Finally my SHP-9500 arrived from aliexpress :D, they sound great and i love them! But what really made it worth it is seeing how happy my mom was when she tried them, she looked so happy hearing her favorite songs on something so clear (best headphone she's ever tried was a Superlux 668b). ⌚Timestamps Build - 0:48 Comfort - 3:38 Sound Comparison - 4:43 Genre - 9:14 Amplification - 9:52 Final Word - 10:17 Grandchildren, Troll, Rap - 11:44 For gaming it's really tough to decide between them, as I personally do use all 3 interchangeably quite a bit. All 3 have very good Soundstage, but the K702's is probably the best. Still, it sometimes lacks that center image, but you'll be able to hear a lot going on regardless. As was the case with music, I do think the DEVA slightly edges the K702 in terms of resolution with gaming as well. I felt as though the game-play mechanics, environmental sounds, music, and dialogue all came to life that much more than even a K702 or 9500. Everything just seemed a tad more realistic wearing a DEVA, and I sometimes kind of felt like I was a bit more immersed in the environment - almost as if I was there in the midst. Gaming with a DEVA is something that must be experienced in order to understand what I'm saying. As good as separation is on the K702, I think the DEVA's is ever so slightly better. Again, photo finish! Lately I've been really enjoying the 9600 with Film specifically. Definitely worth a go! Talk soon!

First i want to thank you for all of this information its really help me alot and i got finally my AKG 702 , and i have already an amp / dac is creative SBX G6 , i wanted to ask you about should i put it on high or low gain ! ? because the site recommend to put it on L if my ohm is below 150 but the same time i feel like my akg 702 is sound better and louder while its on high gain ! and am worry if am gonna destory it by this or i don't get the best out of it , and another question please which setting i should pick from this filter option on the dac slow roll off - minimum phase or fast ! or slow roll off linar or fast ! and the audio quality i put it on 32bit , 48hz is that right or should i change it

That sounds good for a close back and I own master and dynamic mh65. So loving headphones but open back will be my next purchase, I don't like the style of the k02 but will see..

Nice! I didn't like the Elegia too much. I felt like it wasn't sure what type of headphone it was trying to be. Sounded fairly muffled and weird, but I'd have to demo one again to see if my impressions are the same. Heard a lot about the Phoenix but haven't really wanted to review it lol. Keep me posted on the K702 for sure. It's an incredibly pure sound man. You'll definitely find yourself going back to it time and again because of how true it comes across. Wow you put the deva first in comfort. The shp9500 is so comfortable due to zero clamping force so you really don’t feel them as all. Haven’t hard any slipping problems though

Hey man! Yeah the DEVA is actually similar to the 9500 there actually. Both sit on your head like air. It was hard to determine a winner. For me they both tend to "slip" sometimes, but I really don't care as everything else is mostly perfect. It's a minor trade-off/compromise.

Hey man I didn't have the angled pads on them but I grew out of the sound, basically. Too metallic in the treble, too mid-bassy, and mids were just okay. It's a great headphone for beginners, but you'll soon learn that there are much better options out there.

It's a bit bass light but man the articulation of the bass comes through so well. Hey man, thank you! You mean an upgrade from the K702 to something else? Hmm. Probably a Sundara but realistically, an Ananda is a true upgrade from mid-fi level. Closed backs: My favorites are the Aeon Flow Closed, K553, Oppo PM-3 (not in circulation anymore but a wonderful headphone), HD25, MDR7506, Superlux HD330, Status CB-1. For me it's harder to recommend closed backs because there aren't as many good ones like there are open headphones.

HD330 is more of a fun sound, exciting, etc. Still fairly bright, but def more of a bass head type of flavor. 9500 is very clean and clear, with quite a bit of bass roll off and a flat mid-bass. Yeah man I'm demoing them now and they're pretty incredible, especially for the price. May become my new go to. $150 is basically giving them away. Haven't compared them with the DEVA yet, but the typical sibilance you'd expect out of mid-level HIFIMAN cans isn't there which is awesome. I haven't once listened to or reached for anything else I have here for the last 3 weeks (HD600/58X/9500/K240/DEVA etc.) The treble is crisp but taut and not out of line. I think HIFIMAN improved there definitely. The sound is basically the 400s but maybe a bit more refined and not as loose. I've always loved the 400s sound and thought it was kind of the underrated one out of the bunch. The 400i was amazing but had some sibilance issues, and the Sundara was a bit too warm for me even though it's also a fantastic headphone. Also had that semi-weird mid-range slope after 1k. I probably also wouldn't spend $350 on the Sundara if I could just get a 400se at $150. Official review of these coming soon on the site/channel!

