my personal comparison with my google pixel 6a is that my xperia 5ii has better battery charging software like capping at 80% (no charging stress at all), also the splitscreen of sony is just way better. the 21/9 is also amazing, for the rest photo's are better but ofcourse the 5ii was double the price as the 6a (i just expected more from the 6a as google is such a software giant they let me a bit down with their software), mostly i think google is good in hdr and point and shoot but that is all said i guess.

I bought an Xperia XZ in 2018 for my mom, since then I have been on iPhone X-Iphone12pro and now I need to move to 15pro as it can't keep a charge, but her Xperia is going on and on, its not just different, its build quality means business.

I got my Xperia 1 IV about a year. It is the best phone i ever had tbh. Coming from Pixel devices. Taking Photos was tricky at first, but once you master it, there is no competition. It just looks stunning if you find the right settings for the environment. But if you just want to point and shoot it is not the phone for you. I like the form factory a lot. I have a big screen, can read for example the news much faster with more info cause the phone is a bit longer. I can wrap my hands around the phone easily, but i have quite big hands, about 17,5cm in lengh and 11cm in width. I can reach the top corner with my thumb but need to adjust my holdinghand for it. I use it purely with one hand tho. I only had some heating issues with the phone when i was on holiday in Croatia and Italy, but i took many photos and 4k Videos which was a good hour with 35-40 degree outside, so i dont mind that. Sometimes i have some bugs such like having KZbin Music and auto rotation activated. When unlocking the phone the app is sideways but the rest not. These are all very small things which can happen on any phone... It never crashed and no app just closed from one second to the other. Only thing i dont like is battery life. After one year of use it barely survives one full day without charging it up. I also activated the Battery Care Mode which only charges the phone to 80%. The battery still lost some power but i guess thats how it is. Thats the reason i bought a 30W AC to load it up faster. All in all a great phone and i will enjoy it at least for 1 year more, before upgrading and look what sony has done so far. Sony I V is in my opinion not worth upgrading. I like phones that are not in everybodys pocket, build quality is very very good, sound also extremely nice. And i dont want to support apple. With Sony you actually get what you paid for. :) Love your Videos! Keep it up! :)

I've also had the occasional bug, but like you said, it's similar to what I've experienced with every high end phone I've ever had. There are slowly some annoyances building for me. I may sell my 1IV that I have as a backup, and get an Apple device so I can be in a little bit of both worlds. Thank you for watching and for the kind words!

Excellent as always. Of course, everyone is entitled to their own opinion and preferences but many tech reviewers write off Sony Xperia phones because the camera performs differently to the competition. But this difference is why the (unfortunately) small audience who use Xperia phones adore them - because in many areas, upon close inspection, they outperform the competition.

Even with all of the things I dislike, Xperia is still the best option for me at the moment. I may consider picking up an iPhone and selling my 1IV, just so I can have a foot in the door with both worlds! Thanks for watching as always!

MKBHD proved years ago, with his blind smartphone camera "tournament", that people are trained to like the most saturated and HDR-like photos, even if the photos aren't actually "better". I believe the winner of the first tournament was the Poco phone. I have an S23 Ultra, and the camera is really good for point and shoot, but it's just not going to compare to the Xperia in terms of true quality, which this video explained very succinctly.

@@ShibiChan It's never a bad thing being familiar with the "other side". I was using an iPhone during a recent work term and it was an awful experience. Yes, some of it was just irritation from my Android muscle memory, but I have an iPad and I worked for a national carrier selling phones for years. I'm familiar with iOS. In my opinion, it's a half-baked OS. The UI navigation is clumsy and awkward. Even attaching a file or photo to an email is clumsy. There is lag and stuttering in the UI. The OS needs a rebuild from the inside out. I know that sounds harsh, and weird considering the popularity of the iPhone, but I honestly feel that way.

@@avenuePad I totally get where you're coming from. I had the 13 pro max, and the biggest reason (actually there were quite a few lol) was because I couldn't get my keyboard customized the way I want. It's the thing I interact with the most, and not being able to match it to my android keyboard setup drove me nuts. I'm happy that they have usbc on the new ones, that was another really annoying point. I actually use an M1 Mac for all of my productivity type stuff and love it. So using an iPhone with it seems like it could possibly be good. I figure since I'm going to have two phones anyway, I may as well diversify instead of two of the same thing lol

