I started collecting steins to reclaim some of my roots. I grew up in a German-American neighborhood in the Mid-Atlantic. Several of my friend's father had a basement bar, complete with old German beer ads and beer steins. When I finally bought my own house, I recreated that look in my basement, and started adding to the steins that were gifted to me over the years. I will never have hundreds of them, but I probably have about 30, 15 of which are true antiques - several are cheap, and I just like the look of them. Prost!

Hi, I'm from Fortaleza, CE, Brazil. I have one Imperial German WWI Era Kaiserliche Marine Navy 1st High Seas Torpedo Boat Flotilla Beer Stein - dated 1907-1910. It is marked with "Mtr. Petersen". I didn't know it was so valuable. Wish I could read more about it history.

Seems like a nice collection. Years on some Of the pieces he talks about are a bit off. And the origin story he tells about the plague is a common misconception. There is not a single shred of evidence supporting that therory.

Agree. The myth about lids on steins is particularily glaring. A lot of the regimental steins shown are reproductions done in the 1960s to the 1980s.
