A brief demonstration of a 92 year old M94 Winchester carbine. BTW, I mention in the video thar I'm shooting 5 rounds, but it was actually 6. I can't count :-)

I actually own a Winchester model 94 and 3240 that is pre 1900 I looked up the serial numbers and it was made in early 1899! One of the most accurate open site free hand weapons that I have a shot 200 yd! This rifle was my great-grandfather's and I was lucky enough to get it handed down to me I've actually shot buck with this rifle, but I have found that it's hard to find low velocity ammo for these rifles these days as the Pre-K nickel steel bore of the later models take higher gas pressure I can only shoot 3240 that is rated less than 1,500 ft per second believe it or not I still use canadian-made Imperial ammunition that was manufactured in 1915 still pops still accurate amazing they built stuff years ago to last!

You are very lucky to have such a family heirloom. Fortunately it is easy to habdload mild .32-40 cartridges.

@@SwabbieSteve Mine was made in 1908. It's got a 26" octagon barrel. What I noticed right away about yours is the peep sight. Mine has the exact same peep sight. Same caliber... I wonder if there is some sort of correlation there. Just struck me as kind of odd. Were they aftermarket or was it something that could be ordered from Winchester? Did they market them more to certain calibers? IDK. Just seems odd to see two survivors with exactly the same feature like that.

@rehoboth_farm That is an original Lyman tang sight. The rifle could be ordered from the factory with it, but they were also a common aftermarket accessory. Its helps old tired eyes a lot!

You guys are infectious. Bought a 1900 M92 last month that was factory converted to 218 Bee. I am planning on.buying a Remington Fourth Model Smoot in .41 caliber too.

Hi Steve, Great info on a great firearm ! Also love the tang sight you have on it. I have a cartridge with a .32-40 H.P. head-stamp, so I guess it was loaded for the ones with the Nickel steel barrels. .32-40 and .38-55 are truly super cartridges. Thank you for posting the video.

In November 2020 I shot a nice 5 point buck with a Winchester 1894 .32-40 rifle. A really accurate round that did the job just fine. I used handloads of mine with 170 grain JSP.

I have a 94 in 32-40. I think what they called the John Wayne round. I've got 6 boxes of ammo with a picture of JW on the front of the boxes. The serial number has it placed in the 1917 range.

Thank you for the video, but we can barely hear anything with all the gunshots. Maybe try putting on a lav mike to minimize background noise

Hi Steve I have a 1898 model 94 in 32-40 and was hoping to get more info on it and info on the ammo you load for it
@SwabbieSteve Жыл бұрын
You can get a factory history letter from the Cody Firearms Museum. This will tell you whatever info is available from the factory records. Recommend using mild loads as specified in the Lyman cast bullet handbook.

Nice video 👍. I have a Marlin 1893 in 32-40 and love the cartridge. I've read that, as you say, the 94 wasn't chambered in 30-30 until 1895. My brother owns what I believe is an original Winchester 1894 that is chambered in 30-30... but the serial number 14, if I remember correctly. 30wcf is stamped on the nickel steel barrel, so I think it's original, but I'm certainly no expert!

Sounds original to about 1895. Nice piece!

@@SwabbieSteve it must have been one of the very first 30-30's I suppose... 😁

32-40 is pressure rated to 30000 CUP this translates to about 27000 PSI. The 30-30 is rated to 40000 PSI..The 32-40 can be loaded to comparable velocity as 30-30 while staying within the rated pressure. This was proven by Accurate when they pressure tested all their loads for their #1 loading manual.....What will happen though is that fine accuracy will start dropping off after about 1500 fps....
