What do I do if I’m doing all of the right things, but my wife can’t get over an affair that happened 3 years ago?
@blakelewis84352 жыл бұрын
Hi Geoffrey my wife and I just separated after 10 years non stop together. She said she needed space and kicked me out on the street with basically nothing to my name. Iv been away for 3 weeks now and she wants me to get a place of my own and be stable by myself for awhile. Divorce papers have not been talked about but she said she wants to be her and do her own thing for awhile. I have two young children I went from seeing everyday to now 3 days a week. She still sends me snap chats and tictok videos but doesn't kiss me or say I love you much anymore, I'm kinda lost in my situation trying to put my life back together I'm in need of serious help would you mind talking with me

I am listening to your videos, even though I am a woman. I feel all the things you are describing. My husband only makes changes dependent on the outcome he wants (so the changes are always external, never internal, and never last), and I never feel safe talking with him. I am at the point where I'm ready to move on, but with children it is hard. So I've stopped focusing on wishing he would do the internal work, and am trying to just work on myself, my own issues, and my own healing. I wish there was someone like you for the wives in these situations. Yours are the best videos I've found so far, but they are obviously geared toward the husband. Still, I find your videos helpful as far as identifying exactly why I feel the way I do in our bad marriage, and the video on listening is great for anyone (both men and women). If you know of any resources or videos for women to benefit from that you would recommend, please do share them.

Im sad to learn this. I am in this boat now. I’ve driven my wife away with my reactive crazy mindset. I haven’t been supportive or loving. I’ve been reactive and resentful. I allow her feelings to dictate mine and that’s unfair. I am working in this. I hope she sees the changes at some point. I understand that this will take time. Months, maybe years but I’m not giving up. Check out Esther Perel. She has some really great content on KZbin. Hope you look into her. God bless you. I’ll be praying for you and your husband. 🙏🏼

Geoffrey talks in he and she, but it works both ways. Your man's changes are most likely temporary because he feels he MUST do it for several reasons (i.e. not to lose you, to prevent arguements, keep the peace, etc.). None of which is really voluntary if you think about it. People will only make lasting changes when they CHOOSE to do it, not when they feel FORCED to do it. Now if what I assumed is the case (fear of losing you is making him agree to change forcefully and therefore through willpower which is always temporary) he could be experiencing a lack of psychological or even emotional safety. Once you clear that up, he'll be able to make the VOLUNTARY choice to listen to your point of view, understand it and through that CHOOSE to change for himself. The problem you had with your man, was my girls issue with me. Every relationship breaking issue is a matter of safety like Geoffrey claims. He really knows his stuff and it doesn't take two to tango. How do I know so sure? I am currently doing really well at fixing my relationship after a year long break up. We went on a vacation together lasy week and are spending more and more time together. All it takes is real effort to learn Geoffreys stuff. Most importantly the mindset shifts(for me personally: not feeling like a victim) and identity shifting.

It's so good to hear a wife's perspective, I am working to become the man I've always wanted to be and these videos are so helpful, I'm never gonna give up on her, and I'll make the changes that make me happy with myself when I look in the mirror, hopefully she'll see it too if not its her loss because I'll be an even better man!

I feel the same way! Another wife.... There is lots of advice for us women out there. But there's not a lot of advice for women in committed relationships to help us figure out how to cope in the meantime. It seems like geoffery always assumed the woman has left or given up. I want to help and support my man through this process... I WANT to meet his needs. But I am afraid if I do he will be content with the relationship that way and I still won't be....all the videos on KZbin make me feel like I am the rare woman who is willing to stay and keep engaging... The journey Geoffrey is describing is one I have been figuring our myself before I found these videos. And not he is describing the process I have been going through of shifting my mindset from outcome to process.... I am figuring out who I am.... But the person I am is someone who likes to serve and go out of my way for others and do special things for them. Whether it's my kids or friends or husband. How do I be true to who I am and do the things I want for to do for him and not resent that he does give me what I need even when I very clearly communicate it... And he doesn't even seem that sorry that I am hurting so much. I'm not attracted to him anymore because he doesn't care about or support me enough (don't have the psychological and emotional safety). So we can't get to the sexual passion part.... But I am still willing... And sometimes even eager to please him. It brings me joy to make him happy... But he doesn't reciprocate and it hurts so bad. So I don't know what to do. Do I need to withhold? It's not really me to do so... But if I don't, how will he ever be motivated to prioritize my needs. We have kids. If we didn't, I'd probably leave. But I'm stuck with him, so I want to make the best of it.... And I'm fine being patient if I thought we were moving forward... But it doesn't feel like we are...I don't want to leave him with no sex.... But I also don't want to stay in a situation where my needs are never a priority and I get hurt a lot...yeah I wish there were a companion channel for wives... But I bet if there was it wouldn't address my situation...

