With no MPG gauge, exactly how efficient is a Defender 90 in real-world conditions? I whip out my nozzle to put one to the test!

I'm only a little surprised that the MPG is that low from standard figures, I would have thought you'd be getting about 27-28mpg out of it. td5 90 is rated at 28mpg combined and some of them do 30+. Not got figures for tdi's unfortunately...

I like my Defender and really don't care about mpg.

I respect the Land Rover as a British icon but other than that I think they're awful today. The fact that it's mpg is actually worse than a Cerbera just finishes any desire off. Talk to ex-servicemen about their views on Land Rovers and I guarantee you'll get a LOT of swearing and negative points, I doubt you'll get a single positive.

ex service and own 2 defenders i know lots of ex service who own them they were shit in afgan because they were tin cans

@@wingding028 that wasn't really the Defenders fault though, they just didn't stand a chance against huge explosions (they were built for Northern Ireland type situations weren't they?) Our troops needed purposely designed, V shaped hulls and thicker armour etc to be safe. But I'd heard a lot of ex servicemen hate Defenders in general through their use of them in NI and other places. Bit like me hating Transits through my time behind the wheel.

@@davekennedy6315 they were built for small arms fire not the ieds and the likes . they were nick named coffins . ya some lads dont like them because of their time in them others like me like them because of the all round truck they are they dont drive the best but there is just something about them for me anyway
