IMO, that was FANTASTIC. I have seen about 90% of your videos - and I liked every one. But this one was amazing. And I REALLY liked that white shirt/black shirt touch. I believe that every person that is thinking about working on a cruise ship should watch this video. If they are only going to watch one of your videos (and I thought they all were good+) - THIS is THE one they HAVE to watch. Thank you.

Hi there! I’m about to go to cruise training Sunday for the pride of America in Hawaii. My first time! I’m excited. I will be starting as a restaurant steward. Hopefully I can move up soon! Itinerary is all Hawaii, but I plan to save most of my money and on the off times in between contracts I plan to use that money to travel! Hopefully the food will be more American in the crew mess since it’s in America lol.. we will see. My passion is to travel, meet new people, and have fun. Work hard play hard! Maybe even sometime change ships! Would love to see the diversity and samples of the world! So fulfilling!

This is so informative thank you so much. I am an American too and my first contract will most likely start in a couple months for hairdressing. From my own information packets I've gotten from my company, I'll be making a bit over 1 thousand dollars less a month working on a ship. However, considering rent in california costs me 1k, food 120$, car expenses 150$, utilities 200 a month.... It evens out- although the hours will be intense in that evening out. Give and take! Either way- It'll always look good on a resume I believe. Thank you again for this video, and I read you are in Charlotte NC in your description, glad you are away from the coast. Hope you and your family friends and neighbors are safe after florence! Best wishes!!

Great video....goes to show everyone their hobby can be their career and they can expand on their hobby or interest I should say...watched a few of your videos and you do make great points...remember outside the USA the work attitude is different than here at home..... Going on my first cruise on NCL next month Oct 2018....thanks on the money exchange thought too....tipping the non tipped folks will be rewarding more so than tipping the food servers...planning to take an extra $50.00 in singles just to make non tipped employees have a nice day...after all the entire staff together makes me the passenger have a great time....not planning to drink too much myself...I want to remember the trip it cost enough to begin with for me.....I retired from the Country Clubs / Hotels.....and acquired the top tip slot at the time...took a few years but like any job or career... If you put in enough time the money will follow...and look here I am about to pack for my first cruise on the NCL Getaway 7 days.....again thanks for your point of view...much enjoyed it.....good luck in all you do....bet you would never give up your cruise ship experience tho right?.....be safe....every job has its perks as well as down sides too....

I am crew in an officer position. Your daily shipboard grats get divided up among the non officer crew except those services that not every passenger uses i.e. spa, salon, child recreation etc. So if you get your hair cut, tip the hairdresser. A lot of non officer crew want to be cabin stewards or wait staff because they get a lot of tips because of the personal service. Best scenario for a cabin steward are 7 night cruises. If they clean 15 cabins and get tipped average $15 they are making $225 USD a week extra.

Hey Sean! 👋 I wanted to ask you a few things if you didn't mind, just because I don't really have anyone else to ask :'D My biggest dream is probably working in a cruise ship, I don't really care about in which position or job would I make it. But the thing is I'd prefer to do it as "room assistant", you know, the one who brings food from the kitchens to the cabins and provide service for the customers in everything they need, but the thing is, I've been researching about it and web pages usually mix this job with cleaning and housekeeping activities in general. Once I apply for the companies, how can I tell them that I am not applying for a cleaning job , but for an attendant one? I don't really know the "technical" word that I should be using to tell them about this, I thought it was "cabin steward", but while looking for job opportunities i would always read in the job description that one of my functions would be the room cleaning. Is this even possible to happen or there is just strictly not a chance for someone to get a room attending job without having to clean those rooms? Oh, and also, I didn't mention that I'm still 16 years old but planning to do this in a few years. Is there something that I actually need to study for this job?? Maybe the STCW certificates? Or something else? Because job descriptions usually don't include them as a requirement, but the only thing they do require is experience. Hope I get a repply from you bro, I really liked all of your videos! See ya!! :D
@CoffeeWithSean5 жыл бұрын
Mario Serna León It sounds like you’re talking about a Room Service Attendant job. This is like a hybrid between cabin steward and restaurant waiter. To be honest, this position may not be on all cruise lines or on all the ships in a cruise line. I would bet that job is on the biggest ships in a fleet. You could also look for concierge jobs, but those positions tend to be for more experienced crew member because the high paying guests in the big suites get a concierge team. Yo may have to wait until you’re 21 before you can get a job in a cruise ship, but I would look for a position doing exactly what you are describing at a hotel where you live. The nicer hotel the better. Having experience that exactly represents what job you apply for on a cruise will work wonders. Also look for any experience in any customer service capacity. It all helps. Good luck!
@burningblue12543 жыл бұрын
By the first contract most crew know whether its for them or not. In some cases they quit enroute or get fired for poor work performance and I remember one cruise director junior staff was showing up late for his shift intoxicated. I find if a crew member lasts 3 contracts they tend to stay. I started off as a junior assistant purser but got promoted quickly because I had experience with a lodge and I am a CPA. There is no life like it my friends! As a 3 stripe officer I have my own cabin and can eat in the buffet so life on ship is better.

You absolutely do not have to drink. But most do and if you do not go to crew car you really will have only your cabin to hang in at night. And since you’ll have a roommate you won’t have any alone time in there. I think you should Try it for one contract. However you will have no privacy and unfortunately if you do not at least go to crew bar, you may find it difficult to develop strong relationships. But it is still worth a chance. You may find it pulls you out of your shell and you become an entire new person!

I am a cruiser and hope you can answer a question for me. Now that the cruise lines have gone to adding tips to the room at the end of the cruise, how much of that money, if any, actually go to the crew? Do the room stews, wait staff, etc. get a base pay plus money from gratuities that are added at the end of a guest stay?
@CoffeeWithSean5 жыл бұрын
Tina Ambrose unfortunately I don’t know the exact amounts that are distributed to each position. However, I paid my gratuities upfront on my personal cruise last year and I still left cash for specifically my room steward. Mainly because of you same question. I wanted to make sure my room steward got what he deserved
@burningblue12543 жыл бұрын
@@CoffeeWithSean I am a crew officer. I am the Passenger Services Director (Chief Purser). The shipboard grats are what was collected on ship or at time of booking by the passengers to non officer crew. The only ones not getting grats are those departments not used by all guests, i.e. salon, spa, child rec.staff and those who work on the ship but are not crew, gift shop, art auction etc. If you left cash for your cabin steward or wait staff make sure you hand it to them directly to make sure no one else kept it.