Your channel was introduced to me by a colleague of yours in NY. A lot of your videos' content click with me. My wife (who has recently filed for a divorce) and I (not my choice) after waiting for 3yrs feels she has no hope for things to change. I have felt frustrated in the past as I tried to convince her to let's have couple's therapy as well as I do individual therapy. While I still haven't given up, it seems too late to wait for things to turn around when one party doesn't want to and with divorce filed. Your videos are great. They hit the nail in many cases. I have now finally moved on to focus on my own health than to try ways to make her believe and build her trust.😢🤢

My wife is saying she is done and divorce is inevitable. I know your answer would be that this is the key time to fix myself and show her I’m irreplaceable but the issue I am having is we have two children and she wants me to move out. I don’t want to move out because I know the damage it will have on my kids as well as the potential damage it can do if she follows through with divorce if I leave before it’s filed. With me staying it seems she is getting more agitated but I don’t know what I should do at this point to try and fix it.

Great video and 90% of the contact I believe is really truly on point and helpful, I totally disagree in the context of marriage allowing your partner to step out of that covenant in commitment, it wouldn’t be acceptable for you either. Now with that said there could be all kinds of layers of damage that would come from this and I know people personally that have done this and it destroyed their marriage. You have to be very careful there, I do believe in the context of the confidence and sincerity of your heart with the confidence of your value. Making yourself irreplaceable is 100% correct more than low level action, but all of it is relative important. Great content in this video I just advise being very careful on the very end where you give permission of freedom to step out of your marriage Vals.
@GeoffreySetiawan2 жыл бұрын
Always give your partner enough freedom and empowerment to leave, but treat her well enough so she won't want to. We enroll 1,500+ clients every single year, and many of them grow themselves to become truly irreplaceable. And allowing their partner this freedom has never led to anything "bad". Not once. In fact, it allows their partner to be able to truly surrender and be 100% to whatever decision they choose to make. If you try to keep controlling and preventing her from doing this, sure, she might stay, but she's going to spend every single waking moment asking "what-if". The only reason you should fear this is if you have not become truly irreplaceable. (You can't just SAY it, you have to BECOME it). I personally did this myself, and our relationship could not be better. And all my clients do this, and when they reconcile, they reconcile for good :)

I'm in this space with my wife. She wants a divorce for a few reasons. 1-I work too much. 2-My empathy towards her is terrible and I'm so resistant to anything she ask me to do for our marriage to grow. Its never been a case of infidelity, it was my lack of those things I said. We still are married and she hasn't filed for divorce but we are sleeping in separate rooms. We are cordial but I want to fix this. In my heart of hearts I know we can do it. She told me that I'm only trying cause she is done trying. But she still gives me hope through things she say and do. Just not literally and it's so hot and cold and confusing. I drive over the road and I've completely divulge myself into your information. It has been alot of eye opening things that only through accountability I believe I would be able to fix this.

He now wants to do whatever it takes to make it work after telling him I want a divorce. I tried to end it by saying we did the best we knew how to do for 18years but it’s just not working. He now sees his own faults and has apologized expressed them to me on how he will do better. But I feel like I need space and time to even consider it. He immediately says I need to figure out where I’m going to live because why is it fair to him that he should have to leave our home when I’m the one that wants out of our marriage. I’d also like to add I’m a SAHM with 4 kids. So his immediate response of “kicking me to the curb” just made me feel even more done. But I feel stuck because I have no where to go with 4 kids. I just cannot see me being able to work on things with him right now just by the flick of a switch. Or rather him saying he cannot lose me and will do anything.

