SHEIKHS in Distress: CRISIS in the PERSIAN GULF - VisualPolitik EN

Күн бұрын

War in Yemen, war in Syria, confrontation with Iran, a diplomatic crisis with Qatar and now, to top it off, the coronavirus crisis and the collapse in oil prices.
The Persian Gulf countries have been living on the brink of a nervous breakdown for a few years.
And yet these are some of the richest countries in the world, at least given the immense fortune that the royal families that govern these countries control.
The point is that with the current coronavirus crisis and the collapse in oil prices, many of these monarchies are up against the ropes.
And that brings up several questions: What exactly is happening with the petro-monarchies of the Persian Gulf? What future do they face? Is their story of money, riches and power coming to an end? Which countries will be most affected? In this video, we'll tell you all the details.

Probably wouldnt get there that fast. We still use coal, albeit to a lesser extent that what we do ever since oil came in to the picture... It'll be the same thing with oil with the advent of electric vehicles.. Countries in Africa would still be dependent on oil for driving their energy needs. But two things are going to happen- oil will become dirt cheap due to a lack of demand and countries that were dependent on them, will face massive recessions.

@ Jim lambrick it is getting there. All you have to do is look up the ecological side effects of attaining the lithium. Right now they are able to get it from salt brine but it still takes 500000 gallons of water for a ton of the stuff. Just wait till they have to take the tops of mountains off for the stuff.

Saudi Arabia, Oman and Bahrain locals are willing to work and have a newer generation of educated population. They will be fine giving their own people work and throwing out expats except blue collar workers in the field of construction, textile, oil drilling. As for UAE, Qatar and Kuwait; their population is too small and will remain reliant on expats for work. Kuwaiti newer generation could work in white collar jobs reducing expats however, keeping blue collar workers. UAE/Qatar will forever be reliant on expat labor, their population is too small to carry their current economy.

the main issue right now is that the oilproducts we are using are the most energy-rich substance we know of. No battery can compete with the energy by weight. But as soon as there is a replacement as energy-source, that can be stored and used efficiently, oil-prices will drop hard. But as of now, we couldn't build a plane running on electrical engines, just because of the weight of the batteries. So there will be oil used, unless we find other ways to fly.
@ExcessumGaming
@ExcessumGaming 4 жыл бұрын
@@liquidminds We are getting there. This year will be major breakthrough. After that is matter of scaling it up. Its only a matter of time. You cant make oil engines much better energy density wise. But batteries barely started and have near infinite growth ahead of them. Also for flying we will most likely use hybrid electric engines with batteries and hydrogen that have much better energy density than oil. While its pretty meh for cars for air planes its perfect.

40% public deficit means that in 1 year they will overspend more than 40% of what the government receive through taxes and oil. It's not the same as debt which governments get for having deficit continually for many year. By just having two years of 40% deficit, would be comparable to the UK debt in percentages, which UK have built up over many decades.

The Muslim countries of the Middle East will have some major failures. Their biggest problem, IMO, is Islam itself. If you go back to 1300, the difference between the Islamic world and Christian Europe was not that much. Rulers in both areas looked to religious leaders to confirm their title, and say they are OK with god. In Europe, rulers had to get their marriages blessed by the Pope. It was a Pope's refusal to allow King Henry VIII to divorce and marry another that caused England to become Protestant. In fact, it was the religious wars, and atrocities of the 1500's that ended religion's importance in Western Europe. By 1700, government no longer cared what religion a person was. In 1600, the Archbishop of Canterbury was the 2nd most powerful person in England. BY 1700, he disappears from history. He is no longer important as a political leader.

Enjoyable video but missed a massive strategic element... Climate Change. This presents both an opportunity and risk for the Persian Gulf, but unsure how you can do this video and omit the issue of climate change. EU regulations are reorienting capital flows into sustainable areas, governments around the world are committed to low carbon future, central banks and financial regulators have implemented best practice for asset owners and institutional investors to consider these issues. The direction of travel is clear from that financial standpoint

Some inaccuracies in this video. The gulf states do not rely entirely on oil. They have huge sovereign wealth funds abroad that generate billions to the economy. Saudi Arabia has huge agricultural, fishing and manufacturing sectors just like Oman and UAE. I think you missed a lot of important details.

Slick presentation but the data does not back it up. At 16:58 you say the "Persian Gulf countries have 3.5 trillion reserve petro $$, enough to put the rest of the world's balance sheets in order". The current US federal debt is close to 30 trillion $$, so not even close. Also a good chunk of that debt is from fighting middle eastern wars to prop up Arab oil country despots. The middle East is a sandbox used by the superpowers to fight proxy wars, and thereby promote the sale of weapons and the military industrial state. The current problems for OPEC are caused by the price wars between Russia and Saudi's, the goal of which is to destroy US oil production, and again make us dependent on non-domestic oil production. The U.S. needs to withdraw completely from middle east, let them jihad themselves to oblivion (Syria for example), implement steep tariffs for imported oil, protect our domestic oil production. Also, some b.s. About middle East being center of the world for shipping from China...so what? Do you know how much US money is spent keeping the Persian gulf open? Somali pirates, Iranian attack boats ring a bell? Let gulf oil countries and China patrol this area, rebuild traditional European Mediterranean shipping that's where all the goods are headed anyway.

I guess nobody thought to tell the Saudi economists that you cut expenses and raise taxes during bull years, not when the economy is contracting as it only causes further contraction and a downward spiral. Austerity doesn't work because you are cutting your own GDP and curtailing spending power, just ask southern Europe. If you want to cut expenses and raise taxes, then do it during the high growth years.
