Jesus isnt a hard counter... Jesus died and only came back to life for a few hours. Lazarus was brought back from the dead and lived for the next hundred years. Also in castlevania it isnt christianity or religion that causes the damage its called True Faith. Its basically a strong enough will in your faith that grants you minor boons or miracles. Castlevania's church is evil so they lead the flock to evil thats why it only people like the belmonts can use holy symbols but commoners cant. The anime shows this. The fire happy bishop is killed in a church while the basic priest is able to make potent holy water. Basically True Faith makes a cross a weapon against vampires when otherwise its just a stick. Richter could make rain holy water and cast minor miracles but im fairly sure he never mentions god once (konami has a problem with depicting real world religious matters so thats probably more likely)

Ok. I don't know if they change it in the OVA, but in the manga its kinda cool how Alucard became a vampire. He looses a massive battle and is about to be beheaded when the blood of his slaughtered soldiers comes to him. It says: "Drink our blood, take our hatered into yourself and give us vengeance o lord. Kill the Ottoman dogs!" And he does. Alucard doesn't just drink the blood of his victims, he drinks their very souls.
