I’ve realized from this channel that a mid cleat is the best option for any scenario
@hyflyer64
@hyflyer64 2 жыл бұрын
It's a quick, easy option. If there's strong wind and/or current, we'll nose into the dock and tie off a loose bow line then reverse the stern towards the dock. Really simple to do. Single handed, I'll get the stern to the dock and attach the stern line first then the mid cleat line. Lines and fenders are set long before approaching the dock.
@ralphholiman7401
@ralphholiman7401 2 жыл бұрын
We tie our 42 footer up like that. Pull up next to the dock, tie the line to the amidships cleat as taut as you can to the dock, and she isn't going to move much. Then you can do whatever it is you think you need to do next, at your leisure.

Great initial approach for blue/white boat. All they needed was a single midships line to totally complete a successful docking evolution in 30 seconds - and she could have prepared that single midships line in the no-wake zone. The rub rail and widest part of the boat is BELOW any significant dock, so those tiny fenders will do nothing. AND, she sure appears to be using granny knots instead of cleat knots. All of these rookie mistakes could have been avoided by taking a CG Aux or Power Squadron boating class.

I live in Crystal Beach Ontario and we have the same ongoing problem at our boat launch with jet ski morons. We have a single launch , one side to launch the other to re cover. Jet skiers like to tie up at the recovery side to take a break so boats cannot use the launch. One even drove into my boat when I asked them to move so I could get my boat out of the water. Another actually hit the rear of my SUV when I was getting my boat onto my trailer. The riudest and most entitled people seem to ride these things

Fenders are nearly useless for that boat and tide level. They'll only do anything if they happen to line up with the vertical beams. Their best bet would probably be to fold the top rearward and let her grab a post from mid-ship, then he could get on the dock and tie it off. If this was the kind of struggle it took to get docked I would have stopped boating long ago.

I've said it many times, have ONE LINE tied at the bow cleat down to the stern cleat, you have control over both the bow and stern. In this pathetic attempt at mooring the boat, come in and did that very good, then start to fit fenders and lines. She had the perfect opportunity to jump onto the dock from the stern, but just throw the stern line onto the dock. Now if you only want to use a single line, have it tied to the centre cleat if you have one, make sure you have enough length, after you have got onto the dock, slowing pull boat in and it will line up nicely. Also go down on a quite day and practice and practice.

I see this all the time. You are right they should have set the fenders well in advance of getting to the dock. Then when you get to the dock, forget about a bow line and a stern line, all you need is line on the mid cleat. You are not saying there, it's supposed to be temporary. With the mid cleat line the boat can go anywhere. If the bow tried to pull away the stern fender will prevent that. Like wise, if the stern tries to pull away the bow fender will prevent that. Quick and Secure, it doesn't get any better than that. Another time saver is to have those fenders tied on way before you get to the dock. I would put fenders our on both sides so you can quickly use either side. When you get close just flip them over and be prepared to tie off on the mid cleat. Then again, your videos would not be as entertaining, so there is that.

How make to make docking as difficult as possible for no reason.. at any time she could have gotten on the dock and held the Bimini top. Fenders are pointless when your entire freeboard is below the dock level.

So many try to run boats as if they have wheels on ground. The concept that boats drift due to wind & current is beyond them. Then there are the bow jumpers who hop off with line then PULL. Sheesh people, use the spring line first, if you have a spring cleat, or loop the stern line around a post then tie it off at the stern cleat & pull forward on it. The boat will dock itself. No need for any gymnastics of people leaping off moving boats.

I don't get it. He held it so well. Just tie the stern then get off and secure the bow. It was there
