*Check out my custom revolver boxes linked below*.
This video features an 1851 navy sheriffs model replica by Armi San Marcos. Overall impressions of the shorter barrel length is good, it handles well and with lower charges it still packs a punch. Thanks for watching!

Well done Black Powder Shooter 44! That is one handsome revolver with a much needed taller front sight. Yes indeed whoever put that front sight on , did an outstanding job! Taller front sights are needed on all Colt open top percussion revolvers. As well as deepening, enlargement of the Rear Hammer Sight. Such modifications of adding taller front sights & deepening, opening up rear Hammer sights are needed In order to acheive point of Aim accuracy especially with use of conical bullets such as my Universal Bullets. In all open top Colt percussion revolvers. It has been said that Samuel Colt himself had taller front sights on his own personal carry revolvers. The use of a "Slix Hand" , does greatly help in field with loading of revolvers with shorter leangth loading levers. Keep up the good work- Videos coming. Safe Journeys and Best Wishes!

Nice looking cases you made! I watch you shoot and notice you got a pretty steady hand. I used to have a steady hand but that was quit a few moons ago, now I put an old refrigerator about 10 paces And I'm lucky to hit the door! Well...maybe not quite that bad..... Enjoy your down to earth, no BS videos!

With that dove tailed front sight you can tap it over and set it for your windage. And with how tall it is you can file the sight down to raise your elevation. As far as some of the other stuff I would suggest shooting it historically. Projectile, powder, percussion cap. You dont need wads or grease etc. That just soaks into the powder and causes inconsistent powder charges.

Nice pistol. The shorter barrels do make them more comfortable to carry. I really like the front sight on that pistol compared to the bead or fixed blade on other models.

The front sight aftermarket job works very well with this revolver, shoots POA at 10-15 yards instead of way high.

I was looking up ASM guns like this one because I started watching a new TV show called Walker Independence and in it the lead character woman has an 1851 with the shorter barrel 5.5". You can clearly see the mfg. markings. On the right side of the barrel flat (not down lower where yours is) it is marked ASM Black Powder Only 36 Cal. Made In Italy. Pretty sure they didn't have Italian clones back in the 1800's lol. Also the short barrel as far as I know was never a factory standard offering but Colt probably did some special orders like this. I noticed yours doesn't have the "A" in ASM. If it does I couldn't see it. Interesting stuff.

Interesting that they were using an ASM in the show. This one looks like it was an aftermarket job; I think the previous owner cut down the barrel himself. Fun little revolver.

I could never quite get behind these Sheriff's models, though I am pretty sure someone, somewhere cut down their gun to that length. I still think the 7.5 inch Navy has the perfect balance.

I like both, but I will say I did enjoy shooting this gun with the shorter barrel length. The front sight helped it shot POA at 10-15 yards too, which didn't seem right for a Colt lol.

I have a brass navy with bad pitting ( from the factory casting ) in the trigger guard ( grip area) . bought it for 50.00 20 + years ago . I cut it down about 6-7 years ago . May ( Uberti London ) cut one down to 6" i do not see a brass frame as collector items And I agree the factory length is fairly well balanced .
