Shooting a 8mm Mauser Carcano M38 TS Conversion (with 3D printed Enbloc Adapters)

I'm out here shooting a Model 38 Troop Special Carcano that was converted to 8mm Mauser post-war for the Arab export arms market. I'm trying out MVU Arms's 3D printed single shot Carcano enbloc clip adapter that makes single loading Carcanos possible and is a real convenient tool to have at your disposal if you'd like this ability.

That looks like a beast. I have an M95M which is a straight pull M95 carbine converted to 8mm Mauser, it's pretty gnarly as well, probably weighs similar to the M38 so probably pretty similar recoil.

Yeah, I imagine 8mm in an M95 probably has a similar feel. Definitely neat tho!

@@GarandGuy2553 They are neat, just wish I could find a spare extractor. Parts for them are impossible to find. I broke the extractor on mine while checking the headspace gauge, the gauge jumped forward as i went to close the bolt and SNAP, broke the unobtanium extractor as it tried to snap over the rim on he gauge. Had it welded back together and it works, but Im afraid it's super weak now so I've been afraid to even shoot it.

I know how to modify 6.5/7.35 clips with minimal changes and effort. The 5-round 8mm clips are extremely rare as very few were made and I don’t think any made their way to the US with the rifles. I used repro clips to make the 8mm Mauser clips and they work great. Cycled almost the same as the 6.5 with very few hang-ups. Polished the modifications and it runs smooth now. Very fun to shoot.

@@GarandGuy2553 I would make one but I don’t have the time currently. Here are some instructions. 1.Have a regular 6.5/7.35mm(preferably repro) clip. 2.Have a dremel with a narrow grinding bit. Preferably a burr. 3.Find the land that holds the rounds in place and guides them. 4.Find which side you want to be the top of your clip. 5.Use the dremel to grind 2-3mm off the tip of the land. 6.Test to make sure that the rounds strip easily. If required, grind 1 extra mm off the land and test to make sure it strips easily. 7.Polish with a fine grit wheel if necessary or desired. 8.Once you have gotten it to strip properly, get a hammer and place the clip with the rear facing up. 9.Carefully flatten the back of the clip to ensure the rounds won’t hang up but do not flatten the middle latch area or it will not be held in the rifle by the clip latch because it will not reach it. 10.Once done make sure the rounds move smoothly. 11.Test the clip for a final time in the rifle and you should have a functional 5-round clip. 12.Repeat if you need more than 1. Ive owned 6 Carcano rifles in 6.5mm and not once have I had a sticky bolt issue. my favorite 2 were the most used and grungy looking one with 10 notches carved into the fore end of the stock, any ideas??? do you know if the single fire printed device will also work with the 6.5 and where to get a few? Thats why I parted with all but one (beat up rifle not worth selling) as I felt if you ever loose (easy to do) your en bloc then at least you could still fire the gun which is okay as some fine rifles are single shot rifles. My suggestion is either to reload the 8mm rounds to lower pressures or find out who makes the lowest pressure rounds and stock up. These guns are a real pleasure to hunt in brush as they are short and light. the only problem Ive had was getting them to zero at less than 100 yards and finally silver soldered and later brazed a bb on top of the front sight which lowers the front to zero to a much closer woods hunting range shots. thanks for your video and looking forward to your reply.

The single file printed devices work with 6.5, 7.35, and 8mm so it’s pretty universal. I plan on shooting lighter loads but probably won’t take it hunting.

The bolt on my 8mm carcano is sticky too, just comes with the gun I guess. And all of these 8mm converted rifles are shoulder diggers 😫 maybe I'm a masochist What ammo did you use? That looked like a ppu box

I think it was 150gr PPU

I believe the sticky bolt is due to the overpressure of the 8mm cartridge.

There are reproduction clips being made. They are trash. Buy originals if you can, and reuse them. Expensive, but no hassle.

Yeah, I’ll keep my eye out for originals but haven’t come across any. Do you know who is making repros right now for 8mm Mauser Carcanos? Just out of curiosity.

@@GarandGuy2553 i dont know any the originals are by themself rare either u should make one like the german convertion so modify a 6.5 clip so can hold 5 round or 3d print one and i also search online if someone make them or sell either i find nothing

@@GarandGuy2553 because u have 2 pattern of ww2 8 mauser carcanos in a nutshell the ones with 6.5 modified clip with 5 round capacity or with a wooden block in the magazine to be single shot only idk much bout the post war italian production besides were meant for arabs country
