Shooting the Mateba 2006M - an Italian 357 revolver

(Sorry about the wind noise and unsteady camera.) The 2006M was Mateba's first production revolver to feature the 6 o'clock bore position later made famous in the company's 6 Unica semi-auto revolver and the Rhino, made by Chiappa. The gun is a double action revolver chambered in 357 Magnum. The trigger is quite good and the revolver is exceptionally accurate. They were never imported to the United States; I imported both of these myself and I believe I own two of four currently in the country. (The other two belong to a fellow Mateba collector.) It was a different revolver, Mateba Unica. Its automatic, without top side of the frame above the cylinder. Much more unique and interesting gun. If you want a look inside it, theres a video on Mark Novak channel.

Interesting cylinder swing-out mechanism. I have a Chiappa Rhino, which also uses the 6 o'clock cylinder-to-barrel alignment and it greatly reduces muzzle flip.

Very interesting to see what the real advantage of that design is, normally if you shoot a revolver its like "wham" and the muzzle points at the sky, that gun appearantly just redirects the energy and you'd point the gun on the target trough out all the 6 rounds

and they also made autorevolvers, this has 2 advantages: 1: easier to shoot and not nesscessary to cock the hammer 2:less recoil because the energy gets transfered into mechanical energy 3:as a revolver it would not be fatal if it doesn't cycle bacouse you can still cycle it by hand(other than pistols) Unfortunatly they dont produce these revolvers anymore.

The energy is being transferred into your hand horizontally. Where in a standard revolver the barrel being much higher than your hand, it naturally kicks vertically. The reason I believe it's not been widely adopted by other revolver manufacturers is its aesthetics.. It's a very much marmite looking revolver, you either love it or absolutely hate it. I love the functionality, banging out .357 magnum rounds like they are .22 longs. 😮

Yes and no. Most weapons in GITS are inspired by real life guns, but altered in some way to create the fictional versions. Togusa's revolver was certainly based on the Mateba 2006M as well as the Model 6 Unica but isn't an exact copy of either one. Just like Motoko's SMG, which is a fictionalized combination of the FN P90 and F2000.

ben raftery I just realized by the time original GITS movie released. Model 6 unica wasn't release yet. So it might draw inspiration from prototype of Model 6 unica. Togusa Motever also used 9mm. Which wasn't in any Moteba models.

The gun shoots out of the bottom of the cylinder is to get the barrel closer to your hand and make recoil easier.

Kind of depends, I guess. The 6 Unica with a 4" barrel and compensator looks cooler, I think, but it's less robust and more complicated, so there's more that can go wrong. The 2006M has a better trigger and it's simpler, so I'm less afraid of breaking it. I'd say for a shooter, the 2006M. For a collector, the 6 Unica.

The fact that the barrel is at the 6 o'clock position rather than the 12 o'clock position means that the height differential between the wrist and the line of fire is significantly less, reducing the amount of moment arm the gun produces when shooting. It should therefore make for a accurate firearm with a kinder recoil. I am surprised this idea was not put into practice earlier.

Ah Ghost In The Shell and MGS. My favorite game series(even though the revolver only shows up in V) and my all time favorite anime/the game I never got to play on PC but it looked alright. There was a ps2 game of GITS I know that for sure

I had to look it up. .38 Special is actually subsonic while .357 Magnum is supersonic. So the difference is actually quite audible. The more you know! :)

It's a bit hard fur mir datto ppl commenting here doesn't realize how great this design is. The bbl is at the bottom so that the recoil would go more backward than up. And the fact that this shooter is only using 1 hand to shot the mag vs. two hnds attest how gd this design is. As to the cyl flips upwards vs. sideways, i don't know the advantage of datto (that). Maybe flipping as the traditional way sidewise maybe mo stabler? But far as the clearance is concern to load the rounds, it doesn't give any advantage either way? The short grip i guess would reduce the torque too butto (but) is it it the cost of grip comfort? Only the man who shoots this gun can answer. ciao!

Good video, thanks for sharing. Your description is wrong tho; the revolvers you show here are clearly double/single-action (DA/SA), as you can fire by simply pulling the trigger or cocking the hammer first. It is not double-action only (DAO), or single-action only (SAO)
