A town, streets, several landmarks and even a NSW national park are named after the 19th Century Scottish colonialist.
Largely known for his business ventures, Boyd's involvement in blackbirding; slavery and trade of South Pacific Islanders, is increasingly associated with his legacy.
Ben Boyd's wealth bought prestige and power and with that, he has been honoured as the namesake of many things including the Ben Boyd National Park on the NSW South Coast.
Aboriginal Elder, BJ Cruise, a member of the Eden Land Council says the NSW National Park should be renamed to something more appropriate using local Aboriginal language.
The Point is NITV's flagship news and current affairs program, hosted by John Paul Janke and Shahni Wellington.
NITV is Australia's Indigenous television channel, a part of the SBS network.

I’m a white male from one of the very first families to settle on the Monaro/ South Coast region on my mother’s side. I feel the same way this man did when he learned of Boyd as I try and learn about my own families history. I’m sure in carving their track trying to make a their own lives that they would have destroyed he lives of the natives displaced. Im sorry and I agree all parks should get their original names or close as they can to them.

So what has 2021 got to do with 1840………Eden is a beautiful place…there is enough space for everyone ….changing a name will make no difference to the community today…we should all look after the future of Australia no dwell,on the past….there are plenty of families around the world in our past threat where not treated fairly ….slaughtered because of their race …colour of religion …and it’s still happening today….the government is to blame on aboriginal culture study ..not someone from 150 years ago …we studied …aboriginal culture in school in the 70 s .._now it’s discrimination …to call some one different….let things be and move on ….
