What frustrates me so much when looking up info on boards is exactly what you mentioned in the beginning. Almost every Google search sends you to a website funneling straight to Amazon. Hard to find legit sites with real reviews with the amount of "fake" sites out there. The worst part is the amount of positive reviews the bad brands get from people buying it for their children or grandchildren that know nothing about longboarding/skating. Which could lead to a dangerous situation where a cheap board breaks unexpectedly on a kid while riding. But it's not just with longboarding I've found. Camping, computer parts, so many communities are flooded with this crap that Google's algorithm puts to the top. It's why channels like yours are so valuable today. Thank you! Your breakdown on the cheap boards really nailed all the parts to look out for!

I got in wanted turning on it, the wheels are getting more lopsided and I been getting tons of wheel bite from it. I watched your video about the cruiser I have and all the cons you stated about the board became real apparent on mine. I love my retrospec longboard (I literally have the teal and wood one on the table), they’re not just some weird amazon brand, they sell a bunch of boards and bikes and other stuff. Ive never longboarded or skateboarded before I bought it and it was really easy to learn on and I didn’t have to spend a fortune. Well now I love longboarding and I’ll probably buy a more expensive one in the future. The trucks and bearings are kinda stiff but I enjoyed that while i was learning. I think it was worth $60.
@richardfierro26993 жыл бұрын
The bad part about these boards are that people buy them because they're new to longboarding and want to learn, but the whole setup is cheap and borderline dangerous to ride. Not only that, if you do decide to actually get into it and upgrade, you're going to end up spending more since you bought a $60-$100 cheap setup when you could've just dropped $200 for a setup that would last you 10+ years.

I started on a short little walmart longboard, then "upgraded" to my current Amazon longboard. I've been picking up new components for it piece by piece, and modified the deck shape a bit to fit what I wanted. I've been having a blast on it so far, and once it breaks, I'm planning to get a good bare deck and slap my nice new components on it. As a board to learn the basics on, it was great! I don't have loads of money to throw around, and actually had to save a little to get the $80 that my current board cost. I knew when I bought it that it was temporary, and the low price gave me confidence to try some things I wouldn't dare do on an expensive board. If it breaks, I'm not really out all that much. All this to say, yea. I agree that you should probably spend the extra on a good board out the gate, but if you know exactly what you're getting into and just want to get out, the cheap boards aren't the end of the world.

I do enjoy how it came with a blank deck on the bottom so i could plaster that bad boy with stickers and my dad's fire department logo sticker is my centerpiece. Someday i might upgrade trucks bearings and wheels but in the meantime its been a solid, slower learner board for some of my friends and my niece and nephew. It's certainly a personal interest thing, I started longboarding only a month ago and I find every excuse I can to grab one and head out somewhere. A lot of your early weeks will be cruising around just to learn the feel of it, but later on you might head out to hang with friends or quickly run down to the local store to grab something. Ultimately it's just like level 2 walking. More practical than inline, or cycling, faster and way more fun and interesting than walking!

Hey there! I just wanted to say that I personally have not had a problem with my Retrospec board yet and I ride it all the time, I feel that most of the bad claims made were more towards the other board shown in the video. I have had my Retrospec Zed longboard (the exact same pintail board shown in this video just with a different color) for over 5 months now and have only had a good experience with it. I have not had any quality issues like cracks or a warped deck and I don't think that specific board is as bad as its made out to be. The company that makes it seems to be pretty trustworthy from my research and in this video it does not do the best job of looking into it. Most of the bad claims show the other board which does seem considerably worse. I personally love using that Retrospec board and I think it deserves a more in depth review on why it specifically is portrayed to be as bad as that drop-through longboard. I am not saying that your wrong, but I just think that its not on the same level as that other board at all. Thanks!

I think youtubers that are famous for skating are gonna dislike but random people trying to have fun won't have a problem. I can confirm this video. I street skated years ago and wanted to get back to doing something. I bought the exact same Retrospec longboard in this video. The deck itself although strangely shaped is the only good part of the setup. The wheels and bearings were terrible, after 2 months the kingpin snapped in half while I was riding and I sprained my ankle. I’ve nearly replaced everything on the board, trucks, wheels, bearings when I should have spent a little more and bought a well known longboard brand.

Thoughts on buying a longboard from Zumiez? (Mercer, Santa Cruz, etc). Are they worth paying twice the price of a Retrospec? Ehler? Or is it just a “fashion brand” board with no additional quality?

