Pete Brock stands apart because he read a lot on past experiences other companies had with aerodynamic. It seems only visionaries outside large US automotive manufacturing companies could see the advantages . Europe was way ahead of the game when it came to a complete package . Americans liked big cubic inch motors to propel those huge cars down long highways though . Forget brakes , forget handling , forget fuel mileage . The big three were more concerned as to what sold and it was priority over anything else .

One of the true honors of my life was to meet Mr. Brock at his facility, thanks to my good friend Jim King. I had just finished a painting of the Daytonas at Le Mans and Jim took me to meet Pete and show him the painting. He looked closely at it and I, being the artist, was a bit tense at this point. Mr Brock took his hand over the hood of the first Daytons and said, "You got the curve of the hood right." I was a happy artist.

Many automotive sports today are way out of the reach of novices and technology is much more advanced than during this period . What sets this story apart is Shelby and his team putting together the Daytona Coupe after the success of the Cobra . Pete Brocks design propelled Shelby and his team to eventually win the 24 hour of Le Mans will never be repeated . It is a bygone era when American road racing was in its infancy . Shelby helped pave the way for Ford to eventually win with the Ford GT40 . It’s an incredible story ! A story that will forever be talked about by future automotive enthusiasts in road racing !

I have a die cast Exoto #5 Daytona Coupe, it has the signatures of Dan Gurney and Bob Bondurant on the hood. I’m 75y.o. and need to find a home for this model before it ends up in some probate settlement and fades away forever.

Does Michael Schumacher still own the one and only 427 coupe? I know he bought it, several years before his accident and it has disappeared from public eye.

Great video! Thanks!Just curious, where was the video shot? I was at Shelby American in Las Vegas a couple of years ago and didn't see that room in the video.

The sad thing is that after racing in Europe they couldn’t afford bringing the 5-6 Daytonas back so they dumped them in the ocean. Just think if you can find them and bring them up.

I heard peter brock and the designer from alpha romeo had the same german aerodynamic papers from WW2. They didn't know about each other, but from that german paperwork they came up with near identical design.

@@johnnyringo4463 Peter got his copies from G.M. archives, printed in German. He said he didn't know much German, but he knew what the numerical factors meant and used this in designing the Daytona.
