What impresses me, here, is no matter how much snow is there or how cold it might be, the work goes on. I come from a place a few hundred miles south from where Shawn is working. When the snow crunches under your feet and blows like powder in the breeze. IT IS COLD, well below freezing. I, myself would be hiding, in a warm place, waiting for spring and warmer weather. This, fellow subscribers, is the example of WORK ETHIC, which is sadly lacking in many of us today. My dad once told me, "live up to my name Bob, Add another L and an E to the end, and this is what you should do every day of your life, everything well done". He set the example in that and it is what I have tried to do, all of my 75 years. Shawn is a shining example of "everything well done" You go Shawn. ;-)

A suggestion about heating the boots up, and drying them out some, 1 1/2 to 2" stones. Fill a #10 can with them, put it on the stove to heat up, then shake them into each boot, stuff a wool sock on top of them to keep heat in a little while longer. Do this on the last fill-up of the woodstove, before you finally get up in the morning. They will be nice and warm.

It's really great and it's a pleasure to watch you build the log cabin in the traditional way. Few take the time and not least the effort to do this today. It is extremely labor intensive and takes a long time. One can really understand what the settlers went through. We do not have/did not have quite the same context in Scandinavia, but there were homesteads in the wilderness where people mostly managed themselves up to relatively modern times. In Lillehammer in Norway, they have a museum of cultural history where there are examples that have great similarities with your cabin. Some of them are from the 1600-1700s, but also some from the 1800s. At that time, ore pine was used and these logs really can withstand the test of time with proper maintenance. The oldest stave churches in Norway have such logs and they are from the 12th century.

Have you seen Eric Grankvist YT Channel? He is a young man in his early twenties, I think, building a cabin in much the same way as Mr. James, in the forest of Sweden. I don't recall what type of logs he used, but I'm sure he said. That is impressive that logs can last 10 centuries! I hope he used similar logs, haha.

@@LivinInSim I have briefly seen his channel, but unfortunately I do not have time to follow him properly. I think he makes a sensible impression with the channel. The surname "Grankvist" is a bit interesting in this context. In English the name literally means "spruce twig/stick" :)

I've been watching all of Shawn's amazing progress for a long time now from when he first started his other cabin. It is all so very impressive. I can't help but wonder how well the basement walls and foundation are holding up under the weight of all of those big logs in constructing the cabin itself. That has to be in the tons of pressure by now. I'm sure he has calculated all of that in when estimating how everything was going to fall into place from the git go. Wishing you the best and never forget,-- none of us can do anything without God's making it all possible and allowing us to have good health in the process for which we should all give God the thanks & praise He deserves. The cabin is looking good. Regarding the water line, a free solution would be a very small pin hole leak in the poly tubing just inside the cellar drain that bleeds air back in the line to drain it and drips when the pump is on. Make the hole on top and glue a piece of rubber flap that falls over it so when the pump is on it is shut off by suction. A drip line emitter that can be turned down to zero would make a good air vent that is controllable.

The whole family is buying in, thats awesome, I will follow your daughters channel as well, in that cold weather, I can hear how sharp your tools are with every swing, the ice sure can`t be helping, stay well my friend, thanks for sharing.

Missed you and Cali but was thankful you got to spend time with your family! I watch Emily too and enjoy both! I was born in the Rocky Mountains and crave the mountains sometimes, but thru your shared videos get a little bit of soul rejuvenation, I thank you for that! May my Lord and Savior continue to use you to bring joy and encouragement to so many! God bless y’all abundantly!
