there are so many good brands that aren't really that much more expensive though. i would rather buy something made in USA/Canada from a company who cares about a good product than something mass produced in a sweat shop overseas. amazon longboard is fine but keep this in mind if you ever wish to upgrade or try a different style

What frustrates me so much when looking up info on boards is exactly what you mentioned in the beginning. Almost every Google search sends you to a website funneling straight to Amazon. Hard to find legit sites with real reviews with the amount of "fake" sites out there. The worst part is the amount of positive reviews the bad brands get from people buying it for their children or grandchildren that know nothing about longboarding/skating. Which could lead to a dangerous situation where a cheap board breaks unexpectedly on a kid while riding. But it's not just with longboarding I've found. Camping, computer parts, so many communities are flooded with this crap that Google's algorithm puts to the top. It's why channels like yours are so valuable today. Thank you! Your breakdown on the cheap boards really nailed all the parts to look out for!

I’d been riding a volidor since March when I started out... I’d bought the board 2ish years ago when I got into started college but never really was inspired to learn until the pandemic ...originally I thought it was good but then I got my little bro into cruising and he bought a sector 9.. dead ass no comparison I’ve road his board 5 or 6 times before buying my own ...which I freaking adore !! and here’s a newbies comparison between them the volidor does not keep momentum, it is literally three times the effort to push, it rides rough and is made of cheap material that feels like it could split and the grip tape is stupid cheap... my sector 9 rides like a freaking dream, has quality grip tape and actually keeps its momentum.. don’t waste your time with bad boards kids they only hinder your learning process

The way I started out was buying one of those cheapoes (one that I thought looked sick. That’s crucial) and then over time upgraded the parts individually. Now I have a complete longboard with all my favorite parts and nothing is left of the original but it was something to get me rolling (literally). When buying the board I might pick up some zealous bearing right off the bat because it just makes pedaling and gliding so much easier and more enjoyable

I started skateboarding not to long ago maybe like 2-3 months ago and I made the “rookie mistake that you were talking about. I got a magneto cruiser on amazon and it was pretty good for some time but the quality of riding it really deteriorated. I got in wanted turning on it, the wheels are getting more lopsided and I been getting tons of wheel bite from it. I watched your video about the cruiser I have and all the cons you stated about the board became real apparent on mine. I should’ve done the research before buying it but I didn’t know about all the little parts of a board so I thought it didn’t matter🤦‍♂️ anyway I’ve been thinking about getting a Landyachtz dinghy. I watched your vid on that board and it seems like a good option. You make really high quality accurate content on different boards and you deserve tons of respect. Love the content

I love my retrospec longboard (I literally have the teal and wood one on the table), they’re not just some weird amazon brand, they sell a bunch of boards and bikes and other stuff. Ive never longboarded or skateboarded before I bought it and it was really easy to learn on and I didn’t have to spend a fortune. Well now I love longboarding and I’ll probably buy a more expensive one in the future. The trucks and bearings are kinda stiff but I enjoyed that while i was learning. I think it was worth $60.
@richardfierro2699
@richardfierro2699 3 жыл бұрын
The bad part about these boards are that people buy them because they're new to longboarding and want to learn, but the whole setup is cheap and borderline dangerous to ride. Not only that, if you do decide to actually get into it and upgrade, you're going to end up spending more since you bought a $60-$100 cheap setup when you could've just dropped $200 for a setup that would last you 10+ years.

I started on a short little walmart longboard, then "upgraded" to my current Amazon longboard. I've been picking up new components for it piece by piece, and modified the deck shape a bit to fit what I wanted. I've been having a blast on it so far, and once it breaks, I'm planning to get a good bare deck and slap my nice new components on it. As a board to learn the basics on, it was great! I don't have loads of money to throw around, and actually had to save a little to get the $80 that my current board cost. I knew when I bought it that it was temporary, and the low price gave me confidence to try some things I wouldn't dare do on an expensive board. If it breaks, I'm not really out all that much. All this to say, yea. I agree that you should probably spend the extra on a good board out the gate, but if you know exactly what you're getting into and just want to get out, the cheap boards aren't the end of the world.

As someone who has also bought his original board through amazon I can agree with everything but won't complain about my setup. I bought a drop through drop deck complete and originally thought it was trash. I finally realized everything was over tightened and it turned out to be "okay" at best but still rideable. I do enjoy how it came with a blank deck on the bottom so i could plaster that bad boy with stickers and my dad's fire department logo sticker is my centerpiece. Someday i might upgrade trucks bearings and wheels but in the meantime its been a solid, slower learner board for some of my friends and my niece and nephew. Don't have to worry about anyone getting too out of control and falling in traffic! As always, love the content and mad respect for looking at some budget boards!

Uses ARE to cruise around, but also to cruise with your friends who like longboarding. It's certainly a personal interest thing, I started longboarding only a month ago and I find every excuse I can to grab one and head out somewhere. A lot of your early weeks will be cruising around just to learn the feel of it, but later on you might head out to hang with friends or quickly run down to the local store to grab something. Ultimately it's just like level 2 walking. More practical than inline, or cycling, faster and way more fun and interesting than walking!