I'm really new to longboarding, I've only been doing it for a few weeks and my first board was from Amazon. I can kinda notice some of the things being talked about in the video like the resistance in the wheels and bearings (although I don't know if they're really resisting or that's just how they are). Either way, I really like longboarding and I want to keep doing it, but I also don't have the biggest wallet. If I can get my hands on an affordable cruiser longboard that's from a company with a good or great reputation, that would be fantastic!

I bought a white wave warrior off of amazon. Is it a good board? I haven't seen any good youtube reviews on it.

Great Feedback! I totally concur this practice incorporates at least 70%? of Amazon products.... Just because it's cheap doesn't mean it's a great deal.

Thank you so much for this video, it’s my first time long boarding and I almost bought a Amazon longboard but now I found a used sector 9 board that seems much better

I actually recently started longboarding with a cruiser Quest board from Amazon, mainly based on the recommendations and so far it has not been that bad tho. Loosing the trucks actually helped

So I bought the magneto pintail longboard from Amazon. I really like surfing and long boarding has been fun but I don’t know if I should get a new longboard.

I bought a longboard from Amazon, but it was good quality. I am also a beginner. Could you tell me if Globe is a good company? I also got it for not a bad price for free shipping. Only $130. I rly do recommend it.

I just purchased a long board for one of my sons at a local shop in Phoenix, the brand is white wave and I have no clue about anything related to skateboarding and I still have to purchase another one for my other son and these are for Christmas so I was wondering did I make a bad purchase or am I OK with purchasing another one for my other son

I’m looking to get back into longbaording after a brief stint in the early 00s. I used to have a Gravity board with a TON of flex. Is there anything like that in the under 100 range?

I’m so glad I found this video first before I almost bought a retrospec off amazon! Instead I found a barely used arbor online for just about the same price and it works so good 😊

I lucked out and got the Volador drop through deck for $60 before the prices went nuts. At the $60 price point it wasn’t bad. Here were the issues I saw. Grip tape started fraying near the edges. Wheels chipped real easily. Bearings were ok. Much quieter than Spitfire cheap shots. Trucks I had no issue. I like the idea of getting a used quality longboard

So in Tilly's there's a longboard that has good reviews but its retrospect and its 70 bucks. I am a beginner and I wanted to know if just amazon had just the problem or the longboard itself was bad. I also watched some reviews on KZbin of the longboard and they say that its a little scratched up but its not bad for a beginner. Do you recommend buying that retrospect board or buying a mid tier brand. Also wanted to know if goldcoast was a decent brand or any other brands you would recommend that are mid tier budget and has a decent board

Ive rode longboards from Landyacht, sector nine, as well as from retrospec and I have to say that this video is definitely pushing it. While there may be some things on a retrospec board that can be improved it's definitely not too shitty of a board as this video might lead you to believe

If your board super gummy in the middle of the board to the point you are touching the ground is the longboard broken

I just broke my elbow riding a retrospec...you don’t talk about that board too much specifically, but do you think there might be something about it that makes it unstable or am I just clumsy?

The best deck I've ever owned personally was a gem I found on amazon. It was just a deck with an unsealed paint and no grip tape. I did the grip tape and sealed it myself. The thing lasted me for years as I put it through the ringer. I was at around 280 pounds when I owned this deck, and had about 20 pounds of papers and binders in my backpack for school. I am so sad I can't find it anymore.. I'm now around 350 pounds and want to get back into riding, but can't find a board I think will be thick enough to support me like my old one..

Is it better to get a longboard from a store. Like zumiez or vans then amazon?

I recently got a retrospect drop down board, I’m new to long boarding but the other boards I had compared to the retrospect were terrible. they were ones from target so that would explain it. But so far the retrospect doesn’t seem to bad.

Good info. So I picked up a branded longboard recently which was barely used but as I'm using it, I notice it's warping. I'm super new to longboarding. The warp itself doesn't bother me, other than the longboard looks all durpy. How can I unwarp it or should I just continue riding it like that? Any help would be appreciated 😁🤙🏼

Ok, I have a volador longboard, if I want to make it better, should I upgrade the wheels and bearings to make it smoother? Or should I just invest in a new setup from a better company?

I just recently got into longboarding because my aunt got me an amazon board it was around 100 bucks and it does feel a little stiff but I really am enjoying skating around in it. What are some brands that are good in quality around 130 - 200 that's about the price range i have.
