2:07 - "I'm responsible for putting myself out there by the way for people talking about medicos" - Petracca I'm sorry, but why is the player making the medical clearance decisions? In a workplace environment, an independent doctor has to provide you clearance to return to work. From a footy perspective, a concussion assessment is not the player's decision? Why should this be any different? Look at what happened to Fyfe. After he played on with his broken leg it took ages to recover and he's still nowhere near his peak (and will never return to that).

The medicos are either powerless or incompetent. - Punctured lung = easily detectable with a stethoscope - Broken rib = easily detectable with a physical exam (i.e. doctor pushes each individual rib to confirm swelling / acute pain) The current system fosters criminal negligence. If Petracca suffered a career-ending injury (or worse), the club and AFL are liable. Change.

Putting him back on the field could have resulted in a catastrophic outcome. Let’s just be honest. Allowing him to return to the field when his face showed the real picture was a potentially life changing decison. Thank goodness he didn’t get hit again in that area. Of course players want to play at all costs. But the cost that may have come with further damage far outweighed the decision to let him go back on the field. Everyone could see on his face and his body language just how injured he was. Thank goodness he got to hospital eventually. A major lesson must be learned here regarding protocols for major injuries. I was so worried when he returns to the field and flabbergasted. Best wishes for a speedy recovery. It will be hard for a while but your health is everything. No game of footy is worth risking it.

The only reason this gets ticked off is because there are no court cases happening based on type of negligence. I thought the AFL had evolved from the days where the biff was celebrated and players need to prove their toughness by recklessly exposing themselves to physical harm. Petracca held the second longest consecutive games streak for current players - for him to go down and writhe in pain , unable to get to his feet for minutes should have been enough for any competent medico to know his injury was more than just a bruise or cracked rib.

The real contention here surrounds the worst case scenario given the severity of his injury. Since the doctors let him back on the field and didn't put their foot down, like a concussion - what if he cops a bump the wrong way and dies? Who's liable here? What would happen if the doctors had let someone back on the field after an assessed concussion? There needs to be better accountability here
@johnkym-uo1gt7 ай бұрын
Darcy Moore driving his knee into Petracca was a dog act. There was no reason for him to raise a knee in that context. Raising a knee is a protective measure used when you are in a vulnerable position, it should not be used in a sneaky fashion in order to hurt a key player. Darcy, you are better than that, you need to make amends.

Doctors absolutely at fault…. This isn’t an ankle or hand injury…..30 second video review shows them the location and violence of the impact. Immediate suspicion of rib, spleen and lung injury should have held, and until that is ruled out it is the doctors responsibility to protect the patient. Another hit could have caused him to internally bleed out or develop tension pneumothorax resulting in his death right there on the grounds. It is morally unjustifiable to put him at such risk. Shame on them!
