My son passed away Friday 8/5/22 on his motorcycle and as I lay here passing the time thinking of him this song comes across my feed. I’m an old man and didn’t know who shinedown was until today. My husband of 23 yrs passed away 1 1/2 yrs ago n loved the original version of this song, so at his funeral we BLASTED it as his casket was taken out to the hearse...he was the baby boy of 5, 6th out of 7 kids total, n my man WAS a simple man, we live in the country, he did tree work all his life, loved camping n anything outdoors, we had what we needed n were happy as long as we had each other...we have a 26 yr old daughter n a 10 yr old son who are more into the "music" of their generation...you know the kind, as long as it rhymes it's on the radio... I recently heard this version n it BLEW ME AWAY!!! So needless to say, when my son gets back from visiting my in-laws in Texas, THIS is the one n only version I'll be playing for him from now on!!! Love n miss you with all my heart n soul babe, n I'm trying to raise him to be a simple man, just like his daddy, n I hope we're all making you proud.... 💞💔 J.L
@phyllismiller50614 жыл бұрын
@M&M PRIME thank you so much...I never knew there was a pain like this, a crippling earth shattering settled down into my bones kind, n the only thing that saved me from suicide is our son, who had just turned 9 at the time, n daughter, his from another but love her like mine... I'm trying my best to raise him to be a simple man just like my husband, but it is so hard with all these kids thinking they NEED the latest I phone, X-Box, virtual reality, n other things pushed on kids these days n parents ( I do unfortunately) are feeling like shitty parents if they can't, don't or won't get their kids these things so they don't get made fun of or bullied for not having these things!! I TRY telling him that he doesn't NEED to have all that crap, THAT'S not what life is about... it's about loving n appreciating what you DO have, standing up for others n yourself, n knowing, feeling, n Believing that he's just as good as the other kids whether he has those things or not!! Yeah I've gotten him a few of the things that's pushed on kids (really the parents cause they're the ones buying the stuff) but I don't get them cause I think we need to ”Keep up with the Joneses", or to impress a bunch of 10 yr olds, n lots of times I've told him No, then waited a few weeks or months to get it, cause my ass don't need to impress NOBODY! Nothing's worse than seeing your child hurt, sad, sick or disappointed, but he needs to know it's all just stuff, none of it really matters....what does matter is how much we love each other n how many hugs, kisses n I Love You's I can give him/get from him from the time he gets off the bus until he goes to bed every single day.... That's the kind of simple man I'm trying to send out into the world in a few years....sorry I rambled on 🤐

Dont ever let anyone tell you that you cant do anything or that something is to difficult to achieve. Set yourself a goal, no matter how big or small it is, and fight like hell until you achieve it. Even though you guys may have ended on a bad note, that doesnt mean that hes not proud of you. I hope you achieve many things in your lifetime and I'm praying for you💚

My dear son died in our home on the floor. He was an addict. For 8 years 24 hours a day I did everything I could to pull him from this life. Before his addiction we were inseparable. We did everything together he was my best friend. Never for a moment did I believe his life would end this way. We raised him to love our family to help others to understand rite from wrong and to learn from mistakes. My heart is completely broke my life will never be the same. I'd take 10 years off my life to hug him one last time. I've learned so much most importantly I've learned life is fragile, we are not promised tomorrow. We go to sleep at night and just assume tomorrow will be the same or better that the sun will rise. But please believe me our life and world can be a place we don't understand or recognize in an instant. My son dies every day and I pray no one will ever experience the pain, emptiness, and hurt we have. Be grateful every day with humility and thankfulness God bless

Tku deeply for your kind words. The horrible thing is our church of 20 years completely turned their back on us. Our pastor never called sent a note nothing. We had no where for his memorial. No one to offer spiritual guidance no one to hold our hand and pray with us. I have yet to find it in my heart to forgive him. I know what Jesus says and try to live for Him but I have such a hardened heart against this man
