There are lots of aspects to consider but the rewards of having this type of lifestyle are numerous. What a great way to visit new countries, experience new cultures, and make new friends. about the advantages and disadvantages you talk about... how's about spending BTC in Madeira? Can you pay rent with it? groceries?

Did you try the other alternatives before settling on Portugal did you get lonely experimenting with that life style? Doesn't your D7 restrict you from being out of the country for more than four months for the next 2 years and for three more years thereafter until you become a permanent resident. Not much choice about staying put under that regime if you want to explore other options. Since you got in under the NHL in about 7 years if your income increases you will be paying 48% in income tax. One country wonders have their own downsides as well. We have friends all over the world and are not limited in our ability to go meet them.