I am pretty happy with my Xperia 1 V. It is the phone I have had where all the aspects of it are of the highest quality sturdiness, picture, high definition sound, audio codecs, 3,5 mm audio output removable SDCard, battery optimization features (except for Facebook), CPU, etc. The only downside was that #SonySupport told me the new stacked sensor was used on all lenses. It is only used on the primary lens. The zoom could be a bit better as well. ...And Music Pro could have more instruments or a RAW file function for audio files with the possibility to sound engineer the sound afterwards. I would also like recommendations for Camera filters and external sound mikes if possible. Otherwise I am happy with it 😊

@@ShibiChan I didn't know Sharp made mobiles. It has many of the features I want that the Xperia has... and is only available in Japan. I have a sneaking suspicion internal Sony politics and using the Xperia capabilities to sell sensors to Apple have locked the company into the inferior zoom lens capability. Paying that amount of money for a mobile everything should be top of the line. Especially the camera. That's why I paid for it. Oh well, I will have to buy attachment lenses to compensate if that is possible and consider my options when buying my next phone. I haven't found a good zoom lens yet though. Do you perhaps have any suggestions? As a sidenote ND filters all have a colored tint to them whether purple, green or something else so I will stay away from those for now. Sorry for the Sunday rant 😅

I've owned either the 1 or the 5 of every series since the Mark II (1 II, 1 III, 1 IV, 5 IV, and the 1 V) and the one thing I can never accept is poor quality auxiliary sensors. The sensors on the zoom lenses, specifically, are among the worst I've ever used in a modern device and result in really poor performance in anything but the best lighting conditions. I'm not just talking about having long reach, either. I'm talking about the ability to take indoor photos using the tele for something like portraits without the image looking blurry from a long shutter speed or covered in artifacts from high ISO. Compare that zoom lens to the quality you can get from the best of Google, Xiaomi, Vivo, or even OnePlus (the 11 had surprisingly good performance from the 2x lens), and you'll end up questioning how the Sony could justify a comparable price. Otherwise, I love what they are trying to do. I just think it's time that they start using the Sony sensors they are selling to other manufacturers in their own phones. Sony Mobile might be an entirely separate division but still.

Currently trying out Xperia 1 V to see if it can be my main phone as I'm trying to upgrade from Samsung Note 9 but also waiting to compare that I bought Nothing Phone 2 (awaiting delivery) I would like to support Xperia more but the OS and security updates maybe one of the reasons I'm hesitating to keep or wait till line of Xperia 1 VI or VII to address that. One of the downsides of Xperia 1 V U.S ver only comes with 256gb and not 512gb internal and they've removed the notification led.

Thanks for watching! I remember when the Note 9 came out, it was my dream to have that phone. It seems like it's still even a great device today. If there was a remake of that, with the headphone jack, micro SD expansion, etc, I'd probably be using that was my main device. I wish they offered the 512 option! 256 is what my current 1V is, and it's a little small for me. I have a 256 micro SD as well, but definitely always want more storage. I loved the led on the previous models, but honestly, after not having it for a few months, I don't feel as sad about it. I do still wish it was here, but I miss it less than I initially expected I would

Sony should be congratulated for choosing their own route in the smartphone world. However that doesn't mean they shouldn't learn from the likes of Samsung and Apple. Updated are an important part of owning a phone. Also making the cameras perform well when using point and click should always be an option. I am actually thinking of buying the 1v instead of the upcoming 1 vi as I like the form factor that Sony adopted. I'm not sure personally the wider screen will work for me that Sony are about to introduce. But that's a personal opinion and I admire the fact that they are listening to people and are prepared to change the forms factor. Hopefully giving them a larger share of ownership in the cutthroat world of mobile phones. Sony really are a class another when it comes to tech.

Look at Huawei did like in the P60 pro. A movable aperture. If sony did that you can call xperia a truly manual photography phone. Too sad in the xperia we have fix aperture.

I have an Xperia 1 v and love it. Wouldn't get a different company again. I absolutely hate any apple product. They are a scumbag liberal company and my Samsung broke, which based on lack of options had to get one. I would have gotten Sony sooner but the fact that they don't link up with carriers and you have to pay full price at once hindered me from getting it for awhile. Now that I have one the phone is great. Speakers and screen are way better then S23 ultra. The aspect ratio is great and people who say phone doesn't get bright enough I think have something wrong with their vision. It's plenty bright. And yes it's main thing as a phone is that it's not a point and shoot phone, but it's fun to have control over the photo app. And once you do I can tell you my phone takes better picture then my wife's s 22 ultra, and my S23 ultra which is now being used to prob up a desk leg because it's garbage. Just like Samsung TVs!
