Great video SS. My LCS (Michigan) will buy fractional gold at spot +1% and 1 oz. gold at spot. That being said, my purchased gold is for wealth preservation (58 y.o), and I do have fractional gold. Gold is not to be bought and sold as you will lose the premiums (In the short term) that you originally paid at the LCS. Hold onto the investment as a part of a diversified blended portfolio and you will do fine over the long term. Life is good!......

One thing to consider with fractional gold is that if you sell it the market for potential buyers is larger. You'll find more individuals that can afford to buy your 1/4 oz coin over a 1 oz coin. I personally like pre 33, gold buffalos and 20 Francs.

This assumes you have a market. Most people only have the LCS and they will give you spot . A 10th oz is a fool's purchase. I don't care what these guys say over the phone, I've seen what they pay wholesale. They are only giving you spot. Remember, for every $100 the spot of gold goes up, your 10th goes up $10. How high does gold have to go before you break even against that premium? The 10th is a way for the Bullion Dealers to take advantage of poor, desperate stupid people. That's why so many don't make a 1/4oz. They know you can't afford the full oz and want to force you into the 10th.

Since I literally just started stacking gold & don't have but a couple fractional pieces to my portfolio, it's the best option for me at this point! I really appreciate you Silver seeker breaking this down like that. Before my recent purchase of my 1/10th fractional, I ran all the numbers just as you did but I didn't come up with a chart & percentages like you showed! I however knew before purchasing that I would be paying a higher premium. Just getting started so once I get a few pieces under my belt I will most likely start saving for the whoppers! Thanks for a great video & breaking it down like that! Awesome info!

An important part of saving and investing is making it a habit. If you wouldn't actually save up for a full ounce on schedule, it may be better to regularly buy fractional gold and stick to a plan.

Gold Dimes get a lot of hate for premiums but if you buy a 1/10 gold eagle while it’s on sale and spot has dipped and then sell it 2 weeks later while prices are up, you will make a small amount of money on each piece. This is assuming you use cash or echeck to buy it.

I see the doomer's side to the argument too. In Venezuela they are shaving off bits of gold and silver to pay for needed items. I can trade with a 1/10 or a gram easier than with a 1 oz. , just as many people prefer to buy 90% Constitutional dimes and quarters in case SHTF. Also if prices increase with inflation, wouldn't the extra premium get negated by the increase in goods ? Not sure.

That's true, but the 1/10 oz AGE I bought before March 2020 were around 190 dollars and they are around 220 now. That is with almost the same spot price. People want the small stuff because that is all they can afford so the premiums go up higher over time. If gold were to shoot up in price 1oz coin will be out of reach for normal people even trying to save up. I made more money on 1/10 oz coins then I would have with 1oz coins. I'm very happy I bought fractional.

What am I missing? Doesn’t it make sense to stack gold by the oz. (lower premiums)- and stack silver for your need of fractional in the event of SHTF? In other words, if you have silver, why would you need fraction gold for SHTF smaller amount purchases?
@Scotty86doo

Diversity, think of a 1/10th gold eagle as a $100 bill in terms of USD, where a 1oz Silver Eagle is like a $10. If you walk around with a "$1000" Bill it would be alot harder to make change for it. You can also Hide the same value of gold as silver alot easier as well as only take 1/10th out at a time so your not getting robbed. Also By Diversifying your not playing all your "egg" in just 1 metal your getting benefits of both.

For a lot of people, buying 1ozT gold coins is quite a large financial investment - but it still makes sense to have some gold in a SHTF scenario, if just to limit weight. A standard 7.62mm ammo can will hold around $US 24,000 in silver at today's spot price. But it will weigh over 70 pounds. The same ammo can will hold over $US 1.3 million in gold. So - it would be possible to limit the transport weight of the SHTF stack to say 10kg (22 pounds) but still move a lot of wealth around, by mixing some gold into the stack. Buying fractional vs whole ounce coins or bars justs helps some people get into the game more easily.

I stacked 1/4th eagles when they were cheap. With their bloated premiums, I switched to Sovereigns, Britannias and Perth Mint 1/4ths. Stacking is about the acquisition of PM's at the lowest cost-per-ounce. Eagles no longer fit that criteria for me. Just my 2 cents. But if I see an Eagle for a great price - I'll grab it. I understand why people stack fractionals, as trying to save up for a big coin doesn't always work out - other stuff happens and that money disappears before you get your 1850-1900 saved up.

I love having lots of fractionals in gold eagles...but I had a source to buy 1/10 oz gold eagles at spot gold so the choice was easy. when I did buy fractionals from a coin dealer - the premiums always factored in...although I haven't bought gold coins from a coin shop in a few years...looks like premiums are pretty steep these days. the best anyone can do is develop a relationship with someone in the resale market. I started in watches back in the early 90s and that spread to gold and silver - so many relationships got me to a place that I can buy almost any gold at the spot price of the day - but that is because of years developing relationships with others - jewelers who buy and sell, etc... good way to accumulate that kind of wealth at reasonable prices.

