At the same time I feel bad for her due to the fame she garnered due to all this since, as far as I know, she kind of just wanted a normal life after all this. I can’t blame her for wanting to leave him bc of the food hoarding issue. My grandma was raised during the Great Depression on a cotton farm where they had to grow a big ass garden and keep chickens bc they would regularly run out of food and start to starve. One of her baby siblings literally died from starving when her mom’s breast randomly stopped producing milk. She refused to throw any bit of off food away. She would cut mold off a muffin and eat the rest, or make us eat left overs 3/5 days in a row. My dad inherited this fear of not having food and after my grandma died he got really bad about not wanting to throw things away. In his house with just him he has 2 full refrigerators and 2 deep freezers and is convinced nothing can go bad if it’s frozen.

The only real differentiator between first and second degree murder is premeditation. Second degree murder includes the defendant knowing their actions might/will cause death, but usually it’s a heat of the passion charge or a deal charge. She likely got a second degree charge because of her circumstances or because of a deal giving up her boyfriend, even though she was involved in the premeditated planning
