Juvenile: ·Active ·Personally Train/Condition them ·Longer time with it(lifespan wise) Adult: ·Calmer ·Most likely already trained ·Shorter time with it(since it's older) It really depends on what animal though tbh. Babies and Older Adults usually have special dietary needs so a middle aged pet might be better.

Shayla Mathis here’s a tip just incase if your gecko eats the paper towel you could always uses kitchen cabinet liners it’s harder for them to chew/eat so you won’t have to worry about then eating it and it’s much easier to clean also if you do get kitchen cabinet liners make sure it doesn’t have chemicals in it and your good :)

It's sort of a real concern though, leopard geckos are solitary and (most of the time) don't take to eachother very kindly and if an adult feels threatened by a younger gecko like that, he will straight up eat the baby. But yeah I'll admit it was funny, but I also got worried there for a sec lol 😅

I got my Ball Python as a Baby and have never had problems with her. I got my Boa Imperator as a sub-adult of about 3-4 years old (she was an unexpected rescue). The Boa took a few weeks to tame down but she is doing great today! So long story short, from my very limited experience Id say that if you can handle the animal at it's adult size and deal with its behavior properly then get an adult! But if you are unsure about proper husbandry and care and need some time to grow with the animal then buy a baby.

Easy labeling across species: Is the animal flighty, defensive, often nipping/defecating or prone to other survival behaviors (aka constant freezing, fleeing, etc.)? THAT'S A SPICY BOI/GURL Is the animal chill and easy to handle, relatively confident, without frequent defensive displays? A little head shy, may occasionally freeze if startled. THAT'S A MILD BOI/GURL Does the animal seem to even enjoy or seek humans for one reason or another, otherwise completely fearless, and not head shy or defensive? Could give less of a shit what your are doing, perhaps? THAT'S THE GOODEST BOI/GURL There, you're welcome. I have many goodest bois and gurls but one spicy boi atm and hes takin his sweet time mellowing out!! His name is Jellybean. He's my crazy frijolito, but also too cute not to be a Jellybean. I got my leopard gecko at almost a year old I bought her from a local pet store because I got to hold her and just fell in love with how chill she was, I wasn’t looking for a reptile at the time but came back a few days later to buy her just because of how sweet she was.

I have 7 or 8 anoles in a huge terrarium (like 250g) and they stay about the size of your little gecko. I love them and they’re fun to feed (crickets and super worms) and easy to handle

Also some species like green iguanas have different diets as they mature. Basically, juveniles need more protein in there diet (insects and other things like that) while adults need a higher percentage of leafy greens. There's also probably other species like that but I just used iguanas for an example

we got our beardie when he was 5, he was pretty tame but kinda fussy when we picked him up. we handled him a lot though and now you can literally hold him vertically to your stomach and he won't try to crawl up cause he knows we won't let him fall :')

I just got my first gecko about a week ago and its a baby. Its unnamed right now but we call it lil buddy. I absolutely love having a baby bc i love seeing it grow a progress. It was so stressed out when i bought it that it didn't eat or leave its moist hide for three days. It sleeps on the cool, moist side of the tank but at night it basks on the warm side. It ate for the first time in a while yesterday and it made me almost cry to see it get comfortable enough to do so. I sit by its tank for about an hour every night to read my book, the last two nights were the first times it didn't run away into its hide when i sat near it. Difficult but rewarding, i love baby geckos

i adopted my gecko at age 1-ish from the back area of a petland where they hid all the adoptable reptiles, because the babies and more expensive "wanted" critters and whatnot are the ones they have on display and he is very shy but also really kind and docile, i love him and it has now been 9 years since i adopted him instead of buying a baby and i have no regrets, i'm glad i helped save him. he lost toes from his old owners not bathing him before they surrendered him, and he was living with a mean female gecko in a 10 gallon in petland so i definitely gave him a happier life too.

The guy I bought my beardie and most recent python off was actually selling his adult reptiles for up to hundreds of dollars cheaper than the babies (depending on species of course), and he said it was because no one wants adults and he just can't sell them. He runs a rescue/rehoming service similar to emerald scales and he gets lots of people bringing in babies they couldn't sell themselves or didn't really want to deal with themselves, and he said they'll be gone the week he puts them up for adoption, doesn't matter what they are, they go super fast. he also gets a lot of people though that come and dump their adult animals (especially snakes) on him, usually because they were too expensive to maintain, got too big to handle or the animal was "sick" (it was normally just insufficient heating) and they couldn't afford the vet bills/didn't have a vet nearby that would treat reptiles. He said the only time anyone ever wants the adults is if they want them for breeding and not all the animals he has are suitable for that so a lot stay with his for ages. everyone wants the babies so they can see them grow, just like any other animal I guess. Side note, so jealous of your corn snake! they're illegal here but they're so pretty, I've always wanted one!

i rescued a leopard gecko from a household that no longer wanted him, as the child lost interest. shes 2 years old and severely stunted, and half the size of my 1 y/o male leopard gecko. although she is an adult, the amount of patience and trust she has is crazy. she lets us weigh and hand feed her, and doesn’t seem to let her past affect her emotional and physical demeanor. i usually prefer young’uns but she’s an exception (:

I got my leopard gecko when he was 8, as his previous owners no longer had room for him. Luckily, he’s super chill and warmed up to me within days, but I do wish I got him before his previous owners had him because he was calcium deficient and a bit skinny.

I've really loved raising my bearded dragon Nobel from a baby. Watching as he grows and knowing that it's because of me that he's getting bigger and stronger. When I got him he was like, May be two inches long. Now he's a year old and he's so much bigger. He's been worth every penny I put into him. Including his new big tank that he seems to love so much

I just bought my first snake at an expo yesterday, a baby rosy boa--there were two, one slightly larger and one very small baby. I ended up getting the smaller one because she was active and looked healthy, had prettier colors, and when I was checking her out, she bit me but in what looked like a food response way (there were live rodents one vendor over, I think she could smell them). She's chilling in her new enclosure, settling in from the stress of transport and all. I look forward to taming her down myself and watching her grow up ^^

i got my leopard gecko when he's was 5 months old. he's such a sweet heart and i love him to death. he is a year old now and he has never jumped. he has never jumped off me or from my arm to me or anything. so i just wanted to say that because i found it surprising when the juvenile leopard gecko jumped to you and you said something along the lines of "why does this happen everytime". but i guess everyone's experience is different. 💕💕

A couple points also worth mentioning: (1) the need to buy additional juvenile housing vs buying a permanent adult-size enclosure. (2) the risk of unknown developmental diseases and illness as the baby grows vs buying an adult with an established veterinary record of health or treatable illnesses (3) getting babies from breeders vs the option to support rescues and rehomes for adults (4) pickier eating habits of babies and needing to transition them yourself vs buying an adult already on commercial or F/T

I got my first leopard gecko as a baby, he was actually really chill when we got him home, he wasn’t very stressed and actually was pretty tame when we got him, and that doesn’t always happen, my second leopard gecko was probably close to 8 months to a year when I got her, and she was actually abandoned in a petstore bathroom, I took her home and she was very very stressed. I’ve had her for a while now and she still does not enjoy handling, which her situation is an extreme but she does enjoy her 40 gallon bioactive setup, and she’s very active. My third Leo we just got, is again pretty chill but was stressed the first day, the second day we offered food and he went ham on some dubia roaches and I think that really calmed him down, I do enjoy seeing them grow up but I dint mind having an older one, even if I can’t hold her as much as my others, but I definitely prefer raising them myself since the only adult I’ve gotten was traumatized by getting shoved in a small plastic bin and abandoned in a cold bathroom for who knows how long
