In the comics Bruce was a rage monster before he got hit by gamma radiation. He father would have fits of rage and beat Bruce as well as his mother. His father also killed his mother in front of him. It's why why Bruce couldn't control his anger and she could.

I'm assuming the saw chamber was there, to put himself in it, and study his own fear responses, while he and Tony were studying the Hulk and how to integrate them. So he had a chamber in his Hulk Lab, that triggers Hulks. I love this show so much. ❤

This show was honestly so much fun to watch. Entertaining from start to finish. And I really appreciate that the fourth wall breaks served a purpose and weren't solely done for comedic effect. I just hope that this show launches Tatiana's career like Bruce launched that second boulder. Orphan Black was absolutely amazing. It's probably my favorite show ever, but it had a pretty small viewership. So I hope this show gets Tatiana onto my screen more often in crazier and crazier roles.

I know it's an unpopular opinion but men have a hard life too (most never had it easy) and no one gives a shit about what the average joe has to go through. So basically you made silly assumptions about me. W/o even knowing who I am and what I do for life, how old I am etc. Also empowering women by using fictional comic book characters with superpowers is a bit silly idea too. Especially in this case when she only got her superpowers cuz of Bruce Banner (male). W/o Bruce there will be no She-Hulk. If men are seeing these days as insecure beings, what this tells us about the state of modern femininity. Plus before there were many strong female characters in movies, games or literature. One key aspect to the difference between his transformations and hers is something the MCU doesn't really address: Bruce experienced years of horrific childhood physical abuse at the hands of his own father, something he bottled up and repressed without having dealt with. In the comics, there is even a gray-skinned form of the hulk who is intelligent and a brute. It took a lot of therapy for comics Bruce to reconcile with his past and become Professor Hulk.

Bruce is unique amongst hulks. Normally aside from a loss of control right after becoming a hulk they tend to have control, though they can lose control if they become enraged enough. Bruce is unique because he has DID. The Hulk isn’t “out of control” Bruce. He’s actually an alter that Bruce had from childhood. Bruce was abused by his father and in the comics witnessed his father kill his mother. The Hulk is the alter Bruce created to deal with his fathers abuse given form. Bruce suppressed that alter to the point he was unaware of its existence though. In the comics Bruce didn’t know he had DID for a very long time and assumed the Hulk was a symptom of the gamma radiation, which is part of why he had such a hard time dealing with it. He was trying to deal with a problem, but it wasn’t the problem he thought it was. My guess is that MCU Bruce hasn’t actually come to understand what the hulk is and has actually suppressed him again not having “integrated” him. Bruce did it in the comics long before his DID diagnosis and the Hulk just eventually came back.
@76063co2
@76063co2 Жыл бұрын
Nailed it. The 2003 movie, though not cannon to the MCU, based the entire film around Bruce's childhood trauma. I think that was a poor choice for that film, and probably why most people disliked it, but those of us that know the comics, or maybe saw that film, already understand where the Hulk actually comes from. Just curious if the MCU is ever going to touch on any of this.?

I think that the main reason why Bruce had that buzz saw chamber was maybe he had someone there (like Tony) to help him use it on him to trigger his own anger while working on Integrating Banner with the Hulk making the Smart Hulk or in cause he had an itch he could not reach, like on his back, just turn it on and back into it (back scratcher) ... great reaction to the Series 1st episode. I loved it too and I have no problem with a strong female hero, someone who can kick everyone's Ass, 1st there was Xena; Warrior Princes then came Buffy the Vampire Slayer and now we have She Hulk my favorite Marvel female Super Hero (I even have her action figure). 🥰

This was a solid episode and a good beginning. I liked the humor and the pacing of the show. I look forward to the rest of the series. To answer your question (as I am sure other people have but I don't want to read all the comments), Jameela is playing Titania (girlfriend/wife of the Absorbing Man, an enemy of the Hulk and Thor). And funny you should mention that her outfit makes her look like a wrestler as she was a member of the Grapplers, a team of augmented female wrestlers who had their own league to disguise their criminal activities.

@@funnylilgalreacts Well yeah, pretty much. To sit there and tell Bruce Banner of all people that he has nothing to teach her about anger management because she deals with it "infinitely more" than him is just pure lunacy. The dialogue sounds less like something she would say to Bruce, and more like something that the writer wanted to get off her chest, so she used this show as a platform to do it.

