Definitely check out the others, you can get Escape the Dark Castle quite cheap online I believe but they’re great games

Oh that's a great question, my gut would say no since it may be trickier to pull off or get approvals for it since its a third party IP

This campaign's collector's edition would've been my first and most expensive exclusive edition of anything I've bought or backed on kickstarter, saved up the month the project was live but... Sadly i had to settle for the $1 tier. Learned 2 days to completion they didn't ship to anywhere in south America. Feels bad man

Thanks for the video. Despite Themeborne being based in the city I live in, I've not yet played any of their games, which is a bit poor, as I think they demo every year at the local games convention. I remember looking at backing escape the dark sector, but ended up passing on it. A good chunk of that was the rather weak excuse that the artwork style grated on me, and from the images I see here, they've found a softer & cleaner (albeit still monochrome) style. There was a little feeling that those prior games could be rather swingy with punitive 'luck of the draw'... though having said that, I tolerate such brutality in This War of Mine (LOL)

The artwork really is an acquired taste and while there is a ‘luck of the draw’ when it comes to the chapter cards as you can really get screwed through there being some tough cards early on, it is a fun and challenging game. For me it is one of those gateway games that I can introduce people to board gaming with, and the narrative aspect really draws them in

Thanks for the video. I think this game looks great. I have Escape the Dark Castle and love it. There’s something special about a game that can make three 40ish year old guys literally cheer when they finally win their first game, ha. I love the Last of Us as well, and so I’m probably going to end up backing this. Thanks again and keep up the good work.

Haha totally agree! You feel like you really earn a win on the incredibly rare occurrence where you do win😄 I’ve never actually played Last of Us but I’m familiar with the setting and post-apoc always gets me going 🙂

@@shouldyoubackit it’s a great game, and as you say, one of the appeals is that’s it’s nice and easy to play which can feel refreshing in a hobby that’s packed full of complicated games. The Last of Us, especially the first one, is a fantastic game. Well worth a try if you get chance 🙂

I don't have any connection with the IP having never played the original game, however when I came across this campaign I have to say I was somewhat shocked by the price point given the quality/number of components. I would have expected something like this to sell for ~45 gbp, which is in line with what they were selling a core in their previous campaign. Paying a nearly 50% premium for merely a difference in IP seems ludicrous but I am interested in Escape the dark sector which I believe they said may be available in their pledge manager so I may simply back $1 for access.

I would say definitely start with Escape the Dark Castle and Sector as opposed to this one. They’re both available at retail and great games to start with. At the end of the day this too will come to retail so if you end up really loving the series it could be something you look at at that point :)

I think you’ll enjoy it (or at least I hope you do as I’ve backed it too and would equally hope it’ll be great). In the meantime before the game arrives I’d definitely recommend checking out escape the dark castle which is their first game.

Everyone is using the easy and lacking shortcut of "this is like a "choose yout own adventure"...Just stop this repeat loop. :s No d6, no skills, stats are statics, there is not really a main labyrinthic narrative in wich choose and find the way to the end. Yes, there is something similar in the old (dark)fantasy style of the cards, you throw dice in fights (like in 10.000 other games), but that's all. The Escape the dark are truly oldies dungeon crawler with an emphase ot atmosphere and randomnes in a set of events in wich we are invited to create a satisfyingly coherent story link. Door->Monster/Trap->treasure ** repeat until boss Draw a cart->Event with monster/challenge->reward(sometimes) ** repeat until boss And no "if you go left, take X, if right, take Y" - "if you have X skill, then(...)" etc. Still, Castle is a fun atmosphere. Sector has seen a notable upgrade in the gameplay (not hard :p), i hope TloU will be the best of the three, has the art in also good for this post-apo :-)

The value doesn’t seem to be here for me. I get that it’s a popular IP, but with shipping, I’d be paying more on kickstarter for the retail version. It doesn’t help that VAT is being subsidized by all backers. The lack of gameplay videos doesn’t inspire confidence. I get that they’ve successfully kickstarted a couple previous games, but I still have to wonder why they can’t provide something so basic. It makes me feel that they rushed this launch. As a fan of TLOU, I’d like to have a board game implementation. But I may have to wait for CMON’s version to see what they’ll have ti offer.

To be honest I’m with you on the gameplay, I’m not sure if they just didn’t have capacity to produce prototypes or they don’t have all the cards finalised but even a little one round breakdown would’ve been nice, I think it would’ve really helped communicate the value of the game as opposed to breaking it down through images. But your feelings for not backing are totally valid, for me as someone who has all of Themebornes games there’s a long pre- existing relationship there whereas if this is your introduction to the company, having this price tag for a first date so to speak can be a bit too steep to quantify

Nope you can back this and have it shipped to where you are when it’s completed next year. Just check the campaign for shipping estimates. As for solo, again check out the Kickstarter campaign, it’ll play exactly the same but instead it’ll just be you controlling everyone
