Josh, do the best u can. Confess when u fall. The Lord will strengthen u to do better with time. You learn to fast over time, each year doing better than before--in humility, above all. The fast is tailored to the individual's needs based on health, age, life circumstances... Most folk aren't able to follow the fasts fully when they r as young in the Faith as u r. Remember u r not accustomed to fasting. Grow in humility, while doing the best u can, which will be different every fast, depending on your circumstances (r u traveling, healthy, do u do physical work, does your work require concentration...?). Pray more during the Fasts. And give of yourself to others in & for Christ (time, money... what u r able, given your circumstances at the time). Cut out the things that waste time, take your focus away from the Lord. May God bless, guide, & protect u always!

Why does Jesus say: “Who is My mother and who are My brothers?” And He stretched out His hand toward His disciples and said, “Here are My mother and My brothers! I have to imagine the Lord wants you to live the life that you can, that leads you closer to him. Most of us cannot be extremely knowledgeable and strict theology "nerds" that get every tiny aspect of the faith correct conceptually, and then find a community that does as well, etc. We have to struggle mightily at all times. By all this I mean to say that I think you should read books from the Orthodox perspective, pray for the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and attend church where you can. Perhaps your only workable options are Catholic churches?

Because although her birth name is Mary, she is owed greater honor than anyone or anything else - outside of the Triune God. Read the Akathist and I believe you'll understand why she is owed the formal adoration and respect contained in calling her Theotokos.

My best advice would be to talk to those closest to you. I used to struggle with much of the same. Keep praying! You are not alone! “For I am with you always until the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20). *Of course take Fr. I'm truly looking for wisdom and not trying to pick a fight here but... No one is free of sin besides Yeshua our Savior, no? So Mary is not holy, right? She was just another sinner who was given a wonderful gift, no? Perhaps it's my own upbringing but I don't understand this fixation on Mary in the Catholic and Orthodox and some Protestant faiths. She's holy. That means set aside for God. She had ancestral sin like us all but was able to overcome the inclination to sin because of being full of grace. She carried in her womb the God of all. That right there puts her as more than an ordinary person. She devoted her whole life to God. Protestants have lost very precious things of the Faith.

@@LadyMaria So maybe it's just a difference in definitions but to me holy means separate in terms of separation from sin. 1 Samuel 2:2 says that no one is holy besides Yahweh. There were certainly some extraordinary followers of Christ but none were without sin or merited any of the grace that they received. Hence the grace part. Thank you for the response though. @@michaelearlgrey Well, yes, that can be a definition. From an Orthodox online Catechism (from OCA), "The word holy means separate, different, unlike anything else that exists." That can mean set aside for God as well. In the original language of the NT, 'agios' means holy and saint in English. I don't trust Masoretic translations. Also, we must know context. 1 Samuel 2:2 is 1 Kingdoms 2:2 for us. It says that, "No one is holy like the Lord..." And no one is. However, they can still be holy because of Him. I did mention that the Theotokos was full of grace, yes? Well there you go. Holy.

Our Church uses the koiné Greek original language of the NT and OT in koiné Greek as it's the oldest copy. We don't need the KJV as the OT is the Masoretic Text which isn't as accurate or old as the Septuagint. Instead, we follow Christ.

It is reverence for, not worship. I can only speak as an RC. Mary is the highest of all saints, Queen of all saints. Saints are given dulia, Mary is given hyperdulia, latria is given to God and God alone, worship. Look up those terms. There is no full education on this that can be given in a YT comment. This is a very deep subject that goes back to the early days of Christianity. People tend to want easy, quick answers, but that is not possible. If you really want to know, do a deep dive on the history of the Church. No small feat.

Mary, and saints alike are not to be worshiped, they are revered as Holy examples, which can seem similar from the outside. This is an odd example but say you are taking a high level college course, your teacher is a professor, he is a master of his own craft/field, and he bares his own fruits of intelligence. Yet undoubtedly taking his class you will not just heed to his example, you will do research on others in the field, other experts, other people who have shown similar prowess or taken inspiration from work of your professor, and you will generally do work in the class that is not directly linked to your professor, but always brings you back to him. You are taking your professors class, not anyone else’s, and just because you study examples of others and do tangential work for your professor doesn’t mean you are failing the class, you are passing because you are taking example of the people who have taken the class or done similar work. Through the work and examples you come back to your professor. And through the examples of Mary and the Saints we grow stronger is God knowing how awesome his power truly is working through the lives of people before us. Mary being the prime example of living that supremely holy life without sin on earth. We don’t worship her, we take up her example like you look up to anyone who is successful and see their virtue

In the wedding at canna, the mother of Lord God was one of the people doing the catering work with the household people and when the wine got finished and people were wondering what to do she knew her boy was an unusual child and so asked them to ask the Lord God to guide in the matter of getting wine. 🙏🙏🙏