Hey man that's a loaded question but i think they all work great. As for best? Probably the DEVA as it's just a bit better of a headphone. I personally listen with the K702 most of the time, but you may not like the bass for deeper stuff. Same with the 9500. Both are fairly lean. The DEVA is going to be a bit better for all of that, plus the instrument timbre is better as well.

Hey man! 40x is way mid-bassier and just sounds bad to me. Metallic treble, recessed mid-range, etc. I used to like the headphone quite a bit, but sold it after hearing much better headphones. The fact that it's marketed as a reference can is completely laughable to me. It's a great headphone for beginners, but you'll soon find out there's way better investments for the money out there.

There are just way better options out there. CB-1 is a great example of a headphone I'd much rather have over a 40x. Pretty much dumps on it. And no, the 40x is not neutral. Not by a long shot. It's bloated in the mid-bass for sure, and metallic in the treble. Plus it's just not that comfortable over long sessions. If I were you, I'd buy the K702 and not even think twice.

9500 not really though I always use one. You don't need much more than a Go Link. K702 is really inefficient so something meatier. Still, it's not as hard to drive as people have claimed over the years. An ATOM 2 or K7 is fine. Coming out with a new 702 video so stay tuned.

Hey man! No, the Chinese model is completely fine. I think people tend to parrot what others say online without really having long term experience with the products. "Bad" tells me nothing. Where did you hear that? Seems like a forum snob who knows nothing. Contrary to popular belief, there is nothing wrong with Chinese made audio gear. In fact, (and I was thinking about this last night), stuff made in china actually holds up BETTER than a lot of other gear. I've had the K702 for over a year with no issues and I use it pretty much every day. I've dropped it a few times and it's completely fine. I would just ignore those people honestly.

nice comparison. sitting on the fence unable to decide SONY MDR7506 / AKG 240 MKii / AKG K702 / Philips SHP 9600 and you throw now DEVA into the pot :-( . Now for me in the UAE only DEVA is available locally and may be AKGs but at a much higher price than Amazon.ae (import). I listen to mostly Indian music - film tracks, sufi or traditional classical and some Western - Kenny Rogers, Lionel Richie, Carpenters etc. that i heard when a kid. Which one to choose? I own a AKG K514 - a semi open bought in 2010! working well though and no physical damage. Drive it with iFi iDSD Nano and is nice with some EQ on Foobar 2k. But the bug has bitten and need a new one.

Hey man thanks! You must be the guy who commented on the blog (since no one else would ever have a K514 lol). I didn't even know that headphone existed. Considering what you said I'd probably go for a 702. DEVA has a bit better timbre and tonality but the treble is essy. If you want to EQ the treble down, you may go for the DEVA.

AKG K514 gave away the identity :-) I had bought this HP for my wife who wanted to watch TV without disturbing our daughter when she studied. My primary setup is a DIY SE UL tube amp (Elekit TU-8200 + TU-8500 pre), Klipsch Heresy III and KEF Kube 12b sub. Needed to listen to music late night so was just trying out the HP and EPs I have. HTC Hi-Res EP bundled with HTC 10 phone triggered the quest now. K514 is a a bit shouty on it's own but it lends to EQ very well. I have EQd to zero dB down to 55Hz on Foobar EQ. The add on component "Graphic EQ" 20 band Equalizer that can go down to 20Hz drives it to distortion though Auto Levelling can help to tame it. Harman Target was too much with Lionel Richie sounding like he has sore throat. I found only one place to get the test curves for my HP - a Russian site reference-audio-analyzer.pro/en/user-report.php?id=39#gsc.tab=0 Look at the link "report for a pro" at the end of the page. Wanted a HP for use at office with my laptop for MS Teams meeting and also for phone. Logi headset given by office is a pain to use , so too Nokia headset with the phone is anemic. Actually this started my hunt for a HP even for listening to music at home. Came across KEF M500 for about USD 100 that fulfils the Hifi requirements as well as office use. Wow!!! Crystal clear sound for the MS Teams meetings and with the phone calls. And.... plugged into my DAC/AMP. It blew away my vintage K514. No EQ necessary . clear mids and thumping bass. "No one' meddles with each other :-) Treble is not sibilant at all and quite clear - enough details. Saw the FR and near flat up to 10k!! Ears are 53 years old and doubt if i can hear anything about 10k (did a rough sound test with some test signals) If you got hand on one try it. AKG K 702 may wait for some time ;-) .

I'm constantly on my toes when I have them on. In fact, I don't like wearing them at night because I always think somethings going on outside or in my apt! Highly recommended. The impedance/resistance data for the K702 is wrong. As its 62 (63.5) Ohm's with LPS of 105 (103). They won't reach optimal lv with smartphones and other things with sub pair outs (V). However they don't exactly require amp a polite done line out (2V) with 30~35 mW at 64 Ohm's is exactly what they need to get there.