Very interesting video… I also always assumed that the 1/10 would keep at least some of its premium…. I know it would in the public market, but perhaps not true at the LCS’s….. I also maintain that small gold is easier to sell then large silver. IE between a 1/10 oz of gold VS a 10oz bar of silver the gold would be an easier sale, again in the public market. I also wonder if we start talking about non AGE if the same holds true. A generic OZ is $1850’ish, while a generic 1/10 is $200’ish your still paying a premium but it’s much smaller.

As always, great informational video! However, there is one thing that I would like to add that I believe should take into consideration. Given the caveat that the price of gold does not spike suddenly, what about the option to flip. What I mean is that an individual could buy 10 1/10oz pieces at the higher premiums. Then, said individual could sell them at the aforementioned price point, buy the full ounce and then have the premium funds left over to invest into something else. Just some food for thought.

This gives you the ability to barter small to big. 2. If stacking for wealth protection then GOLD 1 oz. if you can. Double eagles.

I really can't afford 1 ounce gold coins at this time and I don't want to save up for 2 or 3 months to get them. I purchase 1/4 ounce coins mostly and some 1/10 depending on my budget at the time. Aside from the the barter potential of fractional gold, I believe gold spot is going to be much higher a few years from now. That would make my fractional gold even easier to purchase than 1 ounce coins. If your dealer sample is reflective of most LCSs and they are paying the same amounts for gold, it might make sense to purchase lower premium gold coins like the Britannias, the Perth Mints, and the Phiharmonics than it is to buy US Mint coins and to a lesser extent, Maple Leafs. Nevertheless, I am mostly buying Maple Leafs and Eagles because my wife is Canadian and I want her to be able to sell them easily should I exit the world before she does.

If I ever open a bullion shop, I will set a percentage of profit I want to make and buy based on the sell price minus the premium. None of that I buy for spot and sell at 40% premium like some shops are doing on silver now :(
@davidsandlin9686

I think some of it depends on the state you live in. In certain states the purchaser has to hold the silver/gold for 30 days before they can sell it. They pay spot because the predictability of the spot price isn’t certain. They may take a hit on it if gold/silver tanks or they may make out if it goes up.

i am in south eastern PA and NONE of the coin shops in my area pay spot for anything ... its all at lieast a bit above and in some cases quite a bit up ... they also charge at least as much as on line dealers but im ok with that if they are buying back with a premium ... i keep hearing the calls on this show and soooo many videos with shops that pay below spot for both gold and silver and some times high premium stuff ... rediculous ''' there are shops that pay better and might be worth traveling for

JMB pays about 11% premium on 1/10. 7% on 1/4. 5% on 1/2. 2% on 1 oz. There is the shipping costs on top though. Also it's a $1000 minimum and obviously there is a delay because of shipping and it's not anonymous.

People get fractional because it’s cheaper up front. It’s hard for some people to drop close to two grand on a coin, where as a tenth ounce is around 235 or so. It allows people to get into the gold market on a budget. I think it’s great they offer different sizes of coins and bars.

🔴 One thing that y'all might not have considered: the space you have available in your box in a private vault. If you have a small box and space is a concern, a larger coin will more efficiently fill that space, assuming you're keeping coins in capsules. So if you've got a box in the Das Safe private vault in Austria and you're paying €500 a year for it, you want to make sure you're getting your money's worth by using that space as efficiently as possible.

High quality content here Silver Seeker! The thing I noticed about the gold eagle is that it's 1/10 oz premium is almost double other 1/10 oz gold coins. SD has the 1/10 oz gold Britannia for a 14% premium today, and the Silver Britannia is at a 20% premium. No doubt 1 oz gold is the best bargain, but less expensive 1/10 oz gold is still a relative good deal for those who want to drop around $200 a month on PMs. Looking forward to seeing your next video on re-selling 1/10 eagles!

Ok hear me out "WHAT COIN SHOPS ARE REALLY PAYING FOR FRACTIONAL GOLD BARS AND COINS" would be a great follow up video! I dont think theres any on youtube and you're the best at those kinds of videos. I think the #1 complaint about bars by the gram or fractional coins is the premium but how much is retained in the full circle the smaller you get is what im most curious about

The online dealers and on eBay charge outrageous premiums over spot for all sizes. What gets me is when they claim $49 over spot but add in credit card fees, it's actually $170-$200 per oz over spot. If you sell your gold on eBay, they charge you a 13% premium, so your $2,000 ounce of gold = $1740 net, now how can you make money doing that?

I understand this calculations completely. What I don’t get is the fact that whoever wants to re-sell a specific coin, they would include a premium they have paid surely. Otherwise you would see a lot of cheap 1/10 oz of gold

Hi, Surfer. I am putting a date set together of the Type2 AGE in 1/10 oz Pr & Bu. in 2025, I will have an ounce of them. I am not stacking silver now. I am still stacking frac gold. I need 4 more Dos Pesos coins to make an ounce of gold. It takes 21 Dos Pesos coins to make an ounce of gold. I will then go for an ounce in Dos & Medios coins. I bought capsules for my Dos Pesos coins, but I took them back out and put them in a single flip. I like the looks of a pile of gold coins. *TYU*

Is funny though, I don't balk at the 15 percent (ish) premium I pay for each silver round I buy because it's only a few dollars at a time, but I cringe when I pay the premium on small denomination gold because it comes at you about 80 times faster.
