When I was young, we lived on Maunalani Heights, and I attended the old Queen Liliʻuokalani school in Kaimuki. I always thought of the eastern coast (where you lived) as being such a very long trip from home, and I recall taking a nap along the way. Then, when Sea Life Park was opened, I was always excited to go there. For some reason I felt the park meant we were suddenly big-time modern. How I long to return. I want to thank you for this wonderfully entertaining sharing of your DNA findings. It is so refreshing to hear people who do not bemoan their Caucasian/European ancestry. Also, I see where a commenter questioned the uniqueness of the Puerto Rican ancestry. If I am correct, Puerto Ricans have a greater percentage of Taíno and Guanche combined DNA than any other peoples. Absolutely fascinating findings!

Loved that. I was born in Britain but so mixed. I have Asian, African, European Jewish, Scandinavian, British, Italian, Spanish I did Ancestry but I want to do this one. I identify as Jamaican because that’s where all my grandparents were born descending from Black, Asian and White backgrounds but were born in Jamaica. So funny. I wonder what Trump’s would say? I managed to trace one family line to 1550 on the Jewish side. So cool because with slavery in the Caribbean a lot of records were lost but with so many people connecting this way we collectively grew our family trees. I have slave owners, slaves and Indian indentured workers (people who migrated for work on plantations after slavery ended) in my bloodline. It’s a tough one to reconcile...to have the oppressors and oppressed in your tree...but I think it’s common.

@hoodhippie34044 жыл бұрын
@Nanjimoy Al Kursi You're forgetting that the Spanish raped and enslaved the Tainos. The Taino were considered extinct 30 years after European contact meaning there are no FULL blooded Tainos 30 years after European contact. In those 30 years the Taino that were enslaved mixed with the African slaves and Europeans leaving behind a mixed offspring that survived. This explains why modern day Dominicans, Puerto Ricans, and Cubans have small amounts of Taino DNA obviously percentages vary from person to person. According to some people in the islands some Taino managed to escape deep into the mountains or inland where the Spaniards couldn't get them and existed long after the supposed extinction. But by now have probably mixed in with everyone else. Remember these historical facts were recorded by the Spaniards so they wouldn't know if some lived in the mountains or not since it was out of their reach (not saying this is true). At the time of European contact there were an estimated 4-6 million Taino across the greater antilles. The Spaniards declared them extinct after 90% of their population was either wiped out by disease or killed leaving the last 10% unaccounted for.
@SECERETSONG4 жыл бұрын
@@405boy4 if they were "killed off", there would be very little to no trace of Taino dna in today's Puerto Ricans. Out of the Caribbean islands, including Spanish-speaking Caribbean, Puerto Ricand have the highest percentage of Taino dna with and average of 10-20 percent. While many pure natives were killed, there was also lots of intermixing which explains the "mix".

There are Jewish in every race group and they seem to have a certain marker so it's important to point it out but you are right, it's not a race. There are Jewish people who have done the test and it comes back as Ashkenazi Jewish (end of the story) which frustrates them because they want to know more about their heritage. "Living dna" gives Jewish people more info on that.
