Honestly, I'm pretty sure Layne would be watching this thinking "Thank fuck they got someone good enough to do it properly". Duval's a really good vocalist. Fans will have all kinds of opinions about all kinds of imaginary bullshit, musicians generally have a much clearer view of things; a side effect of actually making music and playing instruments/vocals. It's rare to find actual musicians (which Layne was) shitting on people for arbitrary crap when it comes to music, they just listen to what they can do. Duval sounds awesome and does the music the justice it deserves. I'd have a really hard time believing that Layne wouldn't have instantly seen that. Yeah, I'm pretty sure that he'd have approved.

You know, the longer out from Layne’s death we get, the more I like DuVall. Sure, it’s not the same AIC, but Cantrell always has been the heart and soul of that band. Layne was the best rock and roll singer we’ve ever had in my opinion. Nobody has ever sounded anything like him. But it’s been a long time, AIC is still putting out solid grunge tunes. When Layne first died, I swore I was done with AIC, but over time, I’ve bought every album they’ve made and for the last 2 years I’ve been looking for a concert around Syracuse ny. I will be going. Renzokuken Leneyoyo He is a legend and a lot of people know that but he’s still underrated, he’s rarely put on top guitarist lists and when he is it’s usually far down in the list. Ppl who’re really into that type of music obviously know Jerry is one of the best rock musicians ever but I’d still say he’s slightly underrated
@justinhayes21944 жыл бұрын
Nope, far from underrated...

I didnt like Duvall at first. Simply because he isnt Layne Staley. But he deserves credit and i think Layne would approve. Just my 2 cents.

@HellOWorld precisely, I'm just beyond happy Alice In Chains is still around and still touring and writing new music, William doesn't, and doesn't want to for that matter, replace Layne, in music the word "replace" gets used too often and I hate it, it sounds wrong, he is carrying the candle that Layne lit and is helping cement the memory and legacy of Layne Staley and the music of Alice In Chains, in fact, lets say, for arguments sake, there was a heaven, and Layne was up there right now watching Will and the band, he would be beyond happy to see someone doing what he is no longer able to do, to know he is remembered and missed and the music he helped write is still loved, if William was at that original rehearsal when Layne saw all the horrible singers audition for AIC, honestly, he more than likely would have said, you don't need me, there is your singer, he is amazing
@JR10_RR5 жыл бұрын
Will is an addition to Alice in Chains -- not a replacement. Plus, he brings a solid guitar as well for live shows. Glad he's a part of the band and they're able to soldier on.

CB Salar I 💯 agree with you.. he’s definitely grown on me.. it’s totally obvious that he’s a fan because he doesn’t try to emulate Layne, but instead Honors him.. I like him a lot 😊👌

Ya know, for years I've kind of dismissed the new vocalist.. cause no one can replace Layne, but damnit, I gotta give it to the guy for being as talented as he is and getting on with the band. That's a huge honor. I'd imagine he is as big a fan of the songs as we all are. Congratulations brother. RIP DIME, VINNIE and LAYNE
@renzokukenleneyoyo5226 жыл бұрын
Man Will has always said, he is not here to replace Layne, as no one can, he says he is just a fan living the ultimate dream. I took them with an open mind since I hear the first leaks of this "new" AiC and have seen them now on their 3 album tours. To a certain extent, thanks to Will's talent and love for the band and the songs we still get Jerry, Sean and Mike here with us doing what they, and we, love so much which is Alice in Chains music!

Ive been listening to AIC for around 30 years. There will never be another voice like Layne's, but this is pretty damn good. One other thing; every time I hear Layne sing this, especially the MTV Unplugged version, I can't help but cry because you know these lyrics come from a dark, lost, tortured soul. RIP Layne. ALWAYS REMEMBER.
@adamsmith39962 жыл бұрын
I totally agree brother. Im a musician and have struggled with addiction most of my life. I wouldn't wish it on anyone! Real music in my opinion has to come from somewhere. Its pure and true. And its not easy to bear your soul on stage to thousands of people. Just like Eddie singing black. God bless and take care brother.

It gives me hope and lifts me up to see thousands of like minded people in live concert venues feeling like I feel when I listen to certain songs like this one. I live in a town where nobody seems to give a damn or appreciate anything. Makes me feel even more isolated. I think to myself am I the only one that gets this? Maybe it’s just me. Maybe I’m just crazy, weird, psycho. All things I’ve been called. Then I go to a concert and see thousands of people enjoying it and I literally get kinda emotional and in that moment don’t feel alone and it gives me the strength to go on. The world would be so much a better place if everyone used blessings like music to unite!!!!

Brian Kemper I don't for one second want to take away from the song at hand, but look up The Darkness Within by Machine Head, if you can find the version with the spoken word at the beginning, it talks about exactly what you are talking about.
