Yeah, but they can do the "gotcha" on the emissions - since this car can technically go 13 km on the electric only that's 13% less emissions per 100 km. The weird thing for me is that they didn't have to make it like this. They actually could've retained the V8 or even used one of their brilliant 6-cylinders. In some other video on this car, one of the guys from Mercedes says that they could've stuck with the old formula, but chose to go down this route because smaller engines and electrification is the future. It seems to me like they came up with this concept in a bubble where they all agreed on something that just isn't true. People don't want complicated electrified power-at-all-cost cars. Not in a C63. Just because some people find the acceleration figures and power outputs of electric cars impressive or exciting, they decided that C63 costumers want that. Mercedes missed the mark completely with this, in my opinion.

But I could not care less because every time I drive it I can’t get the smile of my face. And of course the sound? I mean it’s so raw and unfiltered. It’s brutal. This new C63 will be the downfall for AMG. You don’t quite know it yet but we will all look back and say because of the downsize, the character of the car, it’s soul will be lost. Very interesting review. The Mercedes cars in general, are way out of my purchasing realm. The engineering in the car itself seems mind boggling. The power achieved from a 2.0 litre four cylinder engine is crazy and then add the electric motor boost to that is impressive to say the least. I’m in agreement with you Tim, as far as the sound of an eight cylinder raucous V8 and the engine under hard acceleration and the exhaust note, are really hard to say goodbye to. Speakers trying to enhance the sound won’t cut it as if you’re going to the theatre with surround sound by THX. I like the car’s appearance though with the satin exterior finish. I have yet to see _ANYONE_ taken a liking towards the C63S ePerformance. I guess AMG really ballsed it up on this one...

"I don't know how to put it into words" As Harry Enfield would say, "OI - AMG! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

More efficient, quieter and even more powerful, seems like a win-win-win to me, what's controversial about that?
@supremeetnel7707 Жыл бұрын
“efficient and quite” in a sentence with c63 are you crazy.
@freddiejones4598 Жыл бұрын
What’s controversial? Amgs always handled poorly, now with an extra 400kg it will handle like shit, that power isn’t available all the time so you could end up with 2.1 ton 4 cylinder car, doesn’t look great, cheap plastic interior..

I won’t be selling my 2012 C63 AMG just yet! Love the tech….not the engine!

What a shame... 4 cylinders in a c63 :/ great review !

Tbh what’s the incentive to buy an AMG now? The V8 was their selling point.

As we all know, horsepower numbers alone are a part of the driving experience. The auditory and manic characteristics of high strung, high revving N/A powerpkants cannot be matched. Most would take a slightly slower car with more character than a faster one with the soul of a vacuum cleaner. However, a 2 litre turbo motor pushing 470 from the factory is commendable. No doubt its quick car.

Need to stop pretending and cease calling it a c63. It hasn’t been one for a while. Call it a c20 hybrid

I completely understand the opinion that this is the wrong move by AMG to try something so different for the new C63. It’s unfortunate for the W206 that it’s predecessors have become so iconic and garnered such a following. No matter how good it goes onto become, it’ll always be trial by fire. However, there will be people who like this car and let us not slam them as “non-enthusiasts” and shun them. Everyone in this community is different and are entitled to their preferences. The fact they even bother to read and learn more about this car means they are enthusiastic about high performance.

So they should have went with a higher output 3.0 turbo I6 after all what's the point of engineering the I6 if they didn't plan on a high performance version?

Engine may be controversial for some, but the looks I think most people can agree on. Looks really good this year

It looks so awkward because the front is wide but the rear is slim wtf Mercedes...

I can’t unsee the gap on the back of the steering wheel. I imagine it’s to allow the horn room to function, but looks like they forgot to add a piece of trim.

I dont really mind the 4 cylinder, I guess it is inevitable, but it's the not-wide rear for me..

I have to agree with you Tim, it seems like AMG has dropped the ball on this car, maybe not in the engineering (it's deeply impressive) but in desirability. Also it's too damn heavy. If cars want to get more efficient as the manufacturers say they want then they have to lose more weight and get smaller
@HJW018 Жыл бұрын
It's a car that meets the regulatory requirements, but it's not the car that it could be. It's a car that's built out of necessity as opposed to one out of passion.
@bethelmadida9513 Жыл бұрын
How maintaining this would be hard, for such performance you can hear the small engine working so hard I doubt it would keep up with the demand of an amg driver. Then the tech when it goes wrong I can't even imagine the bill I genuinely believe a 3.0 6 cylinder from the previous c43 would've been the better downsize and a faster car that handles the compromise better

Everyone crying about the I4 engine... and I do understand it, but this engine is an engineering masterpiece. 476hp for a 2 liter engine, that's almost 240hp per liter.

If you go EV or Hybrid, I would only Lease so you are not stuck with expensive repairs. Do not purchase
@LarryHatch Жыл бұрын
Wish I could remember the guy who predicted that "tiny, cheap, crap ICE engines will be added to EV motors to generate big profits". This seems just that same formula. The E-ray is getting heat but at least it has a legit V8 powerplant as the base. I cannot ever see the Patina Collection Museum importing one from Europe in 20 years for their displays. It lacks the charm and gravitas of an AMG.
