The regular SF and SEALs I know are hilarious, so I could only imagine the level of humor in ST6 or Delta. I can say the older guys are the funniest, so that humor must just distill as time progresses.

Gang members are pretty low on the scary list. They generally can't shoot for sh1t and are too cowardly to fight you by themselves. Country boys with rifles are 100x scarier, and SEALS are 100x scarier than that.

I absolutely love the humility he shares with everyone when he says he loved going to work everyday because everyone he worked with was better than him. Though that is probably not true for him and those he worked with as they are all at such a highly skilled level, it furthers the truth about the group is greater than anyone. Thank you for all you and your peers have done.

Another thing too is that people think these guys are lethal hand-to-hand combat practitioners like Jason Bourne or John Wick. They get training in it but the mentality overall is “if I’m fighting you with my bare hands, I fucked up”. Not saying these guys aren’t tough or can’t handle themselves, and I’m sure some are excellent in that type of situation, but there is a reason they are so highly trained and skilled with their weapon systems

@N3wbMa5t3r Pistol not needed because if your primary malfunctions, you have a handful of guys right next to you to take over in a split second, until you take care of your weapon issue. We, the taxpayers, funded everything these men did, and should, within opsec considerations, be availed of the experience they gained and the lessons held therein. Warrior culture has, throughout human history, held men like this, and their exploits, in high esteem. That doesn't happen if people don't share their stories. The only people who don't want you too know what these men do are the pinky-raising, panty-waisted politicians who are too afraid of the blood on their own hands, and too concerned about appearing precious and pure in the next election cycle. That went away in 2001 I think. I had a mentor/teacher in high school who was UDT/Seal Team 1 in the Vietnam era. Would talk to me about it some bc I was interested. Awesome guy. Could tell he was tough as shit under his nice facade. LOL. Stories he told me about being a SEAL in Vietnam were pretty crazy. Ended up getting attacked while they were on one of their boats going up a river. Proper firefight from Vietkong soldiers on the river bank from what he told me. Shrapnel injury and ultimately medically retired him. His name is on the display at the Navy SEAL Museum in Ft. Pierce that lists operators. But things are different nowadays. I'm glad we get to hear about these missions and the heroic shit most of these guys have done for their teammates and our country!

High end teams don’t need to have the “seniors” and/or superiors push the men to train/excel/learn/maintain fitness, ect. Because motivated self starters are the norm not the exception. A lot of the nonsense and forced motivation of regular troops/units doesn’t exist in “elite” volunteer groups/teams. There’s just no need for it because the pogue’s and slackers have been weeded out way before then. (At least that’s been my experience)

Then, when all the expected money failed to appear because the DOD went after him, he went public with a claim the DOD/Navy screwed him and he lost all of his retirement/medical benefits? I remember watching a news cast with a Navy Admiral (former ST6 member) who publicly stated he was counseled as to what would happen if he left the Navy - lost of benefits, etc. and he made the decision to leave.

The first guy who wrote a book about the bin Laden mission, wrote the book without letting the Navy review it. Which was a violation of his non-disclosure. He ended up having to return all the money he made to a charity, and that kept him out of jail, he went on to produce seal team TV show. This guy did leave without doing his 20 years, which was probably not a smart thing to do because he only had three years left. I don’t know if he’s made enough money on the speaker circuit to make up for the lost retirement.

Interesting interview. Having served in the SOF community (Army), I was required to sign a NDF, as I'm sure this gentleman was once he was picked for ST6. I don't know his backstory and whether he faced backlash for his book from ST6 or legal action from the DOD, but most respected the NDF. One interesting thing though, he said he was "picked" for ST6. Knew many a ST6 member and yes, they were selected by their peers. In comparison, units such as Delta require everyone to complete a multi-stage selection program followed by a grueling training program, after which if successful, they are assigned to a Squadron and told "selection is a never ending process". Admire the Seals for what they do and have accomplished, but if you study the two (ST6 and Delta) they are cut from different cloths.

If you read his book and other peoples books you will get a little more info than he goes into here. I think they mention Green Team is a long process with all the stuff you are mentioning. Panel interviews, psych evals, Crazy PT test, Skydiving, CQB non stop, explosive stuff. Stressful as f*** according to all the guys that have talked about it. I think DJ Shipley talks about that a bit with Shawn Ryan. Very anti-climactic when you are notified if you have been selected and assigned a squadron. Then just get to work kinda deal. Thanks for your service man! My brother did 20 in the Navy. Worked on F-14's, then Hornets, then Super Hornets at Oceana, then Blackhawks near Norfolk.

red carried hatchets, blue was known for skinning more than necessary even though you were supposed to for ID, gold was known to practice hand to hand combat 1v1 vs captured targets who looked challenging and were meant to be killed anyways. AFAIK canoeing was a broad issue. thats about it, black was known for something as well but I forget.

In terms of killing the bad guys, these guys were amazing as is most of the us military. The problem comes when you start nation building. Trying to change thousands of years of Afghanistan culture was impossible. Especially when you have religion mixed in with ideology.

I know what it's like to regret life choices. With my childhood I felt I didn't have a chance at a "normal" life. Was full of regret, and resentments. Drinking, drugging very self destructive. I'm in AA for 2.5years and it's unbelievable! It's giving me a life of freedom! Real freedom! I'm close to God and forever grateful! Just wanted you to know you're not alone in those feelings you were sharing. God bless you!

Rob was not the trigger man on the UBL raid, he was the chosen spokesperson. Bissonette was the shooter but didn't have the personality or mouthpiece to promote the story, so NSRO got the tap. Funny how you all just got some real talk in a KZbin comments section. I'll bet Rob would deny it and Matt would confirm it (offline with a beer).
