After using both reels all year, I wanted to give my review of the Shimano Vanford 2500 and which one should you buy. #bassfishing #fishingtips #shimano #daiwa #reels #reelreview

I switched to Shimano from PENN in 2016 with the Stradic ci4+ the day it launched. Now I own a Vanford, Stradic FL, and a Sahara. I also picked up a Daiwa BG and Ballistic LT along the way. Shimano in my experience makes smoother and better performing reels. My Ballistic LTs bail has snap shut when casting on me multiple times. Never had that issue with my Shimanos or PENNs. The Ballistic also isn’t as smooth as any of the Shimanos. The BG has performed very well however and is smooth.

Same. I used penn when i was beginner and when i experience shimano it's on a different level. Some few daiwa is ok too.

@@jeffnaval4894 I like PENN for saltwater since they’re really easy to service. But yeah it’s mainly Shimano for me. They hold up and stay smooth.

To me the smoothness of the drag is very important. It also makes fishing a lot more fun when the drag is butter smooth. I have seen some shimanos like the Stradic don’t have a smooth drag out of the factory. However, I love my Shimano Stradic but have also looked into the Ballistic

I do feel like the daiwa drag is a bit smoother
@InshorePursuitFL Жыл бұрын
@@Everything_Beast yes I have heard this too. Good to hear it from you as well. I was able to clean my drag washers and apply a very thin film of drag grease and it helped a lot for my Stradic but the Daiwa’s don’t seem to have that issue

I have bought Daiwa reels this year and i like them. Daiwa 18 Prorex X LT Daiwa 22 Prorex V LT Daiwa 22 Prorex XR (Baitcaster) Daiwa 23 Ninja All of them perform good, there's nothing to complain about.

Between the two reels. After long term usage, the shimano will feel better. The gears in the daiwa will start to get loose and cause more play in the handle. I've had numerous daiwa spinning reels with loose sloppy handle play because they get worn out. I've even seen it in the Exist. The shimano spinning reels will hold out much better. Very few of my shimano spinning reels have loose handles.

Thank you for your feedback. As stated, my test window for both was somewhat short in order to get equal time with both reels this season. I greatly appreciate your input on long term usage on both. I researched the older versions or comparable models and found it was a toss up with either when it came to loosening of the tolerances over time. I plan to do an update video on both. Thanks again

@Henry-xh8ec I believe I have read others saying it's the other way around but who knows for sure...

Its not really the gears loosening the handle at least on my experience, its just the knob/paddles that get loose. I have a saltist mq 6k i use for snook and tarpon, have hooked over 100lb tarpon and my gears are fine still. But the knob is a big wiggly, thats my only issue
@kaeeroyal31243 ай бұрын
I bought 2 fuego, and after one use. The gears already feels loose on the handle and my daiwa bg felt the same after one use. I've cause alot of fish with my vanford and it's still holding up the same

Thanks for the review, I cast a lot and i mean a lot. I have a bunch of reels sitting in garage that need bail springs. I broke 2 Pflugers in one season 2 years ago. Im not a professional, but fish more then anybody i know when the season comes around. Before work, after work, all weekend out of the kayak. Im probably 700-1200 casts a day conservatively on a weekend Saturday. I need a light reel that will hold up to abuse, non stop casting and catching fish. My special order st Croix rod weights 4.2 ounces. I blew up my diawa last year. Stripped gears, guess i caught too many fish. Lol makes me mad i paid almost 200 dollars for that reel. Looking hard at the Vanford. Ill probably buy some extra bail springs though. I will put it to the test, with Smallmouth, Pike, Gar, Wipers and saugeye. Have a good one 👍

I have a Shimano Vanford 3000 and a Daiwa Kage LT 2500 for my smaller setups Both reels are great and smooth. When I was stationed in Maryland, I was really surprised when my Vanford 3k held up super well against 35 lbs cownose rays in the bay when I accidentally snagged them (shore fishing). I was able to catch up to 25”-30” striped bass around 5-8lbers and with NO issues I was looking into getting the Daiwa Ballistic because my Kage 2500 was surprisingly smoother than my Vanford and was able to pull in 20” fish easily too. It was a bit harder to feel in fish that were around 25”. Great video and I’ll probably end up getting a Ballistic in 3k!

Do you have any experience with the luvias LT vs the kage LT?

Great video - I just received a Vanford and am impressed by the smoothness and weight for sure. My handle feels like there is too much play and after inspecting the long screw in the handle which connects to the reel body seems to be slightly loose and I can wiggle it. This then makes the whole handle feel like there is some play in it when connected to the reel. Does your reel have a similarly loose screw or if my handle perhaps defective? Thanks

I'll double check but I don't believe I had any play

Thank you for the feedback. It's always good to hear from someone that has put one of the models to work also. My Vanford is still kicking. It's pulled in some nice wipers and walleye without issue. Which seems good for a 2500 series.

I have the same Vanford 2500. Use it regularly to catch 8-11 lb redfish in the Texas marshes. If you caught redfish you would know they fight like crazy. No issues with the Vanford. Used it about 50 times a year for 4 years. I throw lures into the wind and almost never have a wind knot.
@Everything_Beast7 ай бұрын
Yeah I hope to get a chance at a redfish someday, I'm not far from Texas. I've caught some pretty good size Wipers on it with no issues yet. Idk how Wipers compare to redfish but they are some fighters also.

There both good reel manufacturers, but i prefer shimano. The aftersales services of shimano are better in my country. My Caldia made a really strange grinding noise after a year. It took them 3 months to return it and after a week the noise returned. I got my vanquish serviced and got it back in 3 days. When you have issues, you want a company to help you out. Shimano is way batter at that departement.

What about Shimano Vanford and Daiwa Luvias FC LT in 2500S size? I`d like to do some trout fishing and also use it with gamakatsu hana S610UL for offshore jigging for smaller species. Which one would you choose? How do they compare with each other?

I'm not familiar with that Daiwa model to be honest. I'll do some research and let you know.

Compare Vanford to Daiwa Luvias LT. I’ve bad experience with Curado and Stradic Ci4. Line roller went out on me after two months. After a year is not smooth anymore. All of my Daiwas are rock solid. Tatula , Lexa, Coastal and Zillion. Daiwa CRBB bearing is the best I have across. No I am not a fan boy. I also have Aldebaran BFS reel also. Stay away from cheap Shimano reels.

Shimano: Plastic main gear, bad line roller ($37). The smoothness is gone after one year for me. Peoples will tell you less line twist. Bull crap! Daiwa: Aluminum main gear, more durable. It will be smoother once break in. In fact Tatula is even better than Vanford. Yes, I owned these reels.

I'd have to agree, I'd go with the daiwa

@@timleng4404M Dude, Shimano have Brass Main gear and Treated Aluminum Drive Gear,you are miss informative.And Titanium bail. And it uses locomotive worm shaft.Daiwa is way behind. What you showed here is the main shaft with a plastic that the drag clicker runs onto,it doesn’t have to be metal,it has no other purpose.Please inform yourself before making such statements.All the best!

@@tavi4400 The main gear on Stradic Ci4 and Vanford is plastic. The worm gear is brass. I can tell the difference between metal and plastic. Do you even have one of this reels? If so, please open one up and see for yourself. The line roller issue is all over KZbin. You can learn a lot from a dummy.
