Lead has no structural strength it is only a filller. Make sure your welds are solid as you do not want any cracks coming from vibrations when driving. The 911 body flexes quite a lot. Nice progress on your welding skills though. Tip: always keep the fire extinguisher close and a bucket of water with a rag in it.

David Gray Today was a strange coincidence for our household. First, my wife spoke with Jessica Gray (no relation) at the insurance company who informed her that James Gray (no relation to Jessica or us) would be performing an inspection! Then, after watching this video, I was compelled to post and after seeing a post by David Gray, new I had to attach it to this one!

Did you try cleaning the weld areas with a wire brush? That's standard practice with welding, not sure about old sheet metal seams with filler in them. Keep up the great work, very interesting. Heard you on the smoking tire podcast.

Quite an adventure this week mate, thanks for sharing the wins and losses 👍🙂 On the section welding, would it be possible to get a spot welder in there to just go “bam bam bam” ? I don’t know what is on the inside, but if it was possible you’d save quite a bit of time. T-shirt arrived very quickly BTW, looks and feels great 🙂

Tire stores? Collect their old weights, melt down to sticks to use for your lead seams.

Unfortunately they don’t use lead anymore. The lead for filling is a special lead/tin alloy and relatively expensive.

Lead’s as strong as welding? Really?? Please excuse my scepticism but it’s soft AND it won’t be penetrating the mated surfaces like a weld does. I’m unconvinced.

Thanks for the education. Giving me something to think about. A question, please. Considering you've gotten to the end of this one (looks fantastic btw), do you have any issues with paint cracking around the shaved gutters ? ... I want to do a programme of hobby work on a VW bug and want to keep filler and stuff to a minimum so the final paint job is a good as it can be and won't crack in a week! :-) ... thanks
