A tip for that gasket. Put a finger full of oil on/around it. To keep it from sticking to the block.

Correct! I have been using 6.5 quarts on my 07 Shelby GT500 conv. for yrs now and is perfect fill and make sure you use ford racing filter as well and fill oil in filter before install. This is what keeps all the metal out of the engine, way better filter. Good vid!

Good advice re: periodic oil analysis. I've used blackstone labs to analyze my oil and they've provided useful info. It's the only sure way to know how your engine is wearing....and your oil performing. As you said, most of us Shelby GT500 owners don't put a lot of mileage on our cars during the driving season, so chances are, any quality 5W-50 motor oil is going to be holding up fine; the oil simply isn't stressed enough to fail. When you checked your oil after replacing it, was the oil level at or just below the top hole in the dip stick?

Good Video! 6.5 qts. is what my dealer uses on my 2014 GT500 - Thanks for posting this.

I believe the 13/14s require 8.5 quarts!

Correct 8.5 quarts not 6.5, thanks

Great vid. What about oil additives like BG MOA? Would it work with the 5W-50 MC?
@KonaBlueSVT12 күн бұрын
Yes, MOA is what I use in all my vehicles, including the Shelby.

So where did you send off for an oil analysis and how much did you send them? I'll take your recommendation. Thanks
@KonaBlueSVT3 жыл бұрын
Either Blackstone or Polaris laboratories. You can order test kits from them that come with instructions and sample containers.

@KonaBlueSVT next time you have the car up in the air can you do a short video just showing what undershields and bolts that need to come off? Some people say the whole bumper needs to come off?! Thanks!

@Twobarpsi I will definitely do that! The bumper does not need to come off!

I don't quite get why in the world anyone would send their oil in for analysis on a 2000 Mila a year Sunday cruiser? I guess if your trying to pull 8's at the strip but if your taking the fam out for ice cream on Sundays it seems a bit insane.
@KonaBlueSVT2 жыл бұрын
If you run the car hard, it's always a good idea. Even if you don't it can help to catch any issues early. I've seen bad air filters that showed zero drivability signs, but had high silicon content in the oil, making it more abrasive. I have also seen oil analysis identify fuel or coolant system issues. Personally I would rather find problems early on a $20k engine.
@carlmazziotti2212 жыл бұрын
@@KonaBlueSVT I totally agree if you drive it hard. If it's a Sunday cruiser I don't see the point. Where do you draw the line... Gear oil, transmission.. then how about the family minivan that drives in all the different seasons in excess of 10k a year. To each his own. In my opinion these motors are tougher than 90% of the others coming off the assembly line. If your not tracking the car it should be good for a couple hundred thousand miles with normal maintenance. I have an 07 GT500 and never track it putting on about 2000 a year. It gets mobile 1 every other year if I'm feeling ambitious. I don't recommend that type of maintenance but that's how I roll. My oil drains like golden honey on every change.

@@carlmazziotti221Oil analysis is the only way to be sure that your motor and motor oil are in good shape. I consider it peace of mind for not much $$, but agree with your point that a car that's not driven hard (somewhat subjective) with a low number of miles each season, shouldn't have issues with motor/oil breakdown.

Paying for oil analyst is a waste of money. I used to work as a contractor for Castrol Oil and if you have metal in your motor its simply because you beat the car all the time and/or you run low oil level or pressure. BTW there is always traces of metal in engine oil even if you drive your car like an old lady. Any synthetic oil from the big brands will be good as long as you follow the engine builder's recommendations for viscosity. Don't try to become one of those "oil expert" . Fresh oil every 3K miles.
@KonaBlueSVT8 ай бұрын
It's definitely not a waste of money to know what's going on with a $20k engine... True, you will have some metals and contaminants in the oil, but there is a normal range for these things. Also, depending on the type of metals found, it can help isolate where the metal is coming from, block, pistons, bearings, etc. Oil analysis can also help to find fueling, air filter/ intake, head gasket problems, etc before they cause major issues. A real waste of money would be to just change an expensive full synthetic engine oil when it still has thousands of miles of use and protection left.

@cflgt500 I run 10w40 amsoil full synthetic. Its a suitable replacement. The Motorcraft 5w50 sheers down to like 20-30 weight within 2000 or so miles depending on use and the 10w40 amsoil stays 40 weight and doesn't really sheer based on tests I seen on forums. The guy used multiple oils on a 700+ rwhp tvs gt500 and the amsoil 10w40 had best results according to his tests.