@@funnylilgalreacts I don't understand the point you're making. She knows enough about what her cousin has been through to know that she doesn't have to regulate her emotions more than him just because she gets catcalled or "mansplained" to. @@funnylilgalreacts Nobody is discounting Jen's experience in life. But what is happening is that Bruce's life is being discounted by the writers, in that while Jen probably gets microaggressions every single day, Bruce deals with far worse experiences ever since he became the Hulk. He's the one guy that Jen cannot say she's better than in terms of anger management. Bruce deals with PTSD worth several lifetimes, let's not pretend being catcalled or mansplained measures up to that. You might think I'm a mansplaining dude but hear me out: we don't have to tear down existing heroes just to prop up new ones. Black Widow didn't have to tear down anybody to stand on her own in the Avengers. Wonderwoman was a strong hero without emasculating anybody (I don't count Aquaman and the Lasso of Truth as emasculation). Jen's "So I'm better than you" to Bruce as he was explaining how and why their DNA processes gamma radiation was completely emasculating and unnecessary. Imagine if Tony told Natasha to shut up, the boys are talking the same way he told Peter the adults is talking in Infinity War. There would be picket lines and boycotts. Their stories aren't the same I agree, but let's be real. Bruce's experiences are far more devastating than Jen has experienced (so far). If Jen was a man you'd say the dialogue was pretty stupid as well.

Then you have experiences which you can't constructively process because you don't have the emotional experience and can't ask for help because of the encouraged trait of stubborn self-reliance. And terrible things happen or happen worse as a result. So...I see a socialization that does everyone more harm than good for everyone, directly & indirectly. The combination of the names Tatiana and Titania, tongue-tier-in-the-making, is awesome. I predict millions of corrected-spelling posts and texts. Heck, I bet a journalist will refer to the wrong name when discussing a character because of the similarity and proximity.

Do not make yourself suffer though the Hulk movie again. The Hulk has never gotten even a half decent solo movie. This is coming from a lifelong Hulk fan who would want nothing more. The Avengers is the first time they got the Hulk right. Love your reactions!

No spoilers for Love & Thunder but I didn't see anything major in this episode that would have tied back to it so you're not missing anything. It seemed like, as far as the MCU timeline goes, that they wanted to fill in the gaps pre & post Endgame battle with Hulk and explaining why we saw him as Banner again in Shang Chi.

No spoilers as I'm going to geek out on Tatiana, loved her work on the show and on Orphan Black. So happy to see her again. Loved the fourth wall breaks, Shehuk was the first for Marvel. So have a great day and STAY SAFE.

I grew up deeply connected to Marvel comics (in particular the X-men) BECAUSE the stories spoke to the struggles we go through, I was super privileged in ways I didn't even realize as a white, male, from an ok middle class household, but as a super nerdy picked on kid I related to certain heroes and found solace in connecting with them. It's only in more recent years I've come to know that not everyone had heroes they could relate to, or sometimes they'd not really get to the real issues different people experienced, and there were struggles women, people of color, lgbtq people were going through that I couldn't even imagine. I LOVE Kamala, and now Jennifer, for this reason. They're giving more people a real connection and I can't love them more for it. People can be critical all they want about phase 4, but shows like this are tapping into what makes comics great and in ways that are beyond all expectations. I love it!

She-Hulk is going to continue the light fun from Ms. Marvel and I am all in. I knew this show wouldn't disappoint mainly because of Tatiana. Been a fan since Orphan Black. If she's half as good in this show as she was in OB, we're in for a treat

In the comics, Bruce suffers from Disassociative Identity Disorder that started when his father abused him as a child. Various iterations of the Hulk represent different personalities that formed in Bruce's psyche to cope with multiple traumas during his life. In the MCU, we haven't seen Bruce go through therapy the way he did in the comics, so him being surprised that Jen doesn't have an alter ego makes sense because MCU Bruce doesn't yet realize his alter ego is actually a disassociative identity.

The MCU hasn't explored this (the 2003 Hulk movie unwisely based the entire movie around it), but in the comics, Bruce has a VERY dark background. His father abused him and mother, whom he adored, was murdered in front of him. His trauma is where the "other guy" rage comes from. Knowing this made her rant about being better at controlling anger than him, because of...ya know, life...sound a little whiney. But that's why she doesn't have the difficulties he has and can control it.
