Don't disrespect David's effort. He loves these beautiful cars. Damn! So should you. Unsurpassed value for money. A mid engine, serious sports car/roadster for the lucky many thanks to Porsche's hard work on revamping production in the late 90's with help from Toyota production line engineers.The 986, an epic form of personal transport, Ferdinand and Ferry's dream car, the 550, modernised but not too much and made affordable for you. Get one while you can. Most are loved and cared for, avoid the rest. Serious "Dad" advice from a happy owner.

What about oil change? Can you get a filter over the counter or as most; if not, all exotic cars, you have to take it into the dealer..?
@OurRideLife9 жыл бұрын
gone2secondzin123 You can easily do oil changes yourself (we have a video about how to do it) and oil filters are available at stores like O'Reilly (you do often need to ask at the back counter, but our local store normally has it in stock).

Its 20 years old offcoarse its dated.thats what gives it charater.its like saying a 57 chev looks dated.by the way the original boxter 2.5 is the best and most fun out of all of them.close ratio gearbox cable accelarator non electric steering etc big difference to the newer laggy less sporty ones
@OurRideLife4 жыл бұрын
Good point and I think it is important to note that as cars age they go through phases. Often the styling looks old and then after about 30 years it starts to look classic. The Boxster has the advantage that the lines are similar to classic Porsches, so it can age better than others. Also, great point about the gear ratios. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts.

What’s the diff from RMS and IMS? I had both done and clutch cause I had a leak that I saw in my garage
@OurRideLife6 жыл бұрын
The RMS is the seal at the rear of the block that keeps the oil in. The IMS Bearing works with the intermediate shaft and turns with the engine. If you had both changed you should be in a good spot.
@themanglerman9 жыл бұрын
Great car, loved my 2002 3.2 s Tip until IMS failure destroyed engine last year with only 28k miles, TOTALLY GUTTED:o( My fault, should have taken note of all the warnings. Buy one but get the later more reliable bearing fitted asap, best £1k you'll ever spend. Got 2010 987.2 s pdk now but still would have been more than happy with the 986 s.......

does the ati problem apply to automatic transmission or just manual?

The IMS Bearing issue does apply to both automatic and manuals. Percentage wise automatics have failure less often, but there are less of them.

"parts would be more expensive than Dodge part" ?? really? now that's a surprise..
@OurRideLife10 жыл бұрын
True, but you would be suprised how many people just see cheap Porsche and don't think about repair costs. In part 2 of this video we talk more about maintenance and drive the car. We also think it is a better video, but would love some feedback about that. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qGTZoJZ9fb-WlbM
@farnum329710 жыл бұрын
I had a Boxster for 4 years, and if you do your own maintenance and shop online for quality parts it's not bad, the overall cost is the same like a normal car, because it has a low maintenance schedule from the start. And I drove it year around (winter included), 20k / year, and took it the track too.
@slogroove9 жыл бұрын
Some of these comments are appalling! Are all Boxster owners such assholes ? Maybe they are all just pissed in not being able to afford a 911. This is a guy providing good advice, free of charge, yet being interrogated as if he was on trial. I for one am grateful.

what does IMS means?