Hey Lazar! The numbers are actually correct. The K702 is actually around 91 - 93dB by the milliwatt, which confuses people. The spec sheet states 105 or something, but that's by the volt. While they do require a bit of power from the amp to get going, they don't resist power too much which makes them fairly easy to drive, all things considered.

@@lazarprodanovic8373 It's easier to go by mW since that's what most companies use. I have no idea why AKG measures by the volt but it just ends up being confusing for everyone. But yeah they aren't too hard to drive. Perhaps a bit harder than an HD600 but not by much. 600's require I think 20mW, but can still work with amp/dacs providing less, surprisingly. Q1 MK II is a perfect example.

@@HomeStudioBasics I don't think they did go by V. It's quite usual and real to go by LPS dB. I mentioned 2V as a what's considered like regular line out (to amp or whatever) standard for unbalanced & twice as much for balanced. As that's exactly the minimum amount what you need to drive them properly. Most smartphones & other little things only go to 1~1.3V. So you don't exactly need something classified as an headphone amp (which goes over 2V) for it but it won't play smooth with an smartphone or iPod. For me ideal impedance (still easy enough to drive & with full separation) is a bit over 100 Ohm's 112~117 balanced (for dynamic driver's) regarding what you can get out regarding sound stage widnes, rest is up to DAC and LPS. Just my 10¢ on the topic. Best regards.

I tend to enjoy the K712 more because it has better Soundstage and no treble essiness. DEVA is still a great headphone but the treble on HIFIMAN has always annoyed me to an extent. I'm actually demoing the 712 now from a friend. Stay tuned for the review!

Hah yeah needs moar bass. 😂 Yeah man I actually want to buy a 2020 400i just to have lol. I'm pretty sure it's going to sound very similar if not identical to the original, but of course take that with a grain of salt. 600/650 vs. DEVA I have to say DEVA outclasses HD600 but I'm still not a huge fan of the somewhat essy treble. You kind of get used to it though, and it's not as big of a deal as you might think. I love the sparkled on the DEVA and how open it is. I still love the 600's though. Perhaps that would make an interesting video comparison. DEVA is more open with better Soundstage. It kind of has this very spacious quality about it. Bass wise, I think the DEVA's extension is definitely better. Maybe slightly more articulate sounding and clear. Typical of a HIFIMAN offering really. It has a really nice rumble if that makes sense. I think I will do a head to head, and throw in 2020 400i and HD650. Haven't really decided on the exact players.

@@ilidanelv HAHA! Well, then you must buy things. LOL. Nah the K702 and DEVA both have better Soundstage than the HD600 easily. HD600 with either of those would make a great compliment actually. The DEVA's Soundstage is above average, but not quite as good as the K702's. I really do love having all 3 around, as I can mix and match according to my mood. I'll put it this way, right now I have 9 headphones: K702, K612, SHP9500, 9600, HD600, DEVA, KPH30i, Sony MDR101 (technically my dad's though), Skull Candy Uproar Wireless. K612 I don't really need anymore. Good headphone but I like the 702 better. Love the 9500, but don't listen to it as much since I have 702 and DEVA. Really like the 9600 Gaming and Film as well. K702 is one that I listen to more than any of them. It just sounds right. I think the combo of excellent comfort plus non fatiguing, incredibly neutral sound is what keeps me reaching for it time and again. The hammock adjustment also makes it way easier to put on your head in less than 2 seconds. No adjustment needed. It also works really well for everything: Gaming, Film, Music, Reference, you name it. Most genres are going to sound really good. It is a tad bass light, but most people know that already going in. Yeah those power specs seem a bit suspect. It actually really threw me off because before I looked up anything, I had the dial on the L30 at about 1-2 'o clock no gain, and the iFi Zen CAN Signature on 11 with no gain to achieve the same volume. Thing is, the L30 advertises way more power soo.. not sure what that's all about. I mean 3,500mW into 16 Ohms is A LOT. I'm not sure if the numbers are completely accurate. Love the E30/L30 combo though. Listening now actually with a DEVA.

@@HomeStudioBasics I finally got my dragon fly red..... awesome and awesome..... I ordered L30 on singles day for 100 bucks... I still liked the L30 though ignoring the power, but it’s nice.... I ll keep it...as you said... dragonfly red + AKG k702 is awesome pair.... soundstage widened.... I also tried using L30 paired with dragon fly... I see some difference..... sound turns out more smooth..... Nxt turn is planar magnetic s.....May be next year.....thanks a lot :):)
