Sir Mix-a-Lot said in an interview something like that he wasn't sure how good this song was until he sent it to the record company. They called back minutes later, saying they played it for some of their employees, and that he should get ready to make a lot of money. More than $100 million just from this song! Another great song is "O.P.P." by "Naughty by Nature."

I used to sing this song to my son when he was a newborn. I don't know why, but at 2am, every popular song from junior high comes roaring back with utter clarity. He performed it for his kindergarten classmates. That was a fun phone call from his teacher. She found it hilarious!

The "Me so horny" line comes from a line from the Viet Nam movie, Full Metal Jacket, a prostitute enticing American soliders. The line was also famously used in a song by 2 Live Crew called Me So Horney. I think Mix A Lot was referencing the song, not the movie

Other great songs by Sir Mix-A-Lot are Buttermilk Biscuits, My Hoopty, and My Posse's on Broadway. He's from Seattle, which during the late 80s, wasn't a big rap nursery. But his songs are good, catchy, and funny, so they really became a favorite at that time. Great memories. Yes, Niki snagged that line from this song. "LA face with an Oakland booty." Great lyrics right there.

I was a young lad near Seattle in the 80’s. We listened to plenty of Mix A Lot for sure. LA face with an Oakland booty pre-dates baby got back by at least his previous album Seminar where he says it in “I got game” but I’m sure I’ve heard it in another song of his as well.

Back then if a girl didn't look as underweight as an addict she was considered fat. This song was practically revolutionary. It definitely boosted my self esteem as a curvy girl who was told she needed to look skeletal to be attractive Also..you HAVE to follow this up with Bubble Butt by Major Lazer. It's not nearly as iconic as this one...but based on your reaction to this one, I suspect it will be a lot of fun to see you react to it.

Exactly. You basically had to be an ironing board back then and this song went against that norm/image. I'd even say it started the shift away from an unhealthy body standard or at least contributed to the shift.

As a white guy who _always_ loved a bubble butt ever since I can remember, I was born too early. When I was in high school back in the day it drove me crazy that all the girls would think they were "fat" if they weren't flat as a board in the back. Those were tough times for men like me. Lol! It's probably why I was always so attracted to black and latina girls. I loved this song when it came out and it's nice to see more recent generations FINALLY showing round booties the appreciation they deserve. 😉

The most fun hip hop song I've ever heard. Just puts an involuntary smile on your face. So glad he made it, back in the day it'd take the party to another level. What's so funny is back then the woman in the beginning was considered big, because being thin was so in. Now she's just normal.
