Shelter 2: Magical Review

In this video, Globku gives you his opinion about Might and Delight's latest title: Shelter 2. This is a game where you play as a Lynx, mother of 4 cubs, exploring, hunting and roaming the open world to ensure the cub's survival.
We don't score our reviews, Scores are an objective way of conveying a subjective opinion. Different people will like the game differently, and that's what we try to transmit with our reviews. Also, a score has the disadvantage of the general public just looking at the number to judge a game and forego all the arguments that the score was based on. I really loved Shelter I. For me, the ending was kind of heartbreaking, but at the same time a reminder of how nature works. It's realistic in that sense whilst the artstyle isn't. Strangely, I just love that. And the soundtrack is really good too.

The ending of the first Shelter, I agree that it is emotionally strong, but mechanically goes against the whole game's message. There's no avoiding that ending, control is taken from the player, and control was exactly what gave you the responsibility over your cubs' life. So that's my problem with that. Fortunately, does not happen in Shelter 2. Thank you for your comment.

Magical Noob Why? In nature, if an eagle (or whatever it was) attacked and hurt you, you'd lose the ability to run away as well.

TheLeftLibertarianAtheist yeah, but the game is linear. No matter what you do, you're doomed from the start. I don't have a problem with the eagle, my problem is that the game has a message, a message that says "if you're careful, you might reach the end with all your cubs alive". and then at the end, it throws that message out the window

I would love to see a game like this where you are a wolf and you have to start and maintain a wolf pack. I think it would be cool to make it permadeath (for you and the npc wolves) but also make it so there is no endgame. you just play and survive as long as you can or until you get bored. It would be also cool to have some kind of political hierarchy and feuds between other wolf packs. I would set it in the 1800's so you would have to defend yourself from fur trappers and native american hunters. Man, I really oughta pitch this to the devs LOL.

It's a shame that devs typically run away from people who wanna pitch ideas. If they do something even remotely similar to what you suggest, you've got grounds to put them in court and demand some fat dollars out of them.

Having played shelter 1 and 2, I can clearly say that I prefer shelter 2, simply because the first one, once you reach the end of your journey, well, it's the end. You will never have another ending, and replaying will only make you improve strategically. Once you've finished the game with all 5 badgers alive, for me I had no more reasons to play. What shelter 2 would need is maby a faint story line kind of thing that would push you to move from zone to zone, but still keeping it an open world game. But you will have to create that story, which means you will have find what action will generate what consequence(for example, going to the river on a rainy day will cause a flood, wich will take you and your kits to another zone), and choose to do these actions or not with your next character. That way, it will differ from shelter 1 where just going further is all you could do.

well wolf quest is kind of like this i guess, and impressive title although thats more roleplay like. i wish there was more games like these, at least something with horses that isnt girly. as all horse games are dressup stuff lol

i own the game it really is wuch a beautiful game i love it:) i play it everyday and i have over 100 lynx in my fqmily tree and ive developed a strategy for the game and i just love it and cry everytime i finish and start a litter :D

A Lynx and a Bobcat are two different animals. We have them both in Canada. Also a Canadian Lynx is different than a Eurasian Lynx.

Fucking breathtaking. The soundtrack oh my god i felt like IT WAS ME in those woods. Sometimes there was a tone shift to the music and i felt like being dropped upon the unknow, genuinely scared, attemptive.

I think the point is a bit overlooked in the sense that the beauty is the reward of the exploration, the sceneries are fantastic and I found it hard to find a dull moment in my first playthrough, moving from area to area, further from my home which mounts up the pressure of keeping you're cubs safe, overall its a vacation game. A break away from the norm, you get emotionally challenged & rewarded and it feels incredible!

I'm glad you felt that way! You probably enjoyed this game more than I did. Personally, I think the art style is original but not particularly beautiful, and a lot of the areas are very similar to each other, so exploration on itself wasn't enough reward for me. I wish this game had more stuff to do. But thank you for your opinion.

I just really enjoyed the atmosphere the world gives off. I haven't played much though as I lost a cub early on and rage quit as my frames were just all over the place and I couldn't handle the sound of the cub dying D: Fantastic game. WILL make you weep. S'good though. Good for the soul. (Although also, probably not).

Lynx and bobcats aren’t the same creatures but it’s really easy to think they are I honestly love the game and will get it on the switch but they made a game called meadow and it’s beautiful I wish it would come to the switch so I can finally play it but every game is beautiful by them and just amazing

I just finished this game and it's kinda cute. I would have liked it more if it were multiplayer like Wolf Quest, but still cute. Nice visuals, but I don't see myself coming back to this more than 2-3 times

Hey MN, could you review the game helldivers? It's a really good game but it seems people haven't been giving it much attention since it didn't have much marketing done on it.

I think so to. I've only played about 3 hours of it, but I liked it so far. But we're not reviewing that. We have a policy of reviewing games where we can get in touch with the publishers so we can have the game before release and actually spend some time with it and still release the review at an appropriate time, and we still haven't been able to get in touch with Sony
