Since making this video I found a better solution. Check out this video after watching this one: • Shimano GRX 11-46 Cass...
I was trying to find a sure fire way to make the GRX 812 Derailer work with an 11-46 tooth cassette. I couldn’t find any definitive results online. So I tried this and The Wolf Tooth Goat Link works great with an 11-46 tooth cassette.

Total side note but yet related. Earler I have been running a mullet set up on 2x11 drivetrain (GRX 46/30) and it has worked just fine on the SLX 11-40 cassette. Good, even. I have used it for road work, gravel, and touring. But I really could not get over that roadlink I had to install. It just did not feel right having to add that extra piece of metal, despite it working just fine. And with a vacation that turned into yet another summer of not traveling, along with some extra cash from working, I got a little bit of spending money to throw away at a new project. So I just did. And after a couple of hours work out in the garage - just in from it in fact - I now run my 2x11 GRX 46/30 cranks on the same 11-40 cassette, but without the roadlink. And now I can cross chain on big/big, without other problems than that it rattles the chain. Here is the most expensive mullet set up devised ever: Take your existing 2x11 810 GRX rear derailleur and ditch it in the parts bin, after removing the outboard jockey wheel. Open up your brand new box with a GRX 812 rear derailleur. Remove the derailleur cage, and replace with a Garbaruk cage, per instructions that can be found on KZbin. Install the inboard jockeywheel from the 812, and for outboard wheel use the one from the 810. Add 2 links to existing chain. Remove roadlink from bike, if not already done. Install 812 derailleur on bike. Install old (or new) shifting wire. Trim B-screw. Trim derailleur travel. Install shifting cable. Adjust shifting as normal. Check for compatibility on both small/small and big/big, as not to run into trouble. It worked. My bike is a Niner RLT steel frame, 56 cm. I used to use 116 links, but now have 118 (Shimano HGX chain). And I no longer need the roadlink. Was it wort it? Most likely "no". Do I like it? Yes. Will go for a gravel test spin tonight. If anyone expresses interest, I'll see if I can upload a vid of the set up and do a few gear changes just like in this video on where I am commenting.

Which wolftooth goatlink should i get? there are two in their website. in my build, would I need a new chain? The RD-RX812 is easy (and rather cheap) to modify with a RD-M8000-SGS cage. It shifts 2x11 flawless with 28/42 (or 30/46 GRX) front and 11/42 rear. I overstress its capacity with 24/42 front and 11/40 cassette, but it works more than good enough, even when really dirty. I checked it with 11/46 and 28/42 front, but 49 links chain capacity is asking for to much. The RD-RX812's geometry is like the RD-M8000.

I unintentionally bought the RD-RX812 thinking I could would use it as a 2×11 as I wanted to run 11-40 cassette (Idiot me, I didn't read the GRX compatibility chart correctly).Not sure if I want to buy a new RD-RX810 to run it 2x11 or modify is you have suggested. I feel like kicking myself!!!

@@zafrullahyazid6542 Works over 30.000km combined for me and a friend even under adverse conditions. The RX812 parallelogramm has the right slope to follow the shape of bigger MTB cassettes. Can I use 11-46 for double chainring on my crankset?
@andreashein7219
@andreashein7219 6 ай бұрын
@@dipsky-xu3wl Technically, it works. The chain has to be very long so that the large diagonal (large-large) can be shifted without destroying the rear derailleur or frame. This means that the upper guide pulley is positioned unfavourably and the overall capacity is exceeded too far. For me, this has led to imprecise shifting even with new and clean components.

Would the dropout hanger be needed to be in a specific angle? Tried the goat link and it was almost parallel to the ground when installed which made it impossible to reach the 50 cog
@peterscott4183

Hanger's are not adjustable. Did you remove the knuckle from the derailleur before adding the goat link? Also, this is for a 46t not a 50t. i doubt it will work with a 50t. I think Garbaruk has solutions for a 50t.
