This was so magical for me & thank you so much for helping be the catalyst in my return to the great love of my life. I'd like to add that Captain Jarrod Ward was my Co-Station Keeper until the power outage forced him to have to leave for purposes of continuing to work. I could never have survived out there without everything he taught me. I joke about yelling & crying because Jarrod is my brother for life. He's still taking care of me at The Hotel Mac as a Handyman & he never gets enough credit. He's one of the most reliable, honest people I've ever known & I'm lucky to have shared the 1st half of my time there with him! If you'd like to visit my girl, you can stay overnight for a once in a lifetime experience. Tell her I miss her every minute of every day

What she said about flipping a light switch and having electricity being a miracle truly resonated with me. Having been without power for 5 months and the first 3 without a generator cause due to high demand the prices were jacked up and we couldn’t afford one till we got our Christmas bonus and by then since power was restored for at least half the population the prices of generators went back to normal. We turned ours on for 8 hours during the end of the day so we could sleep with fans and the fridge managed to keep things frozen. Then one faithful day mid February I saw the glorious power brigade truck and I knew flipping a switch would become a reality again and a dream come true 🙌🏻.

She amazes me. I’ve watched the other documentaries on her experiences. You can feel the love she has for each place she stays. I’d stay in that island! It’s too bad the place wasn’t set up off grid to begin with. I lived off grid for 5 years & it was some of my most favorite memories. We had a propane refrigerator & stove/oven, an outhouse and a solar panel that charged a large battery. This allowed use of one electric light & a small appliance such as a blender. We used kerosene lamps & wood for heat. It was lovely.

She’s so adorable on how emotional she got when she saw the property while riding in the boat! Of all the many visits there and working there, she still got emotional! As for me, I don’t start sniffling for joy when I have to go upstairs to the office to start my workday! Edit: watching toward the end, her emotions are now 100% explained! You really need to watch this from beginning to end to appreciate this property, its history, appreciation of Gentry, even appreciating utilities, like electricity!

I loved hearing this story, it's like a personal journey for both the Light Station and Desiree. And in a Pandemic, that would be a perfect isolated location. I know it's hard for any tourist attraction to survive economically even now but if the place has to sell I hope a well funded individual would buy and maintain it (I'm surprised no billionaire with an ounce of Philanthropy wouldn't, they would have an occasional weekend place to stay, and could easily find a modern power solution). But hopefully it can survive on it's own. Great story telling too, thanks for the video!

Brings back memories- in 1984 I was working crewing on sailboat charters out of San Rafael. We had a charter to bring guests out to a wedding that had been specially arranged to happen on East Brother island. I remember it was quite challenging to safely maneuver a 45 foot sailboat to that little dock and assist guests in wedding attire up and down the ladder.
