I have the new 12 speed di2 ultegra group set on my new tcr which came with 52/36 & 11/30 which I've just switched to 50 /34 & 11/34 cassette for my upcoming Alps trip. The changing on both sizes was immensely smooth, even under high power, and the additional clearance built into the new brakes had eliminated disc rub. Compared to my sram force etap, its light years ahead although not as aesthetically pleasing on the eye in my pov. Anyone thinking of upgrading groupsets, I would say based on my experience you would have no regrets.

@@michaellee7046 I didn't because smaller chain rings on the front and larger on the back balanced out for sizing. I would have had to remove some links should I have just changed the front, or a new chain if just putting larger on the rear

Another highly informative and time-efficient video. I'd just like to add: If your gearing isn't easy enough and you ride decent hills, you are forced to put out more watts to keep going than may be ideal. This higher watt output wears you out faster because it may be forcing you into your anerobic zone. This "burns matches" and crushes you compared to what you could be doing with easier gearing.

And the guy giving the advice is riding a 54/42 front chainring !!! PLEASE !!!!! no amateur cyclist ever needs a 54/42 or even a 53/39.... example 52T front and 11T rear @ 95cadence is 35.2mph/56.6kph if your holding that you should be in the pro peleton... so again I ask why on earth would u ever have bigger than a 52/36 or maybe 38 set of front chainrings on.....

@@Steve-jo3cl Couldn't agree more. I run 11spd 46/30 chainring and 11-34 out the back. Nice to see the subject brought up. Needs to be discussed much much more than it is, was my point.

Great information! I’m thinking about changing my gearing on my Émonda and I’m trying to get some ideas on how I want to spec my new Madone. I was also thinking about going with a SRM power meter carbon and titanium crankset on the Madone and I’m curious of your thoughts on that compared to the Dura Ace crankset.

Hey Jon, I know you live your Shimano. DC Rainmaker just released important info that impacts your Hammerhead Karoo. You need to immediately turn off updates, or otherwise decline any offered updates on your Karoo. The problem is Shimano. They just ordered Hsmmerhead to remove all Shimano functionality (e.g. the Di2 features). Short story is that since SRAM bought Hammerhead, Shimano now decided they will not play nice and will not let anyone associated with their competitor have access to their products (Shimano still uses a proprietary form of the ANT+ protocol, so not being part of the 'open' standard, they can yank their support at anytime which they have. Karoo users now have to bear the burden of this. Anyway, this makes my choice between EKAR or GRX for my upcoming gravel build that much simpler. They can go pound sand.

I used to think sram was stupid for changing to a 48 upfront. But then I started looking at the data I spent over 95% of my time in the big ring 48/10-33. My other road bike has good old sprinter gearing I spend close to 50/50 in each ring. Yea the bigger gears are maybe more efficient but as soon as you drop into the smaller chainring you've lost the theoretical efficient gearing.

So silly Shimano gets back to bigger chainrings. In the last two decades, gears became smaller for good reasons. So many cyclists finally got up the hills they never managed to before, and it even got many people into cycling because the smaller gears meant it does not require extreme fitness to ride up a hill comfortably at a decent speed. Now some nerd at Shimano comes up with "better drivetrain efficiency" and people are starting to fall for it, even though nobody ever blamed an "unefficient drivetrain" when the ride felt slow.
@Steve-jo3cl
@Steve-jo3cl 2 жыл бұрын
EXACTLY !!!!! Why on earth a guy riding a 54/42 chainrings is giving gearing advice ....... If your worried about drivetrain efficiency on a road bike, you really need to be more worried about the grease in your bearings, CRAZY !!!
