretty big state. It takes around 5 hours of driving to go from the bottom to just the Mackinac bridge that connects our two peninsulas and that's with no traffic or construction.

Oh my FAYGO, Michiganders in the house!!! That was so awesome and pretty inclusive of the state. OK, don't laugh, but having grown up there the 1st 21 years of my life, the only thing I found that I could not duplicate anywhere else was from the Southwestern part of the state-- a chain called Chicken Coop. It was amazing! When my nephew got married a few years back I took an extra day from work so that I could meet my niece for lunch there, lol! It may not be as good as I remember it but it was so fabulous that when I was a kid we never had KFC until I was 20, and a friend forced me to go

Another original Michigander here (Sterling Heights). We have some cool breweries there including Founders in Kalamazoo. Detroit is the Motor City (Ford, GM, Chrysler), Lansing is our capital, you either root for the Spartans (of Michigan State University or that school down the road (University of Michigan Wolverines; ugh), Sleeping Bear and Pictured Rocks are great nature spots to visit, we also have one National Park (Isle Royale: one of the smallest, big rivalry with Ohio, we love to go out on the lakes in summer, we are the only state where you can go South to Canada (and Toronto is 4 hrs from Detroit), known for things like apples/cherries/Detroit style pizza/Mackinac fudge/Zehnder's chicken in Frankenmuth/Coney dogs/Oberon beer/Motown music, also recently in the news negatively for the Flint water crisis and Detroit bankruptcy, Eminem/Kristen Bell/Diana Ross/Madonna/Steve Ballmer/Nate Silver/Larry Page/Derek Jeter among others from Michigan, Leelenau Peninsula great in summer, picking apples/pumpkins in Autumn

Being from Michigan, Wolverines are the University of Michigan teams. Not to be confused with Michigan State University, who are the Spartans. Very huge sports rivalry. Make sure to have a Welsh pasty when up north, Mackinaw City or Upper Peninsula areas have the best. Yum! We have so much here, lakes, rivers (for tubing or fishing), dunes etc. It's a beautiful state to visit. Lots of history.

This was so wonderful for me to watch! I'm from Michigan and I live in Oklahoma now. I had a vacation cancelled this summer, to go home for a visit, because of COVID-19, so this was just really enjoyable to see. When you do go to Michigan, you should go to Ludington, which is my hometown. Besides the beautiful beaches and state park, they have a carferry that takes you across the lake to Wisconsin. The cherry festival in Traverse City is also great to see. The best time to visit is the 4th of July.

My parents live in Michigan and I was born there. A couple of things. Vernor's is good. Very unique. The Michigan shirt they got you is the college football team for the University of Michigan. They are big rivals with the Michigan State Spartans, so clearly we know where their loyalties lie. I second going to Mackinac Island. No cars allowed (you get around by carriage, bikes or foot only). Lots of yummy fudge and salt water taffy. Pictured Rocks Seashore is also beautiful, although you don't want to go to either of those places in the winter. Another cool thing about Michigan is that if you live in the lower peninsula, you can hold up your hand and point to where you live (because the state is shaped like a mitten). Now I grew up in New Mexico, and I would love if you learned more about it. It's a very unique state that often gets overlooked in a lot of ways.

Vernors Ginger Ale is sold nationwide, I buy it here in Montana. It is what we use for stomach complaints. If you are really sick and excuse me, vomiting, when that slows down drink about 2 ozs of that, wait a half an hour. If you don't throw up again, then try a little more. Once you get through the whole bottle it should be safe to drink another. We stay on that for 12 hours to make sure all is okay.

Ok Shaun. You need to listen to this song link. It's about the ship postcard you got of the SS Edmund Fitzgerald. The song is by Gordon Lightfoot. She went down in a Lake Superior storm on November 10, 1975, with the loss of the entire crew of 29. If you live on The Great Lakes this story and song hit you right in the feels. A reminder that no matter how pretty the lakes are you need to respect them because they are deadly. If you read the comments you will see many people commenting on how they would rather be in an ocean storm over one on The Great Lakes. kzbin.info/www/bejne/b6e2hWmei7edaKM

Shaun, you can't go there without taking a trip to the shore of one of the lakes preferably outside a city. Before you go, read the history of that ship that they sent you on the postcard, the Edmond Fitzgerald. Gordon Lightfoot had a song about it, as well. Once you've seen the size of the lakes, you'll appreciate the song more