Hey there! I just wanted to say that I personally have not had a problem with my Retrospec board yet and I ride it all the time, I feel that most of the bad claims made were more towards the other board shown in the video. I have had my Retrospec Zed longboard (the exact same pintail board shown in this video just with a different color) for over 5 months now and have only had a good experience with it. I have not had any quality issues like cracks or a warped deck and I don't think that specific board is as bad as its made out to be. The company that makes it seems to be pretty trustworthy from my research and in this video it does not do the best job of looking into it. Most of the bad claims show the other board which does seem considerably worse. I personally love using that Retrospec board and I think it deserves a more in depth review on why it specifically is portrayed to be as bad as that drop-through longboard. I am not saying that your wrong, but I just think that its not on the same level as that other board at all. Thanks!

Honestly great for beginners, I have friends that had their own shop for awhile and made their own skateboards and they said the cheaper boards weren't bad at all as long as you weren't doing something extreme on them. Im confused how so many have cracked because I'm a heavier person doing different dances and Ollie's on mine without any problem. I think youtubers that are famous for skating are gonna dislike but random people trying to have fun won't have a problem. I also rollerskate and have had so many videos saying that 500+ dollar skates are the only good ones, when everyone I know that it's a pro goes on just fine with 150 dollar ones.

When i first got into cruising/ longboarding i was so eager to start and i made the mistake of buying one of those retrospec boards. It really sucks and i never ride it. I couldnt return it ofc cause i already rode on it. After doing actual research and not rushing it like i did the first time, i saved up enough money again and got myself a Landyachtz board and i literally couldnt be happier. I love it so much!!

I bought the junli longboard it was only 65 dollars, great price. I like the board, however I noticed the cruise for it didn’t last long. The beatings were crap. I replaced them for 36 dollars. This helped drastically. Now it cruises a lot better. I am returning to long boarding, and I’m happy with this board, and one day I will be improving the board later on, but someday down the line I’ll probably get a more effective board, but this is great for starting off.

I have that exact same Retrospect board, color and everything... oof. didn't think I would be that into long boarding so I bought the cheapest one and I fell in love with it so fast! Looking to get a nice real longboard (to cruise around campus and downhill a bit) what would you recommend?

Is Yocaher a decent brand on Amazon? I'm a novice who bought a pintail Yocaher board, but the wheels had no branding and the deck graphics was some kinda cheap printed wrap that's flaking off in places. IDK if the trucks are any good. It's now sitting in the garage collecting dust...

I can confirm this video. I street skated years ago and wanted to get back to doing something. I bought the exact same Retrospec longboard in this video. The deck itself although strangely shaped is the only good part of the setup. The wheels and bearings were terrible, after 2 months the kingpin snapped in half while I was riding and I sprained my ankle. I’ve nearly replaced everything on the board, trucks, wheels, bearings when I should have spent a little more and bought a well known longboard brand.

Thoughts on buying a longboard from Zumiez? (Mercer, Santa Cruz, etc). Are they worth paying twice the price of a Retrospec? Ehler? Or is it just a “fashion brand” board with no additional quality?

I'm really new to longboarding, I've only been doing it for a few weeks and my first board was from Amazon. I can kinda notice some of the things being talked about in the video like the resistance in the wheels and bearings (although I don't know if they're really resisting or that's just how they are). Either way, I really like longboarding and I want to keep doing it, but I also don't have the biggest wallet. If I can get my hands on an affordable cruiser longboard that's from a company with a good or great reputation, that would be fantastic!

I lucked out and got the Volador drop through deck for $60 before the prices went nuts. At the $60 price point it wasn’t bad. Here were the issues I saw. Grip tape started fraying near the edges. Wheels chipped real easily. Bearings were ok. Much quieter than Spitfire cheap shots. Trucks I had no issue. I like the idea of getting a used quality longboard

So in Tilly's there's a longboard that has good reviews but its retrospect and its 70 bucks. I am a beginner and I wanted to know if just amazon had just the problem or the longboard itself was bad. I also watched some reviews on KZbin of the longboard and they say that its a little scratched up but its not bad for a beginner. Do you recommend buying that retrospect board or buying a mid tier brand. Also wanted to know if goldcoast was a decent brand or any other brands you would recommend that are mid tier budget and has a decent board

The best deck I've ever owned personally was a gem I found on amazon. It was just a deck with an unsealed paint and no grip tape. I did the grip tape and sealed it myself. The thing lasted me for years as I put it through the ringer. I was at around 280 pounds when I owned this deck, and had about 20 pounds of papers and binders in my backpack for school. I am so sad I can't find it anymore.. I'm now around 350 pounds and want to get back into riding, but can't find a board I think will be thick enough to support me like my old one..

Good info. So I picked up a branded longboard recently which was barely used but as I'm using it, I notice it's warping. I'm super new to longboarding. The warp itself doesn't bother me, other than the longboard looks all durpy. How can I unwarp it or should I just continue riding it like that? Any help would be appreciated 😁🤙🏼