You did nothing wrong. There’s two separate issues. One is her fidelity, regardless of the partner. The second is her chemistry towards which gender. Neither of these are your concern. This seems really useful but in using the emotional and psychological safety methods most guys have tried at some point to build "emotional safety" with a women only to realized that they have been friendzoned and reduced to an emotional tampon(for lack of a better word) while being emotionally vested for months on end. How would one reduce the likelihood of that happening and address the probabilities. The other school of thought to play the antithesis of this is - If there is no genuine burning desire it cannot be coaxed, manipulated or manifested, better yourself and move on until she is willing to re-enter your frame. (I do not personally think relationships ought to be disposable like this so there ought to be middle ground too especially if there are children involved). What do you think about how those two different schools of thought that conflict with each other and how they can be reconciled? I'm pretty sure you can make an entire video on this like the No Contact, Smart contact method which broke it out pretty well.
@GeoffreySetiawan3 жыл бұрын
Watch my videos on power in relationships or my client stories. The answer never lies in extremes - the answer always lies in the balance. (e.g. If your idea of building emotional safety is to be a doormat, then that's not building emotional safety. It's tough to build emotional safety with a doormat). It's not black or white, it is balanced.
@grildcheez15043 жыл бұрын
@@GeoffreySetiawan Thank you. You are so correct (yet again) about extremes. So much of the content online although some lessons can be gleaned of them seems to be about blame, manipulation or extremes none of which are enduring or viable outcomes for humanity. This separation primarily seems to benefit(or is an unintended consequence of) big tech that is always on a quest to advance more engagement into their platforms (winning the competition for attention is one of their primary objectives) at the expense of people who are physically present in our lives. I also want to express how enlightening your constructs are. Your content is the only one I've found that seems to present it holistically and contextualize it in a win - win structure for both sides. The way your frameworks are expressed is a paradigm shift from the general narrative I have experienced prior to that. Please don't underestimate the amount of impact and change you are bringing to people's lives. It's priceless and the mental shift extends to all relationships, helps people understand themselves better, helps re-examine past failed interactions and if embraced not only advances our own capacities but our ability to lead others into positive interactions and dissipate much of the conflict. This also has second order benefits to their children and the trajectory of their lives. You are really making a meaningful impact.

I only found out weeks ago, and saw them on cctv when i cant help my self but to grab his phone and check on the cctv access from our studio. And then, after showing him what i got, he was sorry about it and i found out, they have been in the relationship for 3 years now. He apologized, but he told me it was because he dont love me anymore, even before (we were always having fights) and he cant bring back the love he had for me. But he dont want us to separate, he still wants me here in the house for our 2 kids. He still comes home. And we still have the same routine. For 3 years i was treated like a stranger, and i was clueless that he has a relationship with that person whom i thought was only concern for our family. He was there in our studio since day 1. Every other night he is here, and those nights in between, he sleeps in the studio. But he cant leave the gay guy (also not publicly gay), still he is the keyman in the studio accdg to my husband, gay guy was doing mostly all the tasks in the studio

Take his money and kids and get out. Unless you want to stay. If you want to stay have a side dude.

So basically let her hurt you and still create a forgiving space with no consequence?

He seems to takes affairs too lightly. It should be hard to tell your mate that you cheated and not be surprised at an angry response.

I get it now. Better to just give up. Life won't get any better if I'm that person that doesn't deserve love or respect. Thanks.

My wife has started the initial paperwork for a joint divorce. Obviously I am watching these videos because divorce is not what I want. If I sign them it gives her the idea that I am giving up right? I obviously don't want to make her angry. What's your thoughts?
@GeoffreySetiawan2 жыл бұрын
Hi Richard, I am not going to answer this, because this to me is answered in so many videos. I will challenge you here. If divorce is not what you want, I will advise you to keep watching and feel free to answer your own question once you have watched more than just a couple of videos.

If you love something, set it free. You have to realize that you cant force her to remain in the marriage, by obstructing the divorce process. She has to want to remain in the marriage, for the right reasons, in order to reconcile. Just tell her, I don't want divorce, but I also want you to be happy. Then work the program, and have faith in the process.

So what I am getting here is she can do anything and it actually the man’s fault. So then what responsibility does she have to the relationship?

And guys, Never forget this point. You are not robots. What do these females love? You or the Idea of you? Ive been there and done that. And this is another one. What are they changing for you? Ask yourself these questions.

Hi Michael Craig, I find that the vast majority of the people that view my content are the ones who realize that they fell short and have areas they must work on. They also to realize that their partner's have tried many times in the past and they were oblivious to this. Now they are seeking the right skills and knowledge to assure themselves that this situation will never happen again. But hey, seems like you have it all figured out and don't need to make any changes so you just keep doing you.
